In case anyone was wondering, here’s the logic behind how Merlin addresses Arthur:

When Merlin is talking to Arthur as his friend, he says: “Arthur”.

When Merlin is talking to Arthur and he’s So Totally Done With Arthur Being An Idiot, then he says: “Prat / Arse / Ass / Dollop Head / Cabbage Head”

When Merlin is in I Am Trying To Remember My Place And Be A Good Servant mode OR when he’s in Unspeakably Sassy mode, he says: “My lord”

When Merlin witnesses Arthur acting as a king, or when Arthur needs to be reminded that he is the king, he says: “Sire”
