Since I've been horribly bed bound again and yearning to create... I thought maybe it'd be nice to explain some of my OCs.
Spoilers for: Aphi (Rule of Three) and Us (DnD)
I'll be honest, this is a theme that I've had with a lot more of my OCs, but I feel finally reaches it's pinnacle within Aphi and Us. Since both parasites enter the body to prevent the death of the host.
I'll start with Aphi since she's a little more well known here on my blog. Aphi is technically not the sister of Jasper Oleander. She is a ghost of an Aphid nicknamed Rosie. However, Rosie has experienced a longer 'life' as a human that I don't feel she associates herself as a bug anymore. Since being a bug was such a fleeting part of her existence. Rosie is named and placed onto Daphnis Oleander by Nerium Oleander in the guise of a birthday gift.
Rosie's task is simple. Inhabit the girl, bring her back to the manor. Although, it's not simple. Not at all. The girl is aware of her. This makes possession of the body difficult. Also, her family is all too watchful to actually let the bug leave. It's not until the 'truth' is revealed to Daphnis that the human girl decides to cease existing. Forfeiting herself entirely to the Aphid.
During this time though, as all little girls do, she's been talking with Rosie. Telling her about her life. About food. How things feel. All things a bug wouldn't really know or understand about. Daphnis doesn't really understand or care that this is a bug. It feels like something she can tell everything to because it doesn't know enough to be judgemental. However, just because Rosie didn't know enough doesn't mean she didn't have thoughts. She just lacked a way to humanly express them and simply didn't live long enough to know life.
So, by the time Daphnis forfeits herself.... Rosie is quite in love with the life Daphnis has and feels familial to Daphnis. However, there isn't a way for her (at this time) to convince Daphnis to live on. So... she takes the body and lives out Daphnis life. At this point on, Rosie prefers the nickname Aphi. Because it's a little bit of both her and Daphnis. With rare occasions to actually talk with Daphnis whenever her consciousness floats to the surface. Daphnis is always out of reach for Aphi to pull back fully.
Occasionally, when Aphi leaves the body to explore as a specter this forces Daphnis to take control but Daphnis at this point is stuck at her uncle's manor. So she still refuses to accept a life that traps her to her uncle's side. But Aphi doesn't rush Daphnis to take control of her life. Aphi promises that she'll endure the moments with Nerium and give back the body when Nerium is dead.
Well... Nerium does die. Sooner then Aphi had expected. Suddenly, what was going to be years of thinking about the end of her possession days is now something she has to face fully.
It should be simple. Simply leave the body and exit Daphnis life. But like before, it isn't simple at all.
She can't leave because the same bonds that prevented her before are now tangled up with her too. She built a life around this body and leaving suddenly would burden everyone. Daphnis doesn't know how to live in this modern world (of 1912)!!! Aphi has to teach her, slowly, and additionally solve the Manor's mystery without involving the other as much. Since, in Aphi's eyes, the manor mystery of it trapping spirits is more of her business anyways.
But damn, it makes it harder when Jasper finally comes home and she realizes that she needs help. So... Aphi plans. Her goals for her plans is to ensure a good life for her host. It's literally the least she can do after receiving ~16 years of life she was never meant to have. (I'm too tired to look up the actual years) Though, letting go isn't easy and she doesn't even think about sharing the body (which is what does happen).

Now a little note before I get into talking about Us. Sometimes, I think my ideas are pretty good but then I see it laid out like this and I go "omg this sucks" before I move on and like it. Though that struggle does effect me posting half the time. I am trying to think of this as a scribble/sketch, it's ok if it's not perfect, it just needs to exist.

Us is a Circle of Spores Druid that started out at a level 20 and then was reduced to level 11. I made them based off the mushroom meme post and technically they were a one off character that I decided to use in a campaign. Which meant actually developing them... Which hadn't really been on my mind when I made them.
To explain how my imagination works, I often think of it as a theatre and I hire actors to come play parts for me. Every OC I think of is fully formed in some way, but how much I know about them is LITERALLY how much they're willing to tell me. Us definitely had a (C)astiel type of treatment. Hired for a one off but was called back to be a permanent cast member. Being Faelost, and also Fae, they're were very careful in the way I received and complied their information. (Gosh, I will never not be self conscious about how I describe my little imaginary guys!) But ultimately, after a year of playing them and thinking about them... They're another story about a parasite loving it's host.
Us, the fungus, is a death cap mushroom system from Faerûn. They were collected by the original Us (who I was told I was never EVER going to get the name of) who I tend to call Sylvia or The Caretaker. (Despite not being the original's name) The Caretaker is a Witherbloom professor who was studying the spell feign death and the mushrooms ability to reproduce the conditions of that spell organically. The caretaker was fully convinced that there was a way to utilize the spell so that the person can pass off as dead but still be fully alive. Being kept in a preserved state until they could receive medical assistance.
Even though The Colony (Deathcap Mushrooms) were essentially test subjects... They found the trade fair. Perhaps even skewed too much in the colony's favor. They were provided unlimited resources and shelter for an occasional sacrifice of some of their own. The Caretaker even seem to be aware of which parts they offered up to be used. (Which is normal, for a druid tbh) But regardless, the colony was grateful to the consideration.
The caretaker is definitely a person who talks to plants though even without needing to. So, the colony grew under the Caretaker, and learned about the new realm as well.
Eventually, stuff happens, and the Caretaker is dying. The colony has a choice. Watch their Caretaker die or prevent their death. Which is were the 'reborn' status of them comes in. They're still humanoid instead of undead as a reborn which I found out later and felt like "yes.... According to plan". As patient 0.... The academy did the most academy thing I can think of, toss them into a portal, and made it someone else's problem!
From here, Us's goal is to get back to Faerûn (Colony's 1st Home) to bargain for a revival spell to be used on them. Since, they're aware of the price they must pay in Faerûn vs anywhere else. (The price being the colony's life over the Caretaker's) With the original conscious of both the Caretaker and Little Guy (Caretaker's pet and mascot) mingled and included with the hivemind. However, the original consciousness totally gets drowned out with the thousands of fungus in the body. So, kinda like Daphnis, there's moments where the original is surface level and moments were the original is too deep to be reached. Either way, the parasite (which is both preserving but also killing the host) refuses to let go because of a unexplainable bond. One rooted in what I would consider love.

Inspired after I saw like a tapeworm post and got really emotional about it. What IF the parasite loves it's host???? WHAT IF IT TRIES TO STOP BEING AS PARASITIC SO IT'S HOST LIVES???? WHAT IF THE HOST IS HEALTHIER WITHOUT THEM THERE????
(shakes the bars of my cage)
WHAT IF THEY LOVE THE HOST MORE THEN THEY VALUE THEIR LIFE???
I am stable but I have increasing pain and a strong fever that's unexainavle.
I wanted to state that here just in case something goes wrong. It shouldn't, I feel fairly hopeful about this, but the situation is concerning the medical professionals so I think it's good to prepare for bad news.
I just don't want to disappear without telling everyone how much I love them

"I felt rather spoiled thinking I was the best thing in your life. I realized you just had very little to compare to." -Clarssa, probably, most likely.
Going crazy mode FERAL I NEED THIS TO BE A GAAAAAAME
This has layers to it (like an onion), I realized a whole month later that I switched the skin tones in my Tomodachi life for Clarssa and Oleander but ended up liking Oleander better in an olive tan. While Clarssa... hmmm, I feel I can make her a little more tanner.
But like, also I think when they bump into each other and fall in love in TDLLTD it's cute and I drew that.
(the last panel reads so differently if you don't know about these two)
