1500 Feet Above Taipei

I will never forget the first time I climbed Taipei 101. In the elevator, among 20 or so other tourists ascending at 600 meters per minutes to the tallest point in Taipei. Lucky for me, the observatory was open that day and I was able to go to the roof. At that altitude, the air was extremely crisp and fresh. It was more noticeable since the streets of Taipei is filled with the smell of exhaust and gasoline from the ubiquitous mopeds.

I randomly passed this show. So I walked in. I wish I had someone else with me so I could take those silly shots. Maybe next time I'm in Kaohsiung and it's still around.

Currently in Kaohsiung. Walked around the city all day today. Traveled to Tainan yesterday. Took the bus around the city for only 50NTD but also walked alot.

Love the food here. I think I may have gained weight.

Yea. Definitely. It's another site I intend to go. I think I might spend a few days in the southern part of the island and just to check it out.

Went to quite a few places in the past 2 days. National Palace Museum, Confucius Temple, Baoan Temple, Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall and my favorite Wulai, for hot spring. I had alot of time to think in the hot spring and came to realize that there is still so much I haven't seen in the world. Also had a long chat with this Japanese guy Taka, he's been traveling all over the world since the age of 18. It made me see that I really need to broaden my horizons. As of now, I don't think I want to return to America come 2/13...

I'm the king of the world! On top of Taipei 101! Even though it's no longer the tallest building(now in Dubai) in the world, it's still a magnificent piece of architecture. Was able to go to the outside of the observatory for some of the freshest air you gonna get in any city on earth.

Went to a concert today. Stood for a good 4 and a half hours. I saw a ton of Taiwanese celebrities including Richie Ren, Wang Lee Hom and more. The concert was for a musician who passed away unexpectedly 5 years ago. Very small venue at the Ximen Red Pavillion. Well worth the 600 NT($20 USD) I spent.

Finally did something worth writing about. Visited the Taroko Gorge yesterday. According to Lonely Planet, it's the most famous tourist attraction in Taiwan. The gorge is beautiful and there are plenty of scenery but I think the most fun thing about yesterday was we got to ride 125cc Scooters throughout the mountains. It was awesome.

ok.. as someone who visits this tumblr religiously i am incredibly disappointed that after repetitively clicking reload for 4 days that you finally posted something and it was only one photo rather than a frame-by-frame gallery of your mouth full of tea eggs. i'm very disappointed :(

Went to Yangming Mountain today. Didn't really see much since we got lost. We were hoping to find a hot spring but the sun set around 5:30 PM. It got dark so quickly we didn't have time to really explore since we got there at like 4.

Had better luck at Shilin Night Market. Tried some foods and bought some gifts. Should have taken photos. Oh well.

Went to the club Tryst last night, all you can drink and no cover for everyone at the hostel. Naturally, I can't turn down free drinks. Had too much to drink...Since the club isn't even officially open yet, there were not that many people. The club is somewhat small but a tiny dance floor, but it's a chill place. The tables were mostly just rich old guys with 2 hot chicks.

Three Things I Noticed

1. Taiwan has the longest traffic lights I have ever experienced. I think one time it must have been 3 full minutes. But people really abide by the traffic lights, pedestrians don't act like they own the streets.

2. Taiwanese people line up to enter the Subway car, unlike NY and Japan where people just push their way through. It's also much cleaner than NY but that's not saying much.

3. People rarely jaywalk here.

Had breakfast at Dante Coffee today. I ordered BBQ Chicken Leg Sandwich but the guy told me they ran out. So I had some other chicken sandwich. And Taiwanese Coffee is pretty good. Foamy and pretty strong.

Taipei 101

Wanted a full day to explore this place. But didn't want to wait so I took a sneak peak. Didn't go up to the tower today. It's really just a tall green building with a fashion mall under it. But the food court is awesome. I will try something different tomorrow.

My first actual meal in Taipei. Ordered a bit too much...

I was walking around in the food court of Taipei 101 mall, there were quite a few choices like Mos Burger, Hi Sushi, Sergeant Chicken, a la mian place, Indian Express, couple Japanese places, a Korean place, and more. But I wanted something Taiwanese, so I ended up picking a place with a giant lantern with the words Oyster Pancake on it, doesn't get more Taiwanese than this.

What I ordered:

Fried Pork Chops w/Rice

Fried Tofu

Oyster Pancake

I didn't know it came with fish ball soup and a GIANT bowl of rice with veggies and minced pork.

It was good.

Just arrived at the hostel and it's only 11:03 AM..Dropped my stuff off here and going to go out and explore.
