Although Becka tries to exude the ‘super cool bad girl’ aspects of her personality a lot, she’s also a giant nerd and bookworm underneath all of that. She loves Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, Star Wars, Harry Potter, and various other stories that people are a bit surprised to find she knows so much about.

9. How do they manifest energy, exhaustion, tension, or other strong emotions?

Most of the time Mystique keeps herself tightly under control. Her expression is inscrutable and her body language gives little away concerning her mood or physical condition. The basic clues would be a tightness in the line of her mouth and an increase in the glow of her eyes. When she loses her temper though it’s a scary thing, people usually die.

14. What do they care deeply about? What kind of loyalties, commitments, moral codes, life philosophies, passions, callings, or spirituality and faith do they have? How do these tend to be expressed?

She has few loyalties other than to herself primarily and the cause of mutant supremacy second. Family is deeply important to her however, but not really in a way that most people would understand it. Her relationship with Sabretooth couldn’t really be described as a commitment, although he is the closest thing to a long-term boyfriend she’s ever had. Spirituality and faith play no role whatsoever in her character, she’s a hardened atheist and rarely gives any thought to religion. She expresses beliefs, and what she wants as and when she wants, but as Forge says about her ‘you change but you never really change.’

24. How do they present themselves socially? What distinguishes their “persona” from their “true self”, and what causes that difference?

You couldn’t really say Mystique has a social life and how would you go about defining her true self? She’s more of an enigma than practically any other mutant. She’s not friendly, doesn’t volunteer information about herself, and quite enjoys toying with people’s thoughts and emotions, manipulating them to meet her goals.

29. What kind of activities, interests, and hobbies do they have? What significance and impact do these have in their lives, both positive and negative?

Mystique has a great many activities, most of them criminal. Her life is spent furthering her agenda and she has no time for hobbies or interests outside of that framework. That said does she enjoy adopting the hobbies and interests of others when she takes on their lives? Almost certainly.

34. How do they understand the world–what kind of worldview and thought processes do they have? Why?

Mystique has been around for a very long time and seen how humans treat each other. She’s seen brutality, lived huge numbers of differing lives, she sees the world as a deeply hostile place and acts to keep herself alive and to push forward the paths of all mutants.

37. Have they had any special education or training that colors their means of learning about or understanding the world? Conversely, do they lack some kind of education considered essential in their world? What kind of impact has this addition or lack had on them?

You have to consider that Mystique was born two centuries ago. People’s worldviews were very different then and education and literacy were less common. Perhaps she had a rudimentary education when she was a child, but more likely she educated herself after her powers manifested.

Because the universe hates him?

No, really. I’ve rambled about this on here before, but I’ll always rant some more about it. I actually really like that that’s his class? Back when the book he started in, Generation X, began, the X-Mansion was still just the X-Men’s HQ. It didn’t reopen as a school until, what, 2001 or so? It wasn’t until the first movie, so no earlier than 2000. Before that, you really didn’t get too many terribly disfigured mutants. If you did, they were Morlocks or very small-bit background characters. 

So here you’ve got this 18-year-old guy who moves across an ocean to join a tiny school for mutants in another country, and he really didn’t have anyone to guide him through how to deal with what was really a truly shitty set of powers he got saddled with. Besides Skin, another student at the school (and Jono’s bff), there weren’t really any examples of “mutants who lost the genetic lottery” for him to follow, no one to talk to about what had happened to him or how to cope with it or anything. I think part of that total isolation is what really screwed him up (besides his own depression and self-hatred and various other issues, of course). 

So even if he doesn’t exactly know what he’s doing, even if he doesn’t really think he’s helping, the idea that he can at least try to guide other kids through what’s a very scary and difficult time so that at least they can have someone to talk to about it...that appeals to him. I also think it’s helping him process his own grief and trauma at the same time, so it’s a win all around.

He still finds it laughable that someone would trust him with not scarring impressionable young minds for life, but whatever.

1 (Character Development Questions)

1:Describe their routine of a normal day/how do they feel when this routine is disrupted?

Bo’s routine is very loose to begin with so she’s not usually too distressed when things change.

She usually wakes pretty early and sometimes she stays in her own room for a while playing, drawing or reading. She always ends up in her mom’s room before getting dressed and having breakfast. She spends her days hanging around the x-men’s mansion playing and hanging out with different people who enjoy her company. In good weather she likes to play outside on her swingset or in her play house, she also enjoys running. 

Bo tends to have her meals at the same times every day when possible. There is times things go down and x-men are called away on missions and feeding Bo at the right time can get looked over while she’s left with some teenagers or adults who are not used to caring for a small child.

She does some schooling every day, during the week at least but because it’s just her and not a whole class of kindergartners it really takes a lot less time for her to learn things than if she was in a class, Kitty usually teaches her, so in a way it’s a little like being home schooled with it being her mother and her being able to make everything fit just right for her. She also learns lots of practical skills and other things from the various adults she lives with.

In the evening she will usually watch some tv or a movie before her bath. In bed Illyana usually reads to her or sometimes if requested sings. Last thing every night Magik creates little firefly like creatures to light up Bo’s room so she is never alone in the dark.

✌ : Fondest role-play memory, between muses?

[ they are so many that i really can’t pinpoint it to the f o n d e s t, but i do definitely have several fond writing memories to be sure! one of my favorites definitely has been creating a period au & an asgardian warrior au for wanda with the fantastic @vaingloriious because our characters connected on every level. the amount of development i was able to put wanda through was something i could have only dreamed of & it gave me an excuse to write with my good friend, ellie! ]

⌘ :Where do you get some of your inspirations for plots/head canons? Offer an example, if possible.

Hmm, I mean, it really varies. I mean plots tend to come after either discussion with another mun, or developed from a certain point that I’d like to know more about, e.g. Pietro and Wanda (AOU) and their childhood, or something like that. I love picking things apart and getting everything very detailed, so that helps too and sometimes inspiration comes from certain parts of a movie, or phrases, or from things I’ve read in the comics or seen for example in XMen Evo. Headcanons, a lot of the time the inspiration comes maybe from a thread, where if something in particular happens and I realise more about the character.

✘ : Any head canons you’d like to imply on you character but know they wouldn’t fit?

That Rachel is generally a maternal person. That she likes kids. She scares children, and that folks is canon. I think she has the potential to be a very openly warm and loving person but when she opens up to people it usually ends bad. Or they die. In the end I wish she was a little more...motherly. Because anyone who has known me longer than ten minutes knows I love that stuff. But it's just not where Rachel is. I don't think she'll ever get there in general, but it is fun to develop that with individual people.
