Really too bad that self-care has been so effectively kidnapped by like capitalism lmao bc it was formerly meant for people in empath-based and emotionally laborious roles to learn how to care for oneself in addition to professionally caring for others, not to mention to support (primarily women) those who are socialized to take on the burden of nurturing all members of their family before taking care of themselves.
It’s really sad bc women especially are raised and positioned in society to learn how to care for *literally* everybody BUT themselves — girls are taught to physically and emotionally care for family, friends, superiors and even strangers before themselves. Wanting to put themselves first & asking for help is even taught to be a “selfish” thing for women to do lol — and self-care was literally revolutionary in encouraging women to care for themselves in a way that could prevent long-term physical and emotional damage.
But like. Self-care has been so infected with consumerism and hijacked that it’s not only been totally rewritten as a “treat yourself” kind of numbing practice via goods but it’s also become a way for workplaces to put the blame back on the people in emotionally laborious and otherwise damaging job roles to take care of themselves – i.e. “learn to take care of yourself” and “be sure to take care of yourself” rather than restructuring the workplace to prevent harm. all of a sudden its OUR job to know how to self-care rather than for workplaces to better their work environments to prevent damage lol

you know the worst part ab people associating the middle east/south asia w pedophilia and sexual assault is the fact that most countries in both regions do actually have the highest sexual harassment rates in the world but are only discussed under racist/islamophobic terms. you literally can’t discuss that cairo has the highest sexual assault rate in the world at 99% or how 93% of women in pakistan experience some form of sexual violence or the growing rate of pedophilia in saudi arabia without people trying to tie that into islam. it doesn’t raise awareness or call for change it literally just gives people a chance to spread their “rape culture is ingrained in arab and brown societies” n their anti islam propoganda so maybe keep that same energy when talking about all the catholic priests who’ve been exposed as pedophiles :)
The fact that racist people really think physical attraction is void of social power structures is beyond me.
No, science and biology didn’t make you not attracted to an entire race of people. Racism did that.
It’s called a preference???
Did you not read the post? You can’t have a preference that excludes an entire race of people without being racist. Where do you think those preferences come from?
Especially preferences that exclude people of color. We learn what race/ethnicity/phenotype are attractive by the social power structures we are surrounded by.
There’s absolutely no possible way for a person to find every single black, or every single Asian or every single (Insert race) person unattractive because there is so much physical, phenotypical and internal diversity within each race.
So, as an example, folks who say “I’m not attracted to black people, that’s just my preference” what they are really saying is “I don’t want to be with black people because I have been taught to think they are ugly, undesirable, and I know nothing about how diverse black people are”
Tl;dr preferences are not void of social power structures :)
