Okay so I came up with a fic where Buffy has an even worse time than in canon. It's basically a Truman show AU, where the Slayer is the star of a literal tv show for some demonic dimension (tbd). As long as she entertains them, they will leave earth alone. Watchers are meant to make sure there is appropriate drama more than actually support the Slayer, which is why Giles turned a blind eye to Bangel, but he just can't do it anymore after season 2 implodes on them and secretly tells Buffy the truth. And then the rest of the story is about Buffy trying to come to terms with being a glorified court jester and / or finding a way out.

Like I genuinely think it would be humiliating and fuck up with your head. Bringing all the doylist elements into the actual story means she has to ask, is this guy who likes me for real or is he being influenced for ratings? Did my mom get cancer by coincidence, or was it drama created for the show? Is Xander being used as a mouthpiece again?

...If I jump off the tower, the show will move on, and at least my friends and sister are free, right?

But it turns out she's too popular and she gets resurrected, so she can't even die on her own terms.

For Spuffy, I think their season six affair would be painful in a different way. I don't think she would hate herself for sleeping with him, because she got disillusioned about the Slayer gig a long time ago. If they want to see her with him, fine, makes her job a bit easier and at least she can actually blow off some steam with him. Might as well enjoy the sex while it lasts - they'll take it away for drama eventually.

P.s. there's gonna be freedom for her and everyone in the end, I might put her there but I'm not leaving her there.

I think it would be even better if Spike was the one aware of what’s going on but he’s in love so he pretends until he finds out she knows but just accepts her fate and uses him. And she’s then heartbroken he knew all this time but didn’t tell her etc etc ( angsty angst here )

rewatched “Choices” yesterday and can’t stop thinking about the scene with Buffy and Willow in the end when Buffy is all sad and gloomy about the fact she is Sunnydale girl and there’s no way out for her

that she’s stuck in this small CA town fighting evil day and night protecting humanity and there’s no bigger prospects for her

and it only takes 4 years and one bleached blonde vampire to change that

one vampire without a soul who falls in love with a slayer, become her ally and eventually messes up and goes to get his own soul back

gets the soul back, fights the big fight alongside her and sacrifices his own life to destroy her prison

to make Buffy a world girl, the one who is free to live wherever she wants to live

to live.
