âI donât know what you want me to do!â
âSometimes I wish I could take Nigel with me everywhere âcuz sheâs so cute and nice,â Luke sighed, âsheâs definitely my best friend after you.â
Luke nodded, âmaybe, yeah, thatâd be really cool, I might fall over if I try but then I could try again, right?â
âThatâs so sweet of you to say that,â Carver smiled.
âYouâre right, failing to do something isnât a bad thing itâs when you never try it again because youâre afraid, thatâs when youâve truly failed.â
"Am I your best friend, Carver?" He asked.
"I'll do it lots of times until I get it right next time we come and then if I can do it in my own normal skating too you can do skating too!"

âI donât know what you want me to do!â
âI think Nigel wouldâve really liked this even if you said she said no to coming,â Luke said as they went around the rink. We imagined Nigel fitting into one skate and gliding around, or having a tiny roller skate on each paw, and he laughed softly to himself.
âI canât imagine sheâd find this fun, I think the noise might scare her,â Carver said, âbut if they hold a petâs night we could give it a shotâŠâ
As they went around again a little girl about six, skated past them, and spun around as she did so, clearly showing off, âmaybe next time you could try that?â Carver gestured.
"Sometimes I wish I could take Nigel with me everywhere 'cuz she's so cute and nice," Luke sighed, "she's definitely my best friend after you."
Luke nodded, "maybe, yeah, that'd be really cool, I might fall over if I try but then I could try again, right?"

âI donât know what you want me to do!â
Kissing Luke on the forehead Carver pulled him in for a hug, holding him he noticed they had caught the eye of a mother with her kids, she smiled at them.
âReady to go back out on the rink?â he asked after a while.
Luke kissed Carverâs chin before stepping away a little and holding Carverâs hand again. He nodded, âsuper ready, are you ready?â
Capping the water bottle and slipping it into his pocket, Carver got to his feet, âyup, Iâm ready,â he lead them back to the rink where the show was just ending.
A lot of people had left during the exhibition, so they almost had the rink to themselves.
"I think Nigel would've really liked this even if you said he said no to coming," Luke said as they went around the rink. We imagined Nigel fitting into one skate and gliding around, or having a tiny roller skate on each paw, and he laughed softly to himself.

âI donât know what you want me to do!â
âAny hugs from you are good, sticky or smelly or sweet,â Carver spread his arms wide, âanywhere and any time.â
âI donât give smelly hugs ever,â he giggled before leaning into Caver, wrapping his arms around his waist as he hugged him. âAny hugs from you are good as well always warm hugs that make me happy.â

âI donât know what you want me to do!â
âMaybe for Christmas Iâll just get you lots and lots and lots of water and⊠A tie,â he said. Luke smiled once Carver had cleaned the mess from his face, âyou canât do that! Youâre so silly sometimes, Carver, itâs really funny.â
âCan I have a hug before we do more skating?â
âThat sounds nice, a tie  is a perfect compliment to lots and lots of waterâŠâ Carver laughed.
âLet me finish de-sticky-ing you first,â he took Lukeâs hands in his and removed the residue, âthen a hugâŠâ
âWater, a tie, your own bath duck and⊠Iâll get you a surprise,â he told him, âlots of Christmas presents though.ââ
Luke sighed, âare sticky hugs not good?â
âOnly if you promise itâs not a bitey duck,â Carver smiled.

âI donât know what you want me to do!â
Luke enjoyed the ice cream, the colourful scoop was weird tasting to say the least, very sweet without a particular flavour but he liked it a lot. And the triple chocolate, well, he loved chocolate.
Once heâd finished his ice cream and the cone he attempted to lick off all the ice cream that had ended up on his hands.
âThis is where the boring olâ water comes in handy,â Carver smiled, wetting some napkins with it, and wiping Lukeâs face to clear off the sticky mess, âitâs either that or stick you do the wall and let it crumble off you later.â

âI donât know what you want me to do!â
âYouâre the bestest person ever, Carver,â Luke smiled and pressed a sticky kiss to the older manâs cheek.
He shrugged, âmore ice cream for me,â he said before continuing to lick the ice cream. â
Not really sure heâd agree with that assessment, Carver just smiled, âIâm glad you think soâŠâ
He watched Luke eat the ice cream, trying not to imagine what that actually would taste like.Â
âI know so,â he told him.

âI donât know what you want me to do!â
âOoh, maybe,â he nodded, âdoes that mean my blood and stuff and insides taste sweet? What if someone gets really hungry and tries to eat me?â
âDo you wanna try some of my ice cream?â He asked, offering Carver the cone.
Again, Carver chose not to say the first thing that popped into his head, âI will protect you against that,â he said with a smile, âI wonât let anyone pour chocolate syrup over your head, stick you in a cone and put a cherry on top, I promise.â
âNo thanks,â Carver replied to the offer of the ice cream, âbut thanks.â

âI donât know what you want me to do!â
This was not the time to tell him, when he was little, that he actually did have a sweet flavor. He didnât think it was appropriate to mention how he knew that.
âMaybe youâre like those pretzels with candy filling, just salty on the outside?â

âI donât know what you want me to do!â
Luke licked the chocolate sauce off first to stop it from dripping down the ice cream and to the cone. âDoes sugar give you lots of energy?â He asked.
âTemporarily and for some people,â Carver said, âbut you seem to have a pretty amazing ability to eat a lot of it and stay unaffected.â
âMaybe thatâs why you are so sweet?â
âLots and lots of practice,â he grinned. Sugar and caffeine had never really had much of an effect on Luke, energy drinks and coffee never kept him more awake and he always felt more or less the same after having a lot of sugar.
âMaybe,â he nodded, âbut I donât taste sweet,â Luke licked his own hand, âtaste⊠A little little little bit salty?â

âI donât know what you want me to do!â
Carverâs teeth itched just thinking about, but he ordered what Luke wanted and grabbed a bottled water for himself, along with a large stack of napkins.
âGood thing we plan to skate more after this,â he laughed, handing over the cone, âor youâd be vibrating in place from all this sugar.â

âI donât know what you want me to do!â
âUhmm, I can have two scoops, right? Can I have one scoop of triple chocolate one andâŠâ He pointed to the brightly coloured one, âone of that? It looks pretty.â
Pretty was not what Carver thought of it, it looked very barf-tastic to him but he didnât have Lukeâs sweet tooth.
âIf thatâs what you want,..â the label said âSuperman Ice creamâ as Carver looked at it with a slight grimace of disgust, âOK, do you want a cone, a waffle cone, or a cup?â
âDefinitely what I want, it looks so yummyâŠâ He smiled, âa cone, please⊠Do you think I can have chocolate sauce on it too?â
Luke wondered what the superman ice cream would taste like and was looking forward to finding out.

âHow often do I need to tell you how amazing you look, before youâll believe me?â
Luke shrugged. âIâm not sure Iâll ever fully believe it no matter how times you tell me, Benjamin,â he sighed.
He shook his head, âno, Daddy, donât wanna go to sleep.â He wasnât tired, just sleepy, and Luke didnât want to go to sleep.
âBut youâre practically asleep alreadyâ he chuckles, kissing his jaw gently and holding him firmly against his chest. He loved seeing Luke like this, a perfect little in his arms.
âAm not,â he murmured, âI am wide awake.â Luke held back a yawn as he cuddled against Benjaminâs chest.
âOkay baby, we can just cuddle here like thisâ he whispers, laying down with his back against the back of the couch and Luke in his arms. He canât seem to stop kissing his neck and shoulders, wanting to lavish attention on his little boy.
âI love you so much Daddy,â he whispered, humming softly as he enjoyed every kiss to his skin. Luke closed his eyes, not falling asleep just yet but just resting his eyes.
âI love you too babyâ he whispers, âyouâre my baby boy and you always will be my baby boyâ he promises, playing with the hem of his shirt absently.
âAnd youâll always be my Daddy,â he smiled sleepily. âIf I fall asleep itâs by accident,â Luke murmured.
âI donât mind that, we can just lay here for long whileâ he murmurs, holding him close, kissing his cheek gently. He loved watching Luke sleep, he looked so peaceful.
Luke fell asleep after a few minutes, unable to resist the world of sleep, he wasn't sure why he was tired but he was and sleep was appealing. Especially sleeping whilst being held in Benjamin's arms.
