Papa John’s Nutrition Calculator & New “Lighter” Menu
Papa John’s has added a nutrition calculator and new menu options “Papa’s Lighter Choices" with pizzas such as Mediterranean veggie, chicken and veggie, grilled chicken and Canadian bacon, and Hawaiian chicken pizzas. All the pizzas are 280 or fewer calories per slice. Read More.
Papa John’s to remove 14 artificial ingredients and other additives from its menu
Papa John’s plans to ban 14 ingredients by the end of 2016 in order to shift to more natural ingredients. The anticipated cost of this shift is around $100 million in added expenses each year - ingredients include corn syrup, artificial colors and various preservatives. Read More.
Pizza Patron Introduces New App
Pizza Patron will be debuting their new app soon. Though there is no release date available, we do know customers will be able to save time and either earn coupons/points. It’s definitely an initiative we should stay close to see if customers react positively and if Pizza Patron reports an increase in sales. Read More
Fast Food and Alcohol?
Taco Bell recently announced they will serve alcohol at a Chicago location in the Wicker Park neighborhood. We’re not sure if this initiative will be adopted by other US locations but recently we’ve seen Taco Bell making a huge effort with millennials by adapting their language and trying to stay relevant with this demographic.

We recently learned that Pizza Patron introduced two new wing flavors just in time for summer. The “Naked” and “BBQ” flavors will join the existing wing menu & be supported with in-store point-of-purchase displays, local print and digital media. Read More

Pizza Patron recently launched their “La Lonchera” $4.99 lunch combo in San Antonio. This promotion will run thru August and is aimed at increasing traffic and sales during their slowest day part. Read More.
Pizza Hut is set to test Uber-like Delivery in the DFW Area
Next month, Pizza Hut will be testing Uber-like delivery at 75 locations in the DFW area. Pizza Hut Nav will allow consumers to track their drivers on a map from time of order until the driver shows up on their street, much like Uber. Read More.
It’s not entirely clear if this initiative will be rolled out nationally but we’ll keep a close eye on it and try to obtain feedback from anyone in this area that may test it out.
The Fiesta de Mayo Pizza
An interesting product introduction from Hideaway Pizza located in Oklahoma. Their new Fiesta de Mayo Pizza includes refried beans, jalapeños, chorizo, roma tomatoes, cheddar cheese and red onions. Its then baked and topped with shredded lettuce, enchilada sauce and sour cream.
Hideaway Pizza was also included in the “Best Pizza Worth Traveling For’ by Trip Advisor back in 2014. We anticipate seeing more of these seasonal pizzas as Hideaway is looking to introduce new menu items to fit with the taste of each season. Read More.
Taco Bell Launches Loyalty Program – Will this initiative be tested with any of the other Yum! Brands?
We recently learned that Taco Bell will launch a loyalty program later this year for customers. The loyalty program will be geared toward increasing customers’ overall visits to Taco Bell locations. U.S Hispanics restaurant visits, spending outpace non-Hispanics
A recent study indicates the average U.S. Hispanic consumer visits quick service restaurants more than the average non-Hispanic consumer. Higher spending is attributed to Hispanics having larger party sizes and more visits with children.
By showing commitment to connecting with Hispanics outside of the store will show our brand isn’t just a pizza place, it’s their neighborhood pizza place. Read More

Pizza Loca, based in California, is currently offering their GIGANTE pizza for $9.99. The 32 square pizza feeds eight people and some of their additional toppings include carne asada, chorizo and jalapenos.
Papa John’s Introduces PAY$HARE for Online Ordering
When ordering pizza for a group of friends, we most often always ask, “Which toppings and what’s the easiest way to split the bill?”
Papa John’s newest addition to online ordering is called PayShare and it’s aimed at making it easier for groups to split checks when ordering pizza online. Customers will place their order, checkout using their payment of choice, then be prompted to click on the PayShare button which will allow them to enter the contact information of those that are splitting the bill through Venmo.
This partnership makes splitting the bill less of a hassle among peers and hits on convenience when it comes to online ordering. Their new ad features Indiana Pacers’ Paul George – interesting to note their end tag for this specific piece of creative has changed to ‘PapaJohns.com’ vs. ‘PapaJohns’ and features Facebook, Twitter and Instagram in the super which typically haven’t been featured in previous executions.
Pizza Hut’s New Menu Not Seeing Expected Sales
This week Pizza Hut’s largest franchisee, NPC International reported Pizza Hut’s new Flavors of Now menu has yet to drive sales. This menu primarily designed for Millennials has yet to gain the traction Pizza Hut anticipated. Is it a matter of awareness or something much deeper? We are curious how are high Hispanic stores are doing amidst this all. What are their Hispanic millennial consumers responding to this menu?
