Couch wanted

We are working on organising the hike in the Netherlands leg. Are you or do you know someone that lives around our route? Does this person also have a comfy couch? We would love to hear from you and would love to stay for a (few) night(s)!

As some of you may know, we have been working tirelessly since October 2021 to organise this hike. We do this with a lot of passion. However, this hasn’t always been easy as organisers and family of someone with Lupus. We care a lot about the work that the NVLE does and want to provide the organisation with the best charity hike that the NVLE and their fund deserve. 

Lately we have been running into a lot of logistical barriers trying to organise this hike. Alongside this Tonny broke her leg 2 months ago during an accident. She is currenlty out of the cast and working really hard alongside a physiotherapist to start walking long distances again. It is with a heavy heart that we have decided to cut the Ireland portion of this hike. This means that the hik will start later than originally planned, but Tonny will still be walking well over 2000 km. The hike will start March 28th and commences in Liverpool and finishes, as planned in Passau, Germany on June 29th. 

As an alternative we are looking into walking a portion of Pieterpad in the Netherlands before the international hike begins. 

We want to thank you all for your continued support and look forward to seeing you at our bingo night in Den Bosch on February 27th and at the start of the hike in March.

Welkom bij een bijzondere samenwerking tussen de NVLE (Nationale Vereniging voor mensen met Lupus, APS, Sclerodermie en MCTD) en het lokale

Nog maar iets meer dan een week te gaan tot het benefietconcert!

Bij deze maak ik graag nog een muzikant bekend, namelijk Christian Gilissen (piano). Hij zal een heerlijke muzikale toevoeging zijn tussen onze sprekers.

Een van onze sprekers is een lupus gespecialiseerde arts en gaat jullie van alles uitleggen over lupus en wat voor effect dat heeft op mensen.

Trio Musicians

In two weeks are benefit concert wil take place, filled with Young Talent! To give you a taste of what's to come, I proudly present a trio made up of Evan van Dijk (violin, 15), Lasse Reijnen (cello, 16) en Alex Hwang (piano, 16) that will play a lovely piece for us!

Tonny will be executing the hike, but Joris and Femke are organising the entire thing. Together they provide social media content, translations, organise the benefit concert(tickets still for sale via the link), the gym routines and everything else!

Benefietconcert

In 30 days our benefit concert is taking place supported by the Young Musicians Academy and the Regional Orchestra of Factorium Tilburg. 

The programme is filled with music and educational talks about the auto-immune disease Lupus held by NVLE, a specialised doctor and a patient. We will also be telling our story about organising the Lupus Charity Walk 2023.

Scouting ahead

In the first week of August we've gone out to scout part of our route along the E8 hike that Tonny will be walking. We chose one of the most difficult parts of our route as a ways of testing.

We started off in Killarney, Ireland, which was amazing! The start of our hike is also the most difficult part of the hike as it is remote. We hiked for a few days going through The City of Shrone and Millstreet. We got a pretty good idea of the challenges of this route. The gorgeous landscape of Ireland turns out to be highly motivating as well! Tonny also won't have to walk alone as there were a few curious sheep and farmers that came to see what we were all about.

After hiking for a few days we went to Dublin and got a chance to evaluate the route whilst enjoying a nice glass of Guinness and a plate of pasta.
