Definitely. Goodnight, Lucy.
Goodnight, Isaac.
Of course. I should be back before long. [He hugs her, taking a moment to focus on a good thing before he deals with a bad thing.]
Thank you so much. I needed this.
Of course. Â Maybe...maybe we can hang out again later, too. Â Or tomorrow, after school.
I donât know. Iâm going to head over. Iâll call you later, okay?
O-okay.
Be safe, Isaac. Â A-and...if you guys need anything, and you want me to come later, or anything like that, I am here.
I love you, too. [He squeezes her hand again. His phone chimes on his pillow, and he reaches over to pick it up. He reads the text from Jackson, easily decoding it. Something is wrong. Not bad guy levels of wrong, but⊠personal levels. He feels it, in the aching in his heart and the sickness in his stomach.] I think somethingâs wrong with Jackson.Â
[Lucy feels it, too. Â Her heart sinks.] Â Was that him? Â Did something happen?
I know that. I used to forget it, but now I donât. Itâs whatâs keeping me from losing my mind, honestly. The first time I lost Camden, I didnât have anything.
Now I have this. You and the pack.
[Lucy leans in against Isaac again.] Â Always. Â You always, always, always have us. Â We love you so much, Isaac.
Nothing. I mean â thereâs nothing you need to do. Iâm happy with this.
This is enough for me.
You always have this. Â You always have be, no matter what.
I know you will, Lu. And I will be okay, I promise.
Thank you for being here.
Of course, Isaac. Â I will always be here for you.
What do you need? Â What can I do?
Y-yeah. Maybe. I just, um⊠[He doesnât know how to explain what he feels. He doesnât know how to go through this again. The first time, he went through it alone, and it was dark, and⊠he canât deal with things the same way he did then. Missing school and letting himself rot in his dadâs hatred only worked when no one care that he disappeared and his dad was alive. Now, he has a pack, and his dad is dead, and so is Camden. So is Camden.] I need to let it go.
[It breaks Lucyâs heard to see Isaac suffering like this, to feel his pain like this.] Â Iâm here for you, no matter what you need. Â Iâll do anything to help you, Isaac. Â Anything in the world. Â I promise, Iâll help you get through this. Â Iâll do anything you need me to do. Â
[Isaac squeezes her hand slightly, taking comfort in her presence. He misses his brother so much, it hurts in a way that he hasnât in over a year. He hasnât felt this sad, his lonely, since Derek found him, but now it wonât go away. Itâs something only Lucy understands, and heâs glad that sheâs here right now.]
No. Heâs dead. I know he is.
...Maybe...maybe they just...look a lot alike. Â It was dark, and...th-that could have happened to anyone. Â [Lucy moves closer to Isaac, leaning her head against his shoulder. Â The hurt that he must have felt, the hope, and then the crushing agony when it turned out not to be Camden... Itâs all so heartbreaking. Â Lucy wishes there was a way she could help, a way she could take this pain away. Â But all she can do now is be here for Isaac, and she isnât planning on going anywhere, unless he wants her to.]
[Isaac actually hasnât spoken about Camden at all. He feels so stupid for thinking that Officer Parrish was his brother, so heâs been grieving all over again.]
I was stupid. For thinking I saw him. HeâsâŠ. heâs dead, and I thought⊠I donât know. Iâm sorry.
I donât think it was stupid at all, Isaac. Â [Lucy crosses the room and sits down next to him.] ...A-after Cole...after...um...well, I...I used to think I saw her places all the time, still, too. Â Just...out of the corner of my eye, or on the bus, or in line at the store. Â And Iâd always think...I just mean, well, I donât think itâs stupid at all. Â And you donât have anything at all to be sorry for, Isaac. Â [Lucy takes his hand, looking down at where their fingers interlock.]
...Could it...is there any way it...it was him?
Hey, Lu.
Whatâs going on?
Hi. Â [Lucy steps into the room.] Â I just...w-well, we havenât really gotten to talk since...what happened the other night, in the woods, with, um...Camden, and...I noticed you were already drunk before the party this weekend, and I...I just wanted to see...how you are. Â What I can do to help.
I know this is...oh, Isaac, this is just all so much, and I know it must be so hard, and Iâm...I am here for you, and Iâll do anything I can to help you.
Text â Erica
Erica: Heads up. There's a random female wolf named Monty in town. No idea if she's sketchy or not, so if I disappear, you know why.
Lucy: What? Erica, are you okay?!
[Lucy knocks lightly on Isaacâs door.] Â Isaac?
Text â Isaac
Isaac: I am, yeah. Do you need me?
Lucy: I was hoping we could maybe talk. Can I come by your room?
Text â Isaac
Lucy: Hi, Isaac! Are you at the loft?
Oh, no! My parents would kill me if I came home drunk. [Sheâs glad to not be the only one not drinking tonight. Itâd be fine, but still sort of awkward. She prefers to stay sober, and get home safe.]
Ooh, I understand! Â I mean, well, I live with Derek, and I do not think he would be mad at me or anything, but...I donât want to drink, anyway, so it is okay! Â But we can have fun with just soda, too!
[Kira, despite now being used to theâŠ. pack, is still not a party animal. She has no idea what to do, or where to stand, which leads to awkward standing around. She finally decides to sit on the couch, at least, and makes her way over to it. She sees Lucy sitting there, and gives her a smile as she sits next to her.] Hey. Not your scene, either?
Hi, Kira! Â [Lucy brightens up when Kira comes to sit next to her. Â She shrugs a little bit, still smiling.] Â Well, I love to be around my friends! Â But I am not really a big partier, and I donât drink. Â Well, I never have, and...before I met everyone, I had never been to a party before, or anything like that! Â But the soda is good! Â You arenât drinking, either? Â [There is a hopeful tone to Lucyâs voice; sheâs excited by the prospect of just getting to hang out and chat with Kira.]
