The guy seemed like some kind of reporter. Or something. He was asking her too many questions too quickly. He was getting too close. She could feel her breath catching in her throat as she tried to keep herself from panicking. Her words came out in a stumbled mess until she saw Luka pushing through the crowd. She was thankful that he shoved the guy away from her. Still she could feel herself teetering on the edge of panic. She could feel that he was keeping a distance between them but she quickly broke it and crossed over to him. She wanted to be closer, at least she felt a little safer. “Can we just go please. To your place? There is too many people.”
His place. The thought of it set off alarm bells in his head. No way was Luka going to impress Cait with the shit box apartment he lived in ( it was pretty hard, after all, to get a decent lease with a criminal record like his ). But he pushed that aside for now, more concerned with getting her somewhere safe. “Yeah, sure,” he nodded after a moment. He hesitantly snaked his arm around her, tucking her into his side so she could hide her face against his chest. Not that he imagined many people would approach her with the look he gave anyone who glanced their way. “I’m only a few blocks away,” he assured her, already carrying them in that direction.
