“Fair enough. I was on my way to get my morning cup too.”
“Hmm, then lead the way.”
“Great. Thanks.” Bitsy said with a shrug and bent down to pick up the papers as well. She just thanked the universe that it was actually dry and the wind wasn’t bad enough to blow the sheets away.
“It must have been something pretty exciting or important to keep your attention that deeply.” She spoke as she worked, not really expecting an answer but still finding herself curious through her annoyance at the guy.
“Hah, I wish,” he said, trying to make light the little situation. In any other time, Luke would’ve asked what it was about her papers. There were a hell of a lot, he was starting to notice. But right now, he wasn’t really interested in anything.
“Uh yeah, I was asking if you were alright. You seemed kind of dazed.”
“You’d be dazed too if you didn’t have your morning coffee.”
“Uh yeah, I was asking if you were alright. You seemed kind of dazed.”
“You’d be dazed too if you didn’t have your morning coffee.”
“Oh, just for the past few minutes or so.” Bitsy said stonily as she stormed over.
“Next time you shove past someone who is carrying a heavy box full of papers, I suggest you’re more careful about knocking into them, and maybe offer to help them pick over the papers you caused them to drop across the street.” Bitsy gestured behind her to the records Sebastian had got for her that this ridiculous guy caused her to practically throw down onto the ground.
It was safe to say that Luke was a little bit, if not a lot, distracted. Just the last few days of dealing with pesky patients and the holidays coming about, he felt like he was more in his head than he was in reality. “Oh, wow, Christ, I’m sorry,” he muttered, feeling still a bit out still. He moved to the spot with the scattered papers and began picking them up.
It has both its pros and cons, in all honesty. There’s no such thing as being lonely when you have a big, festive family, and that can be a bother sometimes. There’s no privacy unless you live on your own, for instance. [Cece said, making a face and leaning back.] But the dinners, though, the food. It’s always amazing.
“Hmm, sounds amazing,” he said.
[By his answer Cecilia knew Luke didn’t really want to talk that, so she just smiled lightly at him.] I guess all families have their difficulties. Mine is just… Too Italian. [She chuckled.] Not being extremely close was never an option for me.
“Hmm, I wonder what that’s like,” he mused aloud, truly wondering what it was like to be close to someone in the family in more than just scheming or drinking.
[Cece glared at him when he talked about her hand and then rolled her eyes.] Yeah? What’s their issue?
“Oh, I don’t know, where do you want to begin?” he asked, although not really planning on divulging. “It’s just a ton of bat shit crazy, I guess.”
Ah, look at you! Liked holding my hand, was it? [Cecilia teased, blowing a playful kiss at him and then chuckling.] Come on, Christmas makes no sense without family! I’m glad I finally get to spend some time cuddling with my grandma and my baby cousins while I eat all the food I can.
“Yeah, I don’t think that’s it,” he said, shaking his head. “Your hand gets really clammy. --You’d really feel differently if you grew up with a family like mine, trust me.”
“Oh yeah? So you’re one of those pessimistic, depressing guys. Ugh, that’s like the worst way to live.”
“No, I’m just one of those guys who doesn’t give a crap. But hey, call it what you want.”
So you can pretend you’re my fiancé again? [Cece smirked, arching an eyebrow at him.] It’s Christmas, you sort of deserve at least a few hours of sleep away from the hospital.
“Not extremely opposed to that idea, to be honest,” he responded. “Oh, yeah, but it wouldn’t be Christmas if I didn’t spend it away from my family.”
“Then you should try to make it better, instead of worse with your bad mood. Because then people will be shit to you, like me, and make your month even worse,“ Kiki said, “Sorry if I annoyed you, but I just like pissing people off, especially if people make it easy for me.“
“Oh, yeah, I could, I should, but I’m not really that kind of guy,” he said, tilting his head slightly. “I’d rather just do this whole thing and not give a shit. --Yeah, it’s fine. That sounds like something I’d do too.”
She rolled her eyes. “I think it’s a boy thing. They are just far more rambunctious than I ever remember being as a kid.” Granted, by the time Fiona got home from her dance lessons she was usually too tired to be rambunctious.
“Well, if it is that kind of thing, then maybe you should start chasing after him?” he suggested, pointing in the direction the kid went. “I know I’d be god knows where if I had about this long to run away.”
It was how I met you, Luke, I will never forget that. It left an impression on me. [Cece said seriously, shrugging at him as if she couldn’t help it.] That’s no life, at least go home.
“Well, you can call me when those thirsty cougars start stalking you,” he said, remembering how persistent that woman was the other night. “Hmm, we’ll see, but I”m not making any promises.”
I believe you, seeing that you think it’s normal being chased by horny cougars. [She teased, nodding lightly.] That’s wise. What? [Cecilia rose her eyebrows, confused.] I’m just saying that I’ll still be at the store at that time because I live there. If I’m asleep I won’t even hear my phone. Don’t be so full of yourself, Luke.
"Okay, hey, that was just one woman, that one time,” he contested. “I’m kidding, I’m kidding. I’m going to stop now, I promise. Maybe by that time I’d be too tired to leave the hospital. I might just actually pass out in the waiting room or something.”

Don’t be a jackass or I’ll hook you up with my worst friend. [Cece threatened, taking her phone back and slipping it inside her pocket again.] Please don’t drink while you’re at work, that could be disastrous. Oh, I’ll probably be in bed by then, but I live above the store. Text me in case you feel like coming and we’ll see.
“Is that supposed to be a threat? Because I can assure you, I’ve already had worse,” he said, shaking his head. “Oh, yeah, I always reserve the drinking for after work, because that’s probably when I really need it. --Oh, wow, you’re really slick, aren’t you?”
