“As smooth as I’m sure your butt is,” Lucy punctuated her sentence with an over the top wink. “I’m sure that spells it out for you. I’m not really known for charming the pants off of girls, more like finding the one’s with a sense of humor and massaging their funny bone. Sounds sensual as fuck.”
“Oh, she sounds super.” Tierney nodded, she had a love/hate relationship with politics truth be told, “Likewise. I’ve always wanted to make a twitter like ‘shit straight girls say/do’ and that would 100% go on it.”
“She’s a top lady.” Lucy cooed sarcastically. She raised an eyebrow at Tierney. “Might wanna check your gaydar there. Either I’m participating in the enemies hobbies or you need to go get that shit repaired.”
“Oh no, you know my first and last, should I be worried about why you said it like that?” She said, depending on who you asked her dad had a certain rep, “Either way, yeah that’s me.” Tierney smiled back, “Damn, that seems like a lot to live up to, I mean we just met. But um, how many times have you rode a bike topless, because suddenly I feel like I’m missing out on a really good idea.”
“No, you’re good. My mom’s into all of that local governance stuff and I only tune in for bits and pieces of her rambling.” Lucy shot the girl a smile. “Well, it’s been a pleasure to meet you, Tierney Mayer.” She sat back and nodded. “You better believe it home slice, time to step up. Twice, once summer with a friend Rosie and the other was around graduation... Also with Rosie. It’s a great time if you ignore the police officers and cat calls.”
“Yeah I’ll pass that idea over to my dad can get on that.” Tierney raised an eyebrow, “Sorry to disappoint. Hopefully we can still be friends.”She playfully countered her hands playing with the pencil she’d been using to sketch before she was joined by the blonde, “Which one do you think I’ll be by the end of the day? A horrible memory or a fun summer one?”
“Wait... Tierney, Mayer?” She asked, the only two thing’s she heard from her mother were concerns about Lucy’s social behavior and local hierarchy bullshit, so the name had been thrown around once or twice. “Yeah, get him onto it stat.” A small smile formed on Lucy’s face. “I was hoping you’d be a fun summer memory, equivalent to bike riding topless and getting high by the lake just as the sun sets.”
“I must be a better actress than I thought then, I did take drama for a semester, so score. Oh yeah, we’re home of the bougiest and the whitest.” She giggled, Lucy had a pretty good vibe about her, she didn’t mind the out there shit she said either, the lack of filter was actually kind of cool. “Mmm, no that’s not a fetish of mine, but yeah still better than scat, scat isn’t either actually.” Tierney nodded, a comedian, okay that I can 100% see. So you must be back for the summer I’m assuming?”
“That should be on a billboard just as you drive into Rosewood. Someone needs to get onto that,” Lucy sighed and shook her head. “And here I thought I might have found someone to piss on my face in a sexually explicit manner. Sometime’s things just don’t work out how you want ‘em to, huh?” Lucy nodded. “This place is like a sentimental magnet this time of year. It’s like all of the horrible memories just turn into fun summer memories and I end up back here.”
“Well your mother sounds smart.” Tierney took another fry, taking her time chewing and swallowing just to let Lucy sweat it out before she dissolved into laughter, “Yes, sarcasm. I’m not actually some bougie white girl.” Tierney gave her a nod of thanks, “It’s alright, and I guess I’m not horrible at it, but I don’t get the same… thing from doing this than I do with a canvas and water colors in front of me. Well for now the skill is a useful commodity, considering he age bracket, but afterwards I don’t know, maybe acting or something, you seem pretty animated.”
Lucy’s frown subsided and she leaned back slightly, sipping on her drink. Maybe her judgment wasn’t so good, she’d thought the last couple of months had made sharper, but maybe not. And then there was relief, it could be hard around Rosewood to sit down and have a normal conversation. “Thank god, you had me fooled for more than a second. This is like, the capital of bougie white girls.” She laughed and took a few more fries. “The same ‘thing’? Is this a fetish thing? Because if so, it’s definitely not the worst one you could have, being artsy is one of the more attractive hobbies. It definitely trumps being into scat.” She laughed and shrugged. “I mean, it’s been doing me well in the real world. I moved to New York from here a couple of months back to try and get into the whole comedy biz. A well thought out fart joke definitely goes a long way.”
Nicole’s eyes narrowed whilst she searched for the compliment in Lucy’s words. “So… like… sophisticated, right?” She pondered slowly, brow arched. “Sure, I’ll take that. You gotta’ be OJ or apple juice or something universally liked. Everyone seems to get along with your weird ass.” She gasped, initially offended, before her shoulders slumped and she relented, “alright, so maybe it’s not the nicest of the juices. And no, the hatchet remains six feet deep. Doesn’t mean a girl can’t be petty and bring it up once in awhile, right? Isn’t that how this friendship thing works?”
Lucy laughed. “Yeah, and that you pair really well with vodka. Which is a known fact.” She pointed out and leaned against Nicole’s shoulder. “It’s just because I’m beautiful, gifted and humble. What’s not to love?” Lucy raised her head, like a frightened puppy just as Nicole let out a loud gasp. “I mean, not really. But I wouldn’t be your friend if you weren’t a unique one.”
Tierney chortled at Lucy’s reply, she was…different, and kept it up because why not? “I hear that it’s not at all as rewarding as the middle class would like you to think, like propaganda, you know?” She said with a straight face, waiting to see if the girl would take her seriously considering she didn’t know Tierney from Eve, though Lucy still did look vaguely familiar, but she chopped it up to the girl having one of those faces. “As in C. Montgomery? Very nice.” Tierney guffawed at her newly minted nickname, “That makes me sound shady, plus it would be more accurate to call me painty girl, this isn’t my usual medium. But Tierney is a lot easier, less words, more time to eat fries.” She said and picked up another, munching on the tip.
“Oh god, you sound like my mother. I’ve never hoped for sarcasm so hard in my life.” Lucy laughed, though her eyebrows were still knotted in a skeptical frown. “So, sarcasm, right?” She had to ask, though even if it wasn’t Lucy wasn’t one to neglect the vapid and self-righteous. She nodded and curled her fingers together. “Don’t make me say it.” Lucy looked the sketch over. “Could’ve fooled me, painty girl aka Tierney. That’s some cool shit.” She smiled. “I wish I had more refined skills, mine are like... Telling fart jokes and doing beer bongs.”
“Thanks. Maybe I’ll manage to do something productive now, who knows.”
“Don’t lie to yourself, procrastination can be a vengeful bitch.”
“Hey, you brought fries, that’s thank you enough, you earned that chair.” She said, and was amused by the stranger’s comment. “Damn, you sound like my kind of girl.” She said and took another fry, putting her pencil and sketchpad down. “So do I get a name or does french fry girl suit you alright.”
“I’m so used to being entitled, it almost feels like... earning things might be fulfilling-” she mused, gazing in the distance before quickly snapping out of her fake and shoving a fry in her mouth. “Nah, fuck that.” She shrugged. “French fry girl works, but I also go by Lucy Burns. What about you sketchy girl?”
Tierney looked up from her sketch book and at the basket of fries first, then the girl who put them there, “It’s all yours.” Tierney said and leaned over, grabbing a fry and chewing on it, trying to figure out if she knew this girl, “Have we met before?”
“Thanks,” she shot the blonde a smile before popping a fry in her mouth. “Probably not,” she shrugged. “Just overheard you complaining about food which is favorite pass time of mine.”
I’m starving, but I’m not letting myself move until I finish this. I don’t even like sketching…
“Well, you’re in luck.” Lucy placed a fresh basket of chili cheese fries on the table. "My eyes are bigger than my stomach, I definitely won’t be able to finish these on my own.” She pulled out a chair. "Do you mind?"
Vienna grinned right back, though more subtle. “Way too much. There’s no point in even watching now.”
“I just saved you a solid day and a half, you’re welcome.”
We’ve all been there.
Nicole made a face, but accepted the juice nonetheless. “Wheatgrass is like… the me of juices, Burns. It’s the shit. It contains all vitamins known to man, so get with it already.” She leaned forward and placed a greetings peck on Lucy’s cheek, laughing despite herself when she pulled away. “Okay, I maintain that Jules started all of it. You don’t just compete for a bitch’s crown and expect her to take it laying down.”
“But here’s the thing if you were a juice you wouldn’t taste bitter, you’d be like a tomato juice. Like an acquired taste.” She pretending to be in deep thought as her friend kissed her. “Even if wheatgrass could give you mystical boob or booty growing abilities you would still have to admit it tastes like actual garbage,” Lucy pointed out matter of factly. “I thought and prayed that the hatchet was buried on this one... Or are you trying to dig it up and butcher her with it?”

Nicole: i don't know. if i get the face lift my mom was pitching to me maybe i won't be able to laugh. or it'll be terrifying if i do. and then what will you do, lucy burns, funniest human on the planet?
Nicole: will you still love me when i can no longer stretch my face muscles?
Nicole: that is outrageous. ridiculous. nonsense.
Nicole: ... i'm angry that this is true
Lucy: I'm sorry but it'd probably just make me laugh even harder, thusly making you laugh harder and the cycle will continue.
Lucy: But hey, you'll be funny for once. HAH
Lucy: If you could see my face right now, it's so god damn smug.
“Sure, beauty pageants can be totally objectifying and all. But no one ever talks about the scholarships and long lasting friendships, y’know? Some people just have no idea what it’s like to be a beauty queen.”
“Oh yeah, and all the backstage drama between you and Jules that kept Rosie and I entertained for hours. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.” Lucy laughed and placed the fresh pressed juice she’d just bought for Nicole in front of her. “I didn’t get wheatgrass because fuck that mess.”
