I am aware that this upcoming case may end with the culprit and I with a bullet in both our heads. But it must be done. Before I go, I shall deliver this letter to you. So, Naegi, this is what I wanted to say.

I am sorry for leaving on such short notice. I am also sorry for not being able to tell you in person, I assumed you would try and stop me… It would just make this harder, do you not agree? Because, either way I would still do it. And you must also agree that profession must come before personal feelings… Right?

In conclusion… I am so sorry. I am so sorry that this is how it ends. Or perhaps I will be strong enough to get over this abnormally tough case.

One last time, the detective looked at the neat letter she had so carefully written. Her last thoughts, so personal, aimed at her best friend before she faced a life or death situation… It seemed so unreal that they were written on a piece of printer paper in a happy color like purple. Kirigiri bit her bottom lip, folding the paper up and slipping it into Naegi’s dorm, hoping he wasn’t their. She turned around briskly, walking away with loud clicks of her heels.

Hopefully, no one would notice her absence. 

As if. What a silly thought.

Recipe: Custard Biscuits

Preparation Time: 2-6 minutes

Cooking time: 12 minutes

Makes: 36

Ingredients: 

250g butter, softened

1/2 cup pure icing sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 3/4 cups plain flour

1/2 custard powder

Method

Preheat oven to 180C. Line 2 baking trays with baking paper. Place butter, sugar and vanilla into the mixing bowl and combine them well by the use of wooden spoon and eventually your hands.

Add flour and custard powder. Pulse until combined (don't over-process or biscuits will not have a fine texture -- this is also where you may need to use your hands to mix.)

Roll heaped teaspoonfulls of mixture into small balls. Place onto prepared baking trays. Press with a floured fork to flatten slightly.  Bake for 12 minutes or until lightly golden. Allow to stand on trays for 2 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool. Repeat with remaining biscuit mixture.
