#NowPlaying Random Killers by Lucas Van Lenten As usual, I've tossed together a random assemblage of songs that, for whatever reason, happen to catch my fancy lately. Hope you dig it.

To all my friends (and foes): please 'follow' my artist page on Spotify. I need 250 followers before they will let me actually control the content on my page. I guess they're so busy writing checks for .17 cents that they don't have time to deal with artists of my modest stature. Thank you so much!
This is my probably my favorite Jonathan Wilson song: "Gentle Spirit", from the album by the same name, done solo acoustic here, The album version is much bigger in scope but there's always something special about an artist being able to take a song down to it's bones and keep the essence intact.
It's sort of an anti-war song: not from the perspective of righteous judgment or despair or cynicism - it's more of a reverential prayer to peace. The sentiment "gentle spirit find our hearts" is quite beautiful if you think about it. It leaps over the us/them paradigm of blame and puts us all on the hook for the state of the world.
There's something of a Native American current/grounding that runs through many of his songs - themes of nature and spirituality, which could be contrived and painful if forced as an artistic or aesthetic stance. But with Wilson it feels honest and I'm willing to let myself go there with him. Usually.
I have his newer album and it's really good too, It's got a very big/classic 70's California sound with lots of nods to the music of that era and time: CSNY being the most obvious. It's one of the best sonic recordings I've heard in long time and there's some righteous cosmic-guitar noodling on couple tunes, which I'm always down with,
