Bottlecaps can help with skinpicking/dermatillomania!

Carry a few in your pocket at all times. When you feel the urge to pick, pull one out and start picking at the vinyl liner inside the cap. It has the same sort of tactile feeling to your fingers as skinpicking, and when you manage to remove the liner from the cap, you have the same feeling of satisfaction or weird accomplishment—but no holes in your skin, torn nails, picked scabs, etc.

You can buy a bazillion of them at a time from places like Etsy or eBay. Make sure they have the vinyl liners in them—craft supply places tend to sell them without.

I’ve suffered from compulsive skinpicking/dermatillomania literally since I was born. It’s a constant battle. I’ve followed all sorts of advice, from “draw patterns on your skin with your fingertips instead!” to the ever-unhelpful “mind over matter!” but the bottlecaps have been the only thing to reallyhelp me a lot.

Me: no it's really not. it's perceived to be true 95% of the time and more than HALF of the time it's "true" because of how society has made it. It's difficult to be a girl and not be told that you SHOULD be wearing a short skirt. You SHOULD want to get a guy's attention. And guys take the fact that a girl is wearing a short skirt as an excuse to judge them and say they only want sex. Like fuck that. You know what the problem is? It's stereotypes. You wanna know why Tinkerbell wears a short skirt? Because she's wearing a leaf because she's a FUCKING FAIRY. Not because she wants a guy's DICK. A guy can wear whatever the fuck he wants and not be said that his clothes means he wants to have sex. A guy can walk around shirtless and everyone will be like "well it's hot outside" like have some common sense and apply that to girls. Girls wear skirts. Skirts are short because it's summer. And maybe they wear them in winter. I wore a shorter dress today and does that mean I want dick? No that means I wanted to wear a fucking dress. Don't make it out to be that someone wearing something short wants something from you.

Today was a really fantastic day.

A while back I had the thought, “I wish I could buy all my friends a 3DS and a copy of Animal Crossing.” The more I thought about it, the more I believed it wasn’t something out of my reach. I did a little bit of saving up and made enough to make it happen.

Tea, desserts, and Animal Crossing with four of my favorite people in the world. I had a really good day.
