Let’s remember how Lucy is the HERO of the Grand Magic Games arc. It's because of her everyone made out alive and the ten thousand dragons didn't destroy their future.

If future Lucy didn't came back from the future, Natsu, Lucy and the others would have taken the wrong path and ended up in front off Eclipse were they can't use their power, then would be caught and couldn't stop Rogue.

Lucy is the one who closed the gates with the help of Yukino. Because of her, only seven dragons made it instead of ten thousand. She is the one who didn't stupidly believe what future Rogue said and made her own research and opinion about Eclipse.

Future Lucy' sacrifice is the reason why Lucy was able to made it alive and close the door. If they both died, the princess would have open the gates and no one would have been able to closed it.

Of course it's Natsu who defeated future Rogue and broke the gates. But without the help of future and present Lucy, he wouldn't be able to do that. Remember, in the other future, he literally died.

I always see people talking about how she was robbed because the won none of her fights and never about how she is the one who saved everyone ass
