Uhmmmm her girlfriend Rudy is a trans woman and the student film project was supposed to be like a horror movie type thing but turned into like a rom com documenting her transition and the start of her and Dylan's relationship cus Dylan is one of the camera women and once Rudy starts to transition Dylan literally refuses to point the camera at anyone else
Uhmm the part where everything goes wrong is that the films director, Hayden loses his girlfriend in a horrible car crash that everyone says was 'intentional' and actually it was, but like it was intentional because she (I'm forgetting her name RN cus I don't have the notes right in front of me) was essentially being possessed by this entity that is the embodiment of female rage and horror and was able to prey on her because she has like so many issues that relate to her relationship with her feminity and culture
And then Hayden has like a breakdown (I don't have a better word for it) because she keeps appearing to him in this supernatural entity form that represents all the things wrong with society's standards for women, imagine like super thin, hairless, kinda of doll like, and her face is just this blur that has two eyes and a mouth kinda cut out looking thing (like if she were an art project made up of magazines cut outs) and uhhhhh yeah
Point is he's trying to bring down their entire friend group because him and his girlfriend were incredibly and unhealthily codependent on each other so he's trying to drag everyone else down with him and his girlfriend only wants them around because she wants her family (found family trope goes brrr) to be ok she doesn't really want them to join her and Hayden she just wants to keep an eye on them
