Arab mother attacked and 6 year old murdered in Chicago in Islamaphobic hate crime. It's 2002 all over again.
His name was Wadea al-Fayoum and he’d just turned six…
If anyone wants to donate to his family then here: https://www.launchgood.com/campaign/support_the_family_of_our_departed_angel_wadea_alfayoume#!/
Support Wadea's Janazah costs and provide essential medical care & housing assistance for his injured mother, while also creating a lasting l
Jews and Muslims all around the world are being targeted and attacked. This death is a tragedy.
just so y'all know, i emailed the council of american islamic affairs yesterday (they held a press conference about what happened) about wadea and asked about fundraisers for his funeral and his mother's medical bills, and this was the link they sent me, so this fundraiser is verified by an official organization. the funds will also be used, as stated in the fundraiser's description, to help his mother relocate as obviously it's not safe for her to be there anymore.
also very worth noting he was specifically palestinian-american. his parents are both palestinian; his mother immigrated from the west bank and his father from jordan. the man who murdered him was obsessed with the israeli-hamas war and attacked wadea and his mother because, according to the court filing, he "believed that [he and his wife] were in danger and that [wadea's mother] was going to call over her palestinian friends or family to harm them."

If you are unaware, there has been a shooting at a Colorado gay nightclub, Club Q, that has claimed the lives of five people and injured twenty-five. Fence Macabre’s roots are built upon acceptance and being a sanctuary for queer individuals. We feel it necessary to encourage you to donate to the victims and their families if you are financially able, even moreso with today being the Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day to remember those killed by transphobia.
The Healing Fund (click here) provides the safest way for people to donate and makes sure that the funds go to the victims and their families. The fund is a 501©(3) non-profit organization founded in 2018 by a group of victim advocates and community leaders. The organization partners with the Colorado Crisis Education Network, the Colorado Department of Public Safety and the Colorado Department of Transportation. Initial funding was provided by the Colorado Attorney General’s office upon the creation of the non-profit.
In addition, there are three more fundraisers to help the victims and their families.
1. Faith Haug of Good Judy Garage (click here), a small business in Denver, launched the fundraiser to raise funds for the families of the victims killed in the tragic shooting, as well as to help those injured with medical expenses.
2. Greg Resha of Colorado Springs (click here), a former employee of Club Q, launched the fundraiser to help the families of the victims, as well as those who were injured.
3. Classroom of Compassion (click here) is a nonprofit organization aimed at creating public mourning spaces for communities following a tragedy. The fundraiser is meant to help the Colorado Springs community heal. They will be traveling to Colorado Springs this week to create five public altars honoring the victims killed in the shooting.

this is my favorite reddit relationships post ❤️
I like that kids just have trans classmates now and don't give a shit. It's like having a classmate with red hair to them. Like "Mildly notable, anyway back to Fortnite"
In high school (3 years ago), I used they/them pronouns. The popular girls all used my pronouns. I was objectively weird and uncool, too, but they told me I was a good listener. They invited me to hang out or study with them. They offered me weed. We sat outside at prom and talked about the nature of high school and the future. I never felt unwelcome. I was never a joke.
The popular girls who invited me to hang out had boyfriends who had never used a pronoun in their lives. And suddenly there was peer pressure to be their best self and understand others. So these guys with big trucks and a spot on a sports team, they'd be offering me a ride to the bus stop and asking me questions about gender.
High school is getting better because high schoolers are getting better. Young people are awkward and stupid but many of them are still more empathetic and understanding than their parents.
The legacies people leave behind in you.
My handwriting is the same style as the teacher’s who I had when I was nine. I’m now twenty one and he’s been dead eight years but my i’s still curve the same way as his.
I watched the last season of a TV show recently but I started it with my friend in high school. We haven’t spoken in four years.
I make lentil soup through the recipe my gran gave me.
I curl my hair the way my best friend showed me.
I learned to love books because my father loved them first.
How terrifying, how excruciatingly painful to acknowledge this. That I am a jigsaw puzzle of everyone I have briefly known and loved. I carry them on with me even if I don’t know it. How beautiful.

Not scene but reblogging anyway cuz this is my blog and I think it’s SO FUCKING IMPORTANT as a young trans person to see older trans people that are still happy and alive and in a good place in life with people that love them. We all deserve this <3
