Javier Slowburn Concept

I love the idea of a long, slowburn romance with Javier... Slow and uneventful to the point that neither you nor him notice it creeping up on you.

It starts with something as simple as sharing space quietly.

a meal

a short conversation

some time by the fire

maybe a song.

Slowly it turned into going out on short jobs and trips together.

if he's getting ready to go fishing you tend to join him more often than not.

If you want to go into town he'll tag along unless he's held up with other duties.

With this slow, gradual increase in time spent together, in conversations and stories traded, you and him become friends. A comforting presence to one another in the unsteady lives you two lead.

The growth of your friendship brings a new closeness.

patching up his wounds when the others are preoccupied, or him yours.

Standing beside one-another during discussions

always sitting side-by-side at the fire in the evenings, sometimes with him softly strumming his guitar, sometimes with idle conversation flowing, and even sometimes in a comforting blanket of silence.

The gradual increase in your closeness continues.

when he checks his appearance in the morning he may ask you whether he looks alright, and it's not unheard of to see you fixing the collar of his shirt, or the way his poncho lays across his shoulders.

On the note of appearances, he becomes steadily more and more prone towards gently fixing yours, readjusting your hair if it's done up to keep it looking right, picking fluffs stuck to your clothes, even wiping little smudges of grime off your face when they crop up over the course of the day.

You easily leaning into his side in the evenings.

Him draping himself over your shoulders dramatically after a long guard shift. Sometimes you even humor him, though more often than not you shoo him away so you can continue your chores.

Being thought of by the others as more of a pair than two individuals. "Hey, can you and Javier run to town and pick up some supplies?" from Pearson "Would you and Javier want to go scout out this auction happening nearby? Might be good money" from Lenny "Can you take us to town?" from the girls, who know full well you can't drive a wagon... But Javier can.

Eventually, it gets to the point where you two are all but formally a couple.

You two no longer correct shopkeepers on their assumptions that you two are together.

Neither of you had been seeing anyone, even for just one evening of fun for a long while.

He tends to pull your head over to leave a kiss on the side of it before riskier missions, for good luck he assures you.

You've both fallen asleep in each other's bedrolls multiple times, with little fanfare.

At a certain point you don’t even NEED to formally tell each other anything about your feelings. Labels mean little at a certain point. You’re dedicated to each other in every way that matters and you don’t even know when it got to that point.

Ahhh I understand why ppl love writing this stuff it’s so satisfyingggg ^-^!!! I’m sorry if it’s a bit messy, I am not at a point yet where I feel the need to edit my work at all hehe… Please please feel free to leave asks for what you’d like to see next !!!

Javier Headcanons ~

While Javier is amazing at grand romantic gestures, or even simple flirtation, he is downright AWFUL with casual expressions of care and love O_o

When you two are done eating you scoop up both of your bowls and give them a quick wash. The simple, small, nonverbal action communicates a lot to him. A lot more than he can handle in that moment. Such minuscule acts of service are truly what gets him, the simple domesticity of the act both demonstrating to him his place in your life, as well as sending his thoughts towards a future where the same simple act may be repeated in a nice shared kitchen with a roof over your heads…

You tend to fuss over his aches and pains, more than strictly necessary, especially by the gang’s standards. Your careful check-ins on how his injuries heal, even past the point of him being fully functional, continue to fluster him more than he’d like to admit. Gentle fingers undoing any bandages and just barely prodding at healing skin and bruising…

If you sew, you take the time to embroider little designs around any rips in his clothing, anything that strikes your fancy on a given day. He has many items with little coyotes running across the fabric, birds soaring, and even a pair of pants with a fairly large willow tree patched in over the knee. It becomes a habit for him to run his fingers over the designs, and every time a new one appears he spends hours studying it, unsure what to say, what to do to thank you. (A lot of the time this just ends with him laying the flirting on particularly thick for a few days, or leaving little gifts around your bedroll or in your saddlebags)

This is my first ever time writing anything “x reader” or any headcanons/fanfic at all… please be kind !! This is a little messy, short, and low effort but I am just having fun O_o!!! I do want to do more so please feel free to leave ideas in my askbox ^_^!!
