I saw someone online complain that Scout gets treated like shit in fanfics all the time so here's a fluff fic of him having a panic attack and being comforted by Medic.
Scout quietly stood in the respawn room. Anxiously watching most of his teammates run out and onto the battlefield. All but one.
Medic had noticed his teammate's odd behavior brewing. Scout's were known to be outgoing chatter boxes. Not this one. He was trembling in fear. Scout abruptly dropped his scattergun onto the tile floor. Clutching at his chest. Medic acted quickly. Taking his gear off and setting his medigun onto a bench nearby. Rushing over to the young man's side. It was this rookie Scout's first time on the battlefield.
"What's wrong? Are you okay?" Medic asked. Placing two fingers on the young man's neck, feeling his rapid pulse.
"I-it's my first day! And I'm already screwin' up!" Scout frantically shouted. Medic frowned at the young man's self deprecating demeanor. He guided Scout over towards the wooden bench nearby. Sitting down beside him.
"Shhh. You're doing fine. Please just take some deep breaths." Medic advised. Gently patting his teammate's back. Scout did the exact opposite. Instead, he began loudly sobbing. Covering his face with both hands. Medic quickly pulled the man into a warm embrace. Scout's eyes widened in shock. He sniffled and nuzzled up into the crook of Medic’s neck. Shyly wrapping his arms around his teammate. Medic sighed and began gently petting his head. For this touch starved Scout, such a small gesture felt immensely calming. Eventually, Scout's heart rate began to slow down. After a few minutes of crying, he took the doctor's advice and began breathing in a few deep breaths. Using his hand bandages as tissue to wipe away his tears and to blow his nose.
"We don't have to go out there you know." Medic mentioned.
"Ya. Don't worry about it." Medic shrugged. Scout sighed in relief. He quickly took his hat off, setting it beside them.
"Please do that again." Scout begged.
"Pat my head." Scout insisted. Medic blinked.
"Whatever makes you feel better." Medic shrugged. The doctor continued gently petting his head. As if he were a pet dog. Scout let out another sigh of relief. Such a simple gesture made him feel safe and at peace. Medic remained silent, pulling him in for another hug. Scout eagerly nuzzled in yet again.
"Thanks for stayin’ with me." Scout muttered. Medic grinned and pat his head once more.
"Trust me, out of everyone here, your class is the easiest to calm down." Medic mentioned. Scout rose an eyebrow. Pulling away from their hug.
"Ya. You scout's are all the same. You just need a hug and you're good to go. Ugh, don't get me started on trying to calm down a Soldier." Medic replied. Scout snickered.
“Here, let me change these for you.” Medic said. Lightly tearing away at the Scout’s messy hand bandages. He tossed them onto the floor and grabbed a fresh roll of bandages beside them. Gently wrapping up each of his hands. Scout’s cheeks flushed bright red. He shyly glanced over at Medic’s hands, then up to his hair. Brunettes with glasses had always been one of his many weaknesses.
