Red Discus (Symphysodon discus), family Cichlidae, order Cichliformes, found in blackwater habitats in the Amazon Basin of South America

May grow to a svl (snout vent length) of up to 20 cm.

Popular in the aquarium trade.

The young (called fry) feed on a mucous secretion from the parents skin, sometime called "Discus Milk".
