Practice makes perfect....

This winter just gone I spent a good deal of it in the mountains of Europe photographing Para Alpine Skiing, Para Snowboarding and Para Nordic / Biathlon. My work took me from far North in Finland to considerably further South in the mountains of France, Italy, Slovenia and Spain (hmm I ought to post something more on this!...coming soon. :-) ) During my travels I found myself not just shooting sports action but also posed portraits for later use by the media. Whilst I was happy with the results I felt that I could do a lot more and so I’ve embarked on a bit of professional development by working on my portraiture....

#BleuParalympic...the book

Returning home from my Christmas break my neighbour popped around with a very heavy looking box. Even though I knew what was inside, it still felt like Christmas again, as I had been waiting for the contents for a little while now! All excited, I asked my neighbour to stick around as this was important. I found a knife and cut through the tape to get at what was in the parcel. Out came a bundle of books. Not any old books, but ‘the’ book of France Paralympique’s PyeongChang 2018 Winter Paralympic Games.

Quickly I thumbed through the book with my [patient] neighbour showing him the photos that Gregory Picout and I had taken during the Games. What a beautiful publication. Hat’s off to the production team! I couldn’t let my neighbour leave empty handed and so gave him the copy we’d scanned through, as a thank you, and wished him a happy new year! www.lucpercivalphotography.com

One last word....

As I mentioned in my last post I have just returned from Vuokatti in Finland where I was working for the German Para Nordic and Biathlon team at the World Para Nordic and Biathlon 2018 World Cup.

First evening there, having just arrived, I turned their meeting room into a make-shift studio and we got all the headshots taken....

The following day I covered the Middle Distance Biathlon under dim grey skies....

All too quickly day three arrived and I was photographing the Cross Country Sprint event.....

And then, before you knew it the last day had arrived (at least for me) and I was handling special requests in between shooting behind the scenes during training!

And that was my first visit to Finland done and dusted! What a beautiful wild country. I think I will have to return to do some ski-touring. All the remains for me to say is a big thank you to everyone on the German team for making me feel so welcome amongst you. It was such a pleasure working with you! It’s almost Christmas!

I’ve not posted on here for quite a while now! It’s not like I haven’t been busy shooting sports, either...

There were the INAS Summer Games in Paris (which included the tennis and the cycling World Championships)....

And then there were World Para Athletics European Championships in Berlin with Paralympics Ireland......

And then I was back on the Island of Spetses (feels like my second home) in Greece for the Spetses Minimarathon.....

Not forgetting the start of the Road To Tokyo with a gathering of all the sports directors, for Paralympics France, just down the road from me at the legendary circuit de la Sarthe - the 24hrs of Le Mans - for two days of seminars and an evening of crazy go-kart racing! (there’s a few photos above as well as the ones below...)

And before I go I will make another post in a short while as I have just returned from the World Para Nordic and Biathlon World Cup in Vuokatti, but more in another post later this evening.... So it just remains for me to thank everyone who made 2018 the most incredible year for me. You’ve kept me busy working in a world of Para Sports and Adaptive sports that I absolutely love. Thankyou to all my friends and colleagues all over the world! And thankyou to everyone who patiently follows this blog. The adventure resumes after the Christmas break and will start with lots and lots of snow and World Para Alpine skiing in Croatia, Slovenia and Italy...
