an ode to summer
Chappell Roan not playing about her boundaries and personal safety and putting her foot down and yelling "shut the fuck up" at rude paparazzi during the VMAs red carpet is healing something in me truly. That is a lesbian woman refusing to act all grateful and bashful at being allowed space, she is owning the space for which she has worked over a decade and assertively setting her boundaries and giving zero fucks about whose ego she bruises on the way because only people who take advantage of you take offense when you set boundaries and I am enjoying every second of it

I did so much this summer I feel like myself again
Closing the door to August
Mourning the vanishing heat and mislaid sun I hold on for dear life,
to the promise of summers supple love. Sunburns still peeling across my back.
I'll let September come. Let it trace me in its silhouette. Still young enough that the cooling water does not gash its way to my heart. Anticipating the hardiness of winter yet to come.
Diner Blues
Your caffeine free love is leaving me weary/
Fill my cup with your burnt bitter grounds/let me pick them from my teeth and savor their aftertaste into the late afternoon
Promise me eggs drenched in hot sauce/bacon fried crispy/pancakes soaked in your syrup

The Poet Dreams of the Mountain
by Mary Oliver
Sometimes I grow weary of the days, with all their fits and starts. I want to climb some old gray mountain, slowly, taking the rest of my lifetime to do it, resting often, sleeping under the pines or, above them, on the unclothed rocks. I want to see how many stars are still in the sky that we have smothered for years now, a century at least. I want to look back at everything, forgiving it all, and peaceful, knowing the last thing there is to know. All that urgency! Not what the earth is about! How silent the trees, their poetry being of themselves only. I want to take slow steps, and think appropriate thoughts. In ten thousand years, maybe, a piece of the mountain will fall.
baking in that last bit of August sun☀️
August lovers
chapped lips and cheeks kissed/ dipped toes in warm water/ painted fingers
coffee, water, iced/ back draped in summers heat
hold me on the edge, (of the water) keep me there for your entertainment/ full belly/ no concern
the only thing i crave, is everything i already have
Love in August
by Jane Hirshfield
White moths against the screen in August darkness.
Some clamor in envy.
Some spread large as two hands of a thief
who wants to put back in your cupboard the long-taken silver.
