MIP is having an alter who really wants to front, but we have work and he is nonverbal and only vocalizes in chirps and trills, which is an issue before we work at the front desk of a dormitory building and need to be verbal.

Okay genuine advice. There really isnt any "getting into it". Unless you plan on going straight into pro collecting (which even im not doing), casual pokémon card collecting is literally just buying a card binder if u plan to collect lots, and buying packs as you can afford. Casual collecting is as easy as "buy a pack, save the cards!" Theres usually one rare card per pack, and if you get stupid lucky you might pull a catch card that even big collectors want
This DOES get pricy nowadays, but there is "Pokemon TCG Pocket" which kinda simulates getting a pokemon card pack every day, but yknow... its digital so meh. But its free!! And official so people collect there shamelessly as well. Its a good way to get into it easily without breaking the bank. Thats what I reccomend starting off with to see if you like collecting them before you spend money :3
