“Do you think you’ll have to go soon?” Jupiter questioned against his skin and pulled back to look at him. In hindsight, she probably shouldn’t be asking this right in the middle of a date, but it had been weighing on her mind for the past week or so.

“I know you have to go do your own thing and be a hero, but I’m really going to,” She paused and her eyes flicked down to his chest while she bit her lip. She let out a breath before whispering the final part of her sentence: “miss you.”

   there’s SOMETHING inside of him that    caine’s unfamiliar with rising from the     dark depths within himself as her arms    enveloped him-- it wasn’t LOVE, caine     could sense this time. love, as he had    come to find out, wasn’t as painful as    this. SOMETHING inside of him hurt,    but it wasn’t an internal wound that    plagued the lycantant; no sargorn     could inflict this kind of pain. although    he doesn’t exactly know it yet, caine’s    experiencing HEARTBREAK in its     truest form. but, as with any other    EMOTION, caine stuffs his monsters    back into the basement inside of him,    only allowing a few to display their    true colors through his eyes and     set jaw. 

                   “  the aegis needed another crew                        member. i thought i owed them.  ”

  of course, his explanation could never   be SUFFICE for that internal hurt he’s    feeling && unknowingly inflicting, but    it’s at least an ATTEMPT, uttered softly   into her ear in a voice reserved ONLY    for her. 

                    “ i advise it would be BEST for your                       majesty to lay low from the ‘verse                       for a while.  ”

  no i’ll miss you, toos, no excessive affection--   he’s STILL LEARNING how to display those    sorts of things. but what he DOES do is draw   her in closer, head bowed && pressed to the   side of hers.

Titus eyes lingered towards the lycantant who had now regained his previous glory with those imposing dark wings now attached to his back. It was a look that a parent would give their kids for saying something quite adorable that would make them ‘awww’. But Titus did not ‘awww’ under any circumstance. Caine was there for business and sniffing around for clues to the Aegis and that wasn’t necessarily a social call from the other. Which was all quite amusing for Titus since things were getting a tad boring as of late.

A smirk crossed his lips followed by a shrug from Titus who merely motioned towards one of his stewards to bring him a glass of wine. His lips took a small sip from it, hazel eyes not breaking contact with the lycantant for a while as the silence between them and the tension were so thick, one could cut it with a knife. Wetting his lips, Titus took careful and slow steps towards Caine, his lips finding his way towards the pointy ears of the other. There was no proof. And even if there was, Regen-X was a highly sought product in all parts of the Universe. What was he going to do about it? Shut the production like he had done to Balem’s factory on Jupiter?

              “What of it, Mr. Wise…?”

   whatever growl had been forming in his throat    now EMERGES loud && clear at titus’ approach    and caine lingers ONLY for a few seconds when    his voice RASPS in his ear. with a bow of his head    and a stiffening of his back as his newly reacquired    cyberkinetic wings tuck against his lean frame, caine    takes a step back, accompanying it with an exchanged    GLARE. this is his WARNING -- his promises to titus     had been made under caine’s utter desperation &&     were a product of his dog-like loyalty to the one &     only person that had saved his life in the battlefield.    this, however, is something entirely different. no more    DUTY to the house of abrasax; caine would COWER    to them no longer, and he would HOLD BACK the    lapse in his engineering even less. 

   but that didn’t excuse the fact that caine needed to    ACCOMPLISH something. tearing the royal’s throat    out at the current moment would have little effect in    the grand SCHEME of caine’s investigation-- that    would HAMPER it, he assumes. once regaining a    comfortable distance from titus once more, his     wings spread and tries to make himself bigger,    more INTIMIDATING again. maybe it’s his animal    splicing that gives him this idea. 

                    “ you should’ve STOPPED production                        as soon as your brother’s factory was                        destroyed.  ”

though he’s one fresh & new on the realm, she can’t help but give some courtesy to the being, a hand reaching out in hopes he knew it as a welcoming gesture to shake his hand.

          “Tess, & you are - ? “

                       “ caine wise.  ”

  a SIMPLE return greeting,   the lycantant must admit--   but he’s a man of very little   words, ESPECIALLY in the   presence of someone from   an UNFAMILIAR planet. the   MOST he can do is return    eye contact with her-- a    display of respect. 

                  “ extra defensive measures?                      extended military?  ”

  he inquires with a slightly   quirked brow-- how else    would one REALM be safer   than others?

“I could barely contain my surprise when Famulus told me we had a visitor upon my ship and that said visitor was none other than Mr. Wise. Are you here to aim a gun at my face once more like a barbarian, or does other business bring you to my presence? Maybe a ‘thank you’ for granting you the pardon you sought?”

   under any NORMAL circumstance, caine    would seek the assistance of someone he    held to a far GREATER degree than a    ROYAL who could never stay true to his     word-- and while this isn’t something he’s     PARTICULARLY proud of, he knows that    titus has power-- he has the AUTHORITY    caine seeks in this latest endeavor. and    desperate times call for DESPERATE    measures. nonetheless, weary, suspecting    eyes never leave titus ONCE and there’s a    growl brewing at the back of caine’s throat. 

                     “  ... --i heard rumors that a supply                         of regenX from an unknown source                         is CIRCULATING around the ‘verse.  ”

   caine’s eyes narrow: a WORDLESS i know    you did it.

PSA: my muse is a man of few words -- he is THOUGHTFUL,  introspective, pensive, and he prefers to keep things internal rather than opening up and sharing exactly what’s on his mind. only in rare circumstances is he social, such as in cases of extreme trust / loyalty / friendship. it’s just in his NATURE!! i capture this through writing ELABORATE details instead of extensive dialogue. he may sometimes only have one to two sentences of dialogue in the span of a para reply -- this does NOT mean that i’m disinterested in interacting, it’s just how i interpret his character in the realm of MOST social circumstances. also, please don’t feel the need to match length when i DO write those extensive details; that’s just how i communicate his emotions that i can’t do through dialogue. thank you!!

Jupiter smiled and put a hand on his arm. She felt her eyes widen at the muscle that she felt beneath her fingertips.

Damn.

“You know, as hot as it is for you to call me that, I’d love to hear you call me by my name,” she told him, only a little awkwardly. “In fact, as your Royal Highness, I ask that you call me Jupiter.” She smiled up at him. “So, ha.”

Her stomach gurgled loudly and it caught the attention of some nearby Aegis officers. Jupiter  felt her cheeks heat up in embarrassment. “So, where’s the kitchen? Everyone is staring  at me,” she mumbled, tucking her bangs behind her ear.

   he tenses up if only for a SECOND    at her touch-- a natural instinct of a    man built for WAR. but this isn’t a    moment of combat, and with just     a little amount of time, he finds him-    self RELAXED once again, comfortable.    SAFE. 

                 “ jupiter.  ”

   he says it once, accompanied with    a smile of AMUSEMENT and a low    nod of his head, as though he’s    testing the way it rolls off his tongue.     it’s not as FORMAL as caine would    like, but if it’s what her majesty wants,    then he feels the need to comply. 

   the growl of her stomach && the stares    of the ship’s crew doesn’t phase him in    the slightest, though it does place PRIORITY    on getting her to the dining hall-- so he     starts walking.

               “ follow me, maj--  ”

  he catches himself in the act, quietly   correcting himself. 

              “ this way, JUPITER.  ”

     He knew from experience how well Caine understood the very core of the weapons they utilized. Stinger had never seen a more gifted soldier, nor had he ever found greater pleasure in standing beside that soldier. But there were still open spaces in some of the walls and some plastic poorly taped over the bigger holes; no more playing with guns inside the house. Especially not the touchy ones.

           Stinger scoffed, shoving aside a demolished communications pad with a clatter.

     “The Stinger you knew a long time ago didn’t have to make all those repairs himself.”

     A soft chuckle followed the word domestic; when he had first gotten his command in the Legion, anything that wasn’t flying or fighting was far from his mind.

     And then Kiza had come along and before he knew it, Stinger Apini was more dedicated to being a father than he was to being a Legionnaire. Domesticity had become just as much a second nature as flying had; when he’d lost the one, the other took it’s place and he wasn’t too keen on giving up the peace he found with his daughter… but he did enjoy the return of his wings.

              “The Caine I knew back then wouldn’t have been kissing a queen, either;                                         especially not the recurrence of an Abrasax.”

                      “ i’m surprised you haven’t gotten your                          hands on KEEPER technology yet.                          get one of those... --no more repairs.  ”

   caine teases in return-- he knows the    WAY of the ‘verse && the laws the aegis    execute. keepers aren’t so inclined to     give away their technology to ANYONE    who asked ( in fact, they’re particularly    DIFFICULT to reason with... or even     hunt down ) -- getting ones hands on    it would ONLY mean disposing of the    keeper that wields it. which, if caine    remembers CORRECTLY, would be    considered MURDER under aegis    authority. && the marshal definitely    did NOT escape that authority. 

   there’s a HINT of truth to stinger’s words,     irregardless of whether caine wanted  to    admit to its ACCURACY or not-- but it’s    enough to get a faint smile out of the     lycantant, and his gaze finally shifts from    the aegis rifle.

                     “ maybe i’m getting SOFT.  ”

   he pauses, head lowering as his smile    only widens && a small breath escapes    between his lips-- passable as a LAUGH.     for ONCE in his life, being soft is a good    thing.

♥ – It was a reminder, what she’d worked for, what she’d been able        to do because of it. She pried her eyes off of him, lips pressed        together to hold back the waterfall of words from pouring out of        her mouth. She KNEW it was confusing, it was never expected        for anyone to understand what she thought about everything,        but it made her think. It wasn’t necessarily NOW that she felt that        suffocating feeling of a CAGE, but rather before.                   “ – I know. It’s.. It isn’t exactly what I have NOW. It was a                    long time ago, way before all of this. Before I even joined                    the alliance. It was just… DIFFICULT to explain how even                    all of that, I didn’t have a say or a CHOICE.”

  there’s a SOFT pause-- enough to    allow an unsettling SILENCE to settle   upon the room-- upon HIM. it’s the    beginning of a DAUNTING realization--   of her similarly dark memories and that   his own SAVIOR was fighting her own   demons. that she’s more than just a   poster child for the rebellion. 

                   “  ... --you have choices now.                        then you’re not, as you’ve                       said, a CAGED bird anymore.  ”

Jupiter laughed. She knew that Caine hadn’t meant to make her laugh, but there was something in his words that made her burst into giggles.

“My stomach isn’t royal, Caine,” she told him honestly, smiling up at him. “But really - this food. Is it any less edible than my Aunt Ishka’s breakfast quiche? If not, I’m in. I’ll take anything at this point.”

   a look of MILD confusion flickers    across his features with knit brows    and a tipped head-- had he said    something humorous? he didn’t    believe so..-- but it doesn’t linger    long before dissolving back into    something more characteristic    of a lycantant, something more...    emotionless. though, the corners    of his lips inexplicably remain just    slightly upturned--

                   “  if your majesty says so.  ”

Neytiri followed this space trader through the woods in careful contact. She knew her brothers and sisters were watching. They had come to agreement with other races among those who land, they could have certain attainable resources. In return, the people of pandora would be left alone and out of government documents, simple terms.

An INCOGNITO planet. Neytiri would shoot the man on site if he had any trouble following his set instructions. No fear. NO FEAR.

  his hands RAISE immediately    upon confrontation with the LOCAL   of this planet ( i’m not here to hurt   you )-- a beneficial trick his training   && time in the military had taught    him. he’s a VISITOR, a foreigner,   not a resident. he knows better than   to act as anything more. 

                  “ what i’m looking for doesn’t                       come from the land-- i’m here                      to look for someone... and i                      was HOPING the people of this                      planet could help.  ”

Jupiter grinned and almost giggled at the sound of Caine calling her ‘majesty’ again. It gave her butterflies and made her feel like she was the only person in the room with him. If he kept it up, he’d have to find a crowbar to pry her off of him.

Before she could attach herself to him, her stomach grumbled again and she blushed.

“I’d kill for a cheeseburger,” she mumbled, running a hand through her hair. “But Aegis food will do in a pinch. Okay - lead me to the food!”

    her SMILE is the cause of something     stirring within him-- something LONG     dormant, to the point that he had     forgotten it ever EXISTED. but he      CONCEALS that, for emotion is a      concept unfamiliar to the war born     lycantant. a smile following jupiter’s     with a familiar BOW of his head to     partially hide it is all he allows himself     to display of this FEELING inside; he     hopes it’ll be enough to get the point     across. 

                    “ aegis food CAN be known to                        be... --different than most other                        planets. they’re like scavengers.                        whatever they find, they eat--                         it can be a bit rough on the royal                        STOMACH.  ”

  BLATANT discomfort shines in   the lycantant’s expression at the   constant touching & PRODDING--   something he likely should have   mentally prepared himself for    before landing on a planet devoid   of genome engineered humans,   but HADN’T. as a result, a low    growl from the back of his throat   pierces the air; a hint of WARNING,   perhaps.
