“I don’t know what you want me to do!”
“Sometimes I wish I could take Nigel with me everywhere ‘cuz she’s so cute and nice,” Luke sighed, “she’s definitely my best friend after you.”
Luke nodded, “maybe, yeah, that’d be really cool, I might fall over if I try but then I could try again, right?”
“That’s so sweet of you to say that,” Carver smiled.
“You’re right, failing to do something isn’t a bad thing it’s when you never try it again because you’re afraid, that’s when you’ve truly failed.”
"Am I your best friend, Carver?" He asked.
"I'll do it lots of times until I get it right next time we come and then if I can do it in my own normal skating too you can do skating too!"

“I don’t know what you want me to do!”
“I think Nigel would’ve really liked this even if you said she said no to coming,” Luke said as they went around the rink. We imagined Nigel fitting into one skate and gliding around, or having a tiny roller skate on each paw, and he laughed softly to himself.
“I can’t imagine she’d find this fun, I think the noise might scare her,” Carver said, “but if they hold a pet’s night we could give it a shot…”
As they went around again a little girl about six, skated past them, and spun around as she did so, clearly showing off, “maybe next time you could try that?” Carver gestured.

“I don’t know what you want me to do!”
Kissing Luke on the forehead Carver pulled him in for a hug, holding him he noticed they had caught the eye of a mother with her kids, she smiled at them.
“Ready to go back out on the rink?” he asked after a while.
Luke kissed Carver’s chin before stepping away a little and holding Carver’s hand again. He nodded, “super ready, are you ready?”
Capping the water bottle and slipping it into his pocket, Carver got to his feet, “yup, I’m ready,” he lead them back to the rink where the show was just ending.
A lot of people had left during the exhibition, so they almost had the rink to themselves.

“I don’t know what you want me to do!”
“Any hugs from you are good, sticky or smelly or sweet,” Carver spread his arms wide, “anywhere and any time.”
“I don’t give smelly hugs ever,” he giggled before leaning into Caver, wrapping his arms around his waist as he hugged him. “Any hugs from you are good as well always warm hugs that make me happy.”

“I don’t know what you want me to do!”
“Maybe for Christmas I’ll just get you lots and lots and lots of water and… A tie,” he said. Luke smiled once Carver had cleaned the mess from his face, “you can’t do that! You’re so silly sometimes, Carver, it’s really funny.”
“Can I have a hug before we do more skating?”
“That sounds nice, a tie is a perfect compliment to lots and lots of water…” Carver laughed.
“Let me finish de-sticky-ing you first,” he took Luke’s hands in his and removed the residue, “then a hug…”
“Water, a tie, your own bath duck and… I’ll get you a surprise,” he told him, “lots of Christmas presents though.”’
Luke sighed, “are sticky hugs not good?”
“Only if you promise it’s not a bitey duck,” Carver smiled.

“I don’t know what you want me to do!”
Luke enjoyed the ice cream, the colourful scoop was weird tasting to say the least, very sweet without a particular flavour but he liked it a lot. And the triple chocolate, well, he loved chocolate.
Once he’d finished his ice cream and the cone he attempted to lick off all the ice cream that had ended up on his hands.
“This is where the boring ol’ water comes in handy,” Carver smiled, wetting some napkins with it, and wiping Luke’s face to clear off the sticky mess, “it’s either that or stick you do the wall and let it crumble off you later.”

“I don’t know what you want me to do!”
“You’re the bestest person ever, Carver,” Luke smiled and pressed a sticky kiss to the older man’s cheek.
He shrugged, “more ice cream for me,” he said before continuing to lick the ice cream. “
Not really sure he’d agree with that assessment, Carver just smiled, “I’m glad you think so…”
He watched Luke eat the ice cream, trying not to imagine what that actually would taste like.
“I know so,” he told him.

“I don’t know what you want me to do!”
“Ooh, maybe,” he nodded, “does that mean my blood and stuff and insides taste sweet? What if someone gets really hungry and tries to eat me?”
“Do you wanna try some of my ice cream?” He asked, offering Carver the cone.
Again, Carver chose not to say the first thing that popped into his head, “I will protect you against that,” he said with a smile, “I won’t let anyone pour chocolate syrup over your head, stick you in a cone and put a cherry on top, I promise.”
“No thanks,” Carver replied to the offer of the ice cream, “but thanks.”

“I don’t know what you want me to do!”
This was not the time to tell him, when he was little, that he actually did have a sweet flavor. He didn’t think it was appropriate to mention how he knew that.
“Maybe you’re like those pretzels with candy filling, just salty on the outside?”

“I don’t know what you want me to do!”
Luke licked the chocolate sauce off first to stop it from dripping down the ice cream and to the cone. “Does sugar give you lots of energy?” He asked.
“Temporarily and for some people,” Carver said, “but you seem to have a pretty amazing ability to eat a lot of it and stay unaffected.”
“Maybe that’s why you are so sweet?”
“Lots and lots of practice,” he grinned. Sugar and caffeine had never really had much of an effect on Luke, energy drinks and coffee never kept him more awake and he always felt more or less the same after having a lot of sugar.
“Maybe,” he nodded, “but I don’t taste sweet,” Luke licked his own hand, “taste… A little little little bit salty?”

“I don’t know what you want me to do!”
Carver’s teeth itched just thinking about, but he ordered what Luke wanted and grabbed a bottled water for himself, along with a large stack of napkins.
“Good thing we plan to skate more after this,” he laughed, handing over the cone, “or you’d be vibrating in place from all this sugar.”

“I don’t know what you want me to do!”
“Uhmm, I can have two scoops, right? Can I have one scoop of triple chocolate one and…” He pointed to the brightly coloured one, “one of that? It looks pretty.”
Pretty was not what Carver thought of it, it looked very barf-tastic to him but he didn’t have Luke’s sweet tooth.
“If that’s what you want,..” the label said “Superman Ice cream” as Carver looked at it with a slight grimace of disgust, “OK, do you want a cone, a waffle cone, or a cup?”
“Definitely what I want, it looks so yummy…” He smiled, “a cone, please… Do you think I can have chocolate sauce on it too?”
Luke wondered what the superman ice cream would taste like and was looking forward to finding out.

“How often do I need to tell you how amazing you look, before you’ll believe me?”
Luke shrugged. “I’m not sure I’ll ever fully believe it no matter how times you tell me, Benjamin,” he sighed.
He shook his head, “no, Daddy, don’t wanna go to sleep.” He wasn’t tired, just sleepy, and Luke didn’t want to go to sleep.
“But you’re practically asleep already” he chuckles, kissing his jaw gently and holding him firmly against his chest. He loved seeing Luke like this, a perfect little in his arms.
“Am not,” he murmured, “I am wide awake.” Luke held back a yawn as he cuddled against Benjamin’s chest.
“Okay baby, we can just cuddle here like this” he whispers, laying down with his back against the back of the couch and Luke in his arms. He can’t seem to stop kissing his neck and shoulders, wanting to lavish attention on his little boy.
“I love you so much Daddy,” he whispered, humming softly as he enjoyed every kiss to his skin. Luke closed his eyes, not falling asleep just yet but just resting his eyes.
“I love you too baby” he whispers, “you’re my baby boy and you always will be my baby boy” he promises, playing with the hem of his shirt absently.
“And you’ll always be my Daddy,” he smiled sleepily. “If I fall asleep it’s by accident,” Luke murmured.
“I don’t mind that, we can just lay here for long while” he murmurs, holding him close, kissing his cheek gently. He loved watching Luke sleep, he looked so peaceful.
Luke fell asleep after a few minutes, unable to resist the world of sleep, he wasn't sure why he was tired but he was and sleep was appealing. Especially sleeping whilst being held in Benjamin's arms.
