hey guys! i’m coming up on the two year anniversary of having this blog, and i feel like its crowded, and i want to get a fresh start, which might help jumpstart some of my muse.

i’m not dropping everything, but i’m clearing away the majority of my asks and threads. any starters that i haven’t responded to ( i have 2 of those total i believe ) will be answered on the new blog! i’m going to pick a few asks to take with me, and canning the rest. i think. thats the plan.

this’ll probably take about a week or so, so i’m continuing that sort of hiatus status until then <3. i just need a bit of a break.

It  was  a  simple  plan,  really.    At  least,  in  their  eyes  it  was.    Convince  one  of  the  others  to  read  aloud  from  a  book  that  sounded  particularly  interesting,  and  pass  the  time  listening  to  the  story  unfold.    It  was  a  pretty  good  trick  to  discover  the  contents  of  a  nicely  decorated  tome  without  having  to  disclose  the  fact  that  they  couldn’t  read  it  themself.

Ah,  but  Caleb  is  suggesting  they  do  it  themself.    Maybe  another  time,  then.    Mollymauk  stretches  their  arms  over  their  head,  looking  around  at  the  others.

“  Not  sure.    Maybe  we  can  find  something  later  that  appeals  to  everyone,  “  they  say  with  a  frown.    “  Something  with  mystery,  romance  –  and,  yes,  a  few  dragons.    I’m  not  that  big  of  a  reader,  myself,  but  I  do  love  a  good  story.  “

caleb didn’t think he would be particularly opposed to reading a story aloud - but its not the sort of thing that would occur to him first. mollymauk’s plan was unknown to him. “ you are not a reader? “ then again, he hadn’t seen much of mollymauk ever reading. a pause, considering, a furrow of his brows. “ ...but you like stories? “ stories have always come through books for caleb. it takes him a moment to remember that that is not the only way to consume stories.

“ Mystery romance and dragons? Does that appeal to everyone? “ an arch of one of caleb’s eyebrows, as his breakfast is finished off. A scrap is picked up and fed to frumpkin, who eats it but doesn’t seem very pleased to be doing so.

it was obvious that caleb had secrets. things that he didn’t talk about, questions that were quietly warped, answers shifted to something more digestible for himself. there was such suspicion laced between the members of the mighty nein, and yet then there was mollymauk, who wanted to forget the past entirely, live in the here and now and though caleb himself could never do that ( it would be a mockery of those left behind, the memories of them that linger in his mind ), there was something he admired in mollymauk ( and worried for ) to hold that opinion.

“ i don’t think that’s something i would ever be ready for. “ and there can be trust written between the layers of secrets. that was what he and nott had. he knew there were things she did not share, and he did not pry, and the reverse was the same - and now that courtesy was extending towards the mighty nein, new ... friends. “ you don’t need to tell me yours. i won’t demand, or force, the truth out of you. “ there was a distance between them that caleb didn’t want to breach, hand rubbing the back of his neck. “ they are what they are for a reason, ja? “

there’s a furrow of caleb’s brows, and the set of his scowl is something deepset into his face. “ that ... “ he wants to say is impossible. that there are things he has done that are surely unforgivable enough to make her turn away. and he is sure there are many things he could do that would abhor her so strongly that jester would never want to look at him again. those limits must exist. though ... perhaps there is something to be said for how caleb would not want to cross those lines, and he wonders how many more of his demons can be revealed. there is little left hidden in his life. “ .. is difficult to believe, “ caleb finally settles on muttering, not wanting to reveal the slew of thoughts that surged through his head.
