If he was honest, he would have mentioned something along the lines of ‘he wasn’t used to people right out saying things like that to him’ but he figured she may get the gist of it.

How was he so blind? He always found himself wanting to be on top, the strongest mutant/being in the world, and yet, now that exact sort of order was aligning itself right in front of him, and yet, he seemed to care naught for it. Wasn’t this what he wanted in the end? For mutants to be on top, and all others at the bottom?

If he was technical about it, he wanted himself on top and all others beneath him, but that thinking only got him so far.

"You would think that — a terrible leader. Certainly not someone who ruled over an entire dimension for a majority of their life, with countless followers ready to lay their lives on the line for him. No. That’s certainly not me. Not at all.

I’ve done more in leadership than you’ve ever done. And listen well when I tell you this — this was no act of hiding with my tail between my legs. It’s called letting things play out, watching from the sidelines for a way in. Let the others take their falls before stepping in. Less competition in the long run that way. Don’t make assumptions you know nothing about.

You’re just damn well lucky I don’t find you as part of my competition. Or you’d be dead by now. I don’t think I’d have the heart to kill you though.”

     That does not make you a good leader, it makes you manipulative. Just because there are those who are loyal to you and worshiped you it doesn’t make you able to make decisions that are good for your people. You intended to lead them into a war, one you had no purpose starting at the time. This is all entirely different, it was provoked, the straw that broke the camels back. If you can’t see the difference you’re as blind as you ever were.

 You can’t— it took a moment for those words to sink in, and when they fully did he smiled as kind as ever. That’s where we differ.

"I had reason. Albeit, perhaps, not a good one. But, whatever the case the case may be, I was seen as--" It took Brian's words a bit to really hit home, but when they did, they brought Azazel's speech to a grinding halt. Was he hearing things right? If he was, those were words he never expected to hear come from Brian's mouth.

"And why the sudden change in heart? If I remember correctly, you were the one who wanted to stand between the angels and I, to protect my life. And now, should I happen to step in your way, you'd rather just pick me off and move on? You've flipped onto your head like the rest of the world."

But all it’s lead to are disagreements, fights, war — nothing good ever came of it. So why start now? To bring about another bout of war just to satisfy the need to be equal?"

Coming from the mutant who wanted to be above everyone else in the world. Talk about ironic.

"The world has reversed. That’s all that’s happened. And you’ve merely followed suit. Funny that most of the population still goes about their daily business, but these so called ‘heroes and villains’ all did a 180 after some sort of huge event. It really makes you think."

     It’s not about equality anymore, it’s about correcting the food chain so it lines up with the natural order. Mutants on top, that’s how it’s gonna go.

     No one has been reversed, an’ epiphany has just finally been reached. And as always you’ve been locked away safetly with your tail between your legs like a child. If anything, that should make you think. That a man such as yourself hides when things become a bit too threatening. You would make a terrible leader.

"If it wasn’t important, you wouldn’t have brought it up in the first place. Most people would bring something to another’s attention if it bothered them, or held some importance to you. Why bring it up to me if there is no importance behind it?"

Now began the pestering. No keeping secrets.

"If you’re afraid of my reaction, maybe I should promise not to have a- a bad reaction."

Her face flushed and she shrank down slightly, still looking away from him. After a few moments she finally spoke up, though not too loud, “…they usually involve…kissing.” She looked back to him, “I honestly don’t know why but they do and it’s really weird ‘cause we’re friends and not…you know…but usually I’m in some dress and you’re in a suit and it’s just weird like I said. That’s all it is.”

That still made the world sound like it was flipped upside down and no one knew what was right and what was wrong.

"Whatever the case may be, it doesn’t bode well for me. I care not what they do, whether they want to be good or bad. My relationships with others is terrible, and they are sure to leave me out of their plans. Or ignore me entirely. Their call."

From what Azazel was gathering, Brian cared not for his father’s behavior, at least to some extent. And that was truly unlike him. It only led to one thing. At least in Azazel’s mind. His tail flicked this way and that, seemly irritated that Brian was following his father’s footsteps in the crazy world.

"And are you merely following your father? You seem to care naught for what he’s doing, where normally you would be appalled by this." 

     Where I’m from it’s mostly if you’re weak you die.

     Turning and climbing up the wall Brian returned to the rafters, slinking till he found a proper spot to hang from and promptly wrapped his tail tightly around one of the beams. Dropping down he and Azazel were nose to nose.

     I don’t blame them for finally been fed up with this whole ‘the strong are a threat, kill them!’ thing. It literally goes against the natural order, I mean that’s what God intended. Those higher on the food chain regulating and often altering the environment while those who are weaker provide energy and additional help. Symbiosis. This world up until this point has been a bunch of ants fighting off a kid, the kid just finally realized he shouldn’t feel bad when the ants bite him so he went and got his garden hose.

     It’s sad, yeah, but part of life as a whole.

"You’ll have to elaborate. I’m not the best at reading minds. Therefore, you saying you had ‘weird dreams’ means nothing to me, because that could entail numerous options." Even if she had said what the dreams had been, he probably would have asked for more detail on them, because he got nosy at times, and if it involved him, he wanted all the details he could get.

"Nothing I’m going to worry you about that." She turns her face away, biting her lower lip as she digs her foot into the ground, "Just..stupid stuff, really, nothing of importance I don’t know why I brought it up."

"I got it. No stabbing the hearing aid. Or you. Definitely not you."

He doesn’t like to admit things, especially not sensitive things, to other people. But, hey, he trusted her, so why not let a secret or two slip out here and there. That’s what friendship, even if he had a hard time believing he had friends, was about. "Yes. After spending as much time as I did with my grandson, yourself, and even Janos, I got accustomed the having someone around. Having no one around was uncomfortable for me."

He raised an eyebrow, watching her with peaked curiosity. "And that is?"

She was silent during his confession, having a big ol’ “you like crabby patties, don’t you Squidward?” smirk on her face. But it soon fell away at his question and she sighed, “Even before you left I started having weird dreams about you…I don’t know what the hell is up with that but…yeah.” Not like she was going to admit what the dreams were about, but she was being slightly open about it.

"It’s the only term I could think of. Heroes going against the morals they stand for, and villains taking a brighter path of life. As much as I’d like to be overjoyed at the fact, I cannot bring myself to be. For every hero that turns, a villain changes too. And it’s not fun going against those you normally would consider likely allies."

Though, the thought had crossed his mind to try and team up with his son, seeing as his moral compass was the complete opposite of what it was before. With their present status, however, it was not likely that Kurt would take to him kindly. No, he’d probably have some holes in him that he didn’t have presently, once his son got done with him.

"I’m surprised you haven’t tried to help turn him back on the right track. Seems like something you’d likely do."

     Why would I try pulling back progress, Grandpop?

     In that moment Brian found himself genuinely confused by Azazels words, head cocking as his smile finally fully fell.

     The only reason Sabertooth and the others are trying to do anything ‘right’ is to as always one up the people they hate. It’s sort of like the whole disagreeing with your parents thing when you’re a teenager, these pants look like something Dad would wear guess I wont wear them because now they’re ugly. Accept they are permanently stuck in that mind set. Finally things are going the way they’ve always fought for, everyone is agreeing with them who matters, and they still aren’t happy. The world will always be filled with people who need a reason to complain, even after the humans.

"I meant I’d stab the hearing aid, not your whole ear. That’s a mess I don’t want a clean up, and a lawsuit I don’t want to deal with period." The lawsuit part was a joke, and hey, he couldn’t help but say it. He needed his sense of humor to come back; what little sense of humor he had, at least.

He pondered over his time alone for a moment. Sure, it was fun while it lasted, but it sure did make him feel… more alone than he usually felt. He lets out a sigh, crossing his arms. "I only enjoyed it a bit. Clearly I don’t do well alone for too long."

"Either way, I’d rather you didn’t stab it okay?" She honestly looked surprise at his response, "You…don’t do well alone? Who the hell are you and what have you done with Azazel?" She laughed a little and shook her head, "…actually uh, there’s something I need to be honest with you about."

It felt longer than a minute to him, but hey, he did enjoy it just a bit. After all, most people hated him, and wouldn’t dare give him any sort of affection. Probably because he’d stab them first but that’s beside the point.

"I no longer have a working phone. So until I get a new one, late night texts will be a rarity from me. Besides, most of my late night texts were because I had a few drinks and no one else was around to talk to."

So that was only partially a lie. Sure, no one was around to talk to that late at night, but he actually enjoyed talking with her. So there was that.

"Are you sure it’s idiot proof? I could test the theory by stabbing it."

She rolls her eyes at him as though saying “suuuuuuuuuuuure” but just smirks at him. But that quickly goes away, “I’d rather you did not stab me in the ear, it’s fucked up enough as is. And by idiot proof I mean they can’t rip it off my ear and then destroy it by running it over with a truck.”

She seems to think about something else for a moment but pushes it out of her mind, “It was too quiet around here without ya. I hope you enjoyed your alone time though.”

He tried and that was the thought that counts. At least to him. After all, he had escaped notice for quite some time.

"If you haven’t noticed, you’re the first one to actually find me. So either I’m actually hiding very well, or no one cares to come looking for me. However, after seeing recent events, I’m not surprised. It’s better off that I’ve hidden away — everyone else seems to-"

There’s a slight pause — he’s not sure how to word it precisely. His finger was on his chin in thought. Everything happened so quickly, he wasn’t sure what started it all in the first place. All he knew was that many heroes had lost their minds, if he was exact about it.

"—Seems to have lost their ‘marbles’. It’s as if the world spins in reverse, and others follow it, reversing their roles. I don’t know what to make of it."

     Brian simply starred at him, the flicking of his tail picking up a much snappier tempo as it raised slightly. Azazel was one of those then? Assuming that instead of finally coming to a well over due realization that those sitting on ‘hero’ status had simply gone insane. Sad. It was really really sad. His Grandfather of all people he would have thought would celebrate the end of human reign.

     It’s just something everyone is going to have to get used to I guess. When the whole world order thing is rewritten and all that, hopefully not too many people will die. It’s been really weird not having Dad around the school though, the bamfs have become a lot more clingy because of it.
