Hey there, fanfiction writer here. I'm wanting to write a fic about our boys, but I'm only confident in writing Prompto. Any tips for writing Noctis?

Okay, let me take one moment to process the fact that someone is asking me for tips on writing Noctis- insert loud yodeling here- okay, I’m done. As for tips, I’m not sure if you want my specific way with writing him, or a universal view- many people view my Noctis as canonically incorrect, but that’s not how I see it. I’ll give you some personal tips, and things that help me get in character.

Noctis is a very complex character, one of the most important things I like to note about his personality is that he is very shy. He enjoys people viewing him as someone who can get a job done, so he acts very outgoing and tough, but on the inside, he’s got a few issues with communication in general. He talks in a way that can be taken as cold, but it’s in all honesty the fact that he does not have the proper words to say, this is mostly seen around people who are new to him, but sometimes he stutters around his friends too, a good example of this is talking to Iris Amicitia, perhaps going back on the cut-scenes in the game where the two shared a conversation would be of help to you in writing dialogue for Noctis.

On top of all this, he has a lot of trouble with actually letting people know how he’s feeling, he can be distant and act as if everything is fine, even when he is falling apart or in emotional distress. While it isn’t that he doesn’t trust the people who are truly close to him, it’s mostly his fear of disappointing those who rely on and/or believe in him. That’s another thing, Noctis has a very big fear of letting people down, along with his fear of abandonment. He doesn’t like getting close to people, even his friends- ( but through the game of FFXV we do see how he grows closer to them, and how he allows his guard to be let down around them. ).

While Noctis is a very kind person, he can appear to be either rude or standoffish, or both, just because of the anxiety he holds. So, if you were writing him, I wouldn’t write him as someone to completely allow another person to know everything about what’s going on, unless it’s a emotional bonding thing, or a complete breakdown- as we all know Noctis is still human, and cannot hold everything inside forever.

I think I’ve rambled on enough, but if you have anymore questions, feel free to ask! I really, really hope this helped in any sort of way. Also, this is simply my way of portraying Noctis, while I do view it as canon, other people might disagree, do keep that in mind!

Noctis was not one to share his feelings— this was common, but despite this the words he spoke seemed to spill from his mouth. Perhaps, because of years of hiding it, he was finally so tired that the truth would come out. A flinch came at the mention of demons, as the demons were himself. ❝ If I were to tell you— that the only demon that has been telling me these things, was the one inside— would you discontinue to the issue as nothing? ❞ such harsh words from him in this moment, seemed the demon of his anxiety had finally gotten the best of him. He chewed on his bottom lip- nervous habit, one of many. ❝ I'm the only one to blame. But that's nothing new, and nothing I don’t deserve. ❞
