THE OSIRIS MYSTERY CYCLE
In the occult system of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, O.T.O. and A∴A∴ , these qabalistic postures are not merely myth but a sequence of operative states enacted through the body, the imagination, and the subtle medium the adepts called the Astral Light. Performing these postures allows the Initiate to become a living hieroglyph and a conductor of force.
Within practical work, these forms are precise instruments. The sign of Osiris Slain appears in the Neophyte formula of the L.V.X. signs and in the Greater Rituals of the Pentagram and Hexagram, where it marks the withdrawal of force and the entry into the field of operation. It is a gesture of stilling and receptivity, used before assumption of godforms and in the preliminary stages of astral work.
Isis Mourning belongs to the magnetic phase. It is formally employed as part of the L.V.X. sequence in the Neophyte formula, particularly in opening and closing operations such as the Analysis of the Keyword (as used within the Greater Ritual of the Hexagram and related workings). In this context, it represents the gathering and containment of force after its withdrawal in Osiris Slain, establishing a receptive field within which the invoked current may be held and equilibrated. It thus governs the interiorisation of force prior to its direction by the will.
The sign of Apophis is the dynamic expression of power under tension. In Golden Dawn practice it is explicitly used in the charging of talismans and in the projection of force in the Greater Invoking Rituals. Here the will is extended outward into the Astral Light, overcoming inertia and imprinting form upon the subtle substance.
Osiris Risen completes the circuit. It seals the operation in the L.V.X. formula and restores equilibrium after force has been projected. In assumption of godforms and higher-grade work it establishes alignment along the Middle Pillar, stabilising the body of light and fixing the result within the sphere of sensation.
Taken together, these gestures form a technical grammar of initiation. They regulate the flow of force, shaping the Astral Light and through it, the initiate.
