So I think this is where I plan on leaving Crowley. The final version will have a border and more gilding on the staff and hairband. Now back to my old friend Aziraphale and see if he is dry enough to varnish. Egg tempera takes quite some time to dry!
Putting the final touches to Crowley. I'm a little happier with them, as opposed to Aziraphale. Just like Season 2? 🤣

I'm still working on my practice pieces. I am so far happier with Crowley's progress than I was with Aziraphale at a similar stage.
Aziraphale is 'finished' as far as I am concerned right now. I have learnt a lot from my many mistakes. I will definitely change the background colour to more of a blue/grey smoke in my final piece.
I love the green on Crowley's background. The blue will hopefully transition to a Raven black as I continue to layer.
This is kinda finished, other than some gliding I might skip on until the final version. Onto Crowley next!
Making traditional gesso for covering icon boards. Calcium carbonate and rabbit skin glue. Modern acrylic gesso doesn't work with egg tempera paint.
Aziraphale and I are arguing over background colour and aging effects. I think we are nearly finished, apart from final detailing. I also have to remember this is a practice piece and doesn't have to be perfect!
A slight delay in proceedings while waiting for supplies. Sadly nothing I use for Icon painting can be brought locally.
Aziraphale needs patching up around his halo, which is looking spectacular. (It actually looks better when photographed?) Matching the blue paint is already a challenge, but I didn't really like the colour anyway.
Crowley is awaiting his halo, doing the test piece in copper. The final piece is probably going to be gilded in black gold.
Aziraphale and I are getting along a little better. I managed to 'fix' my cat's addition to my work! I am getting to the point where I need to buy more gold leaf. This is an expensive hobby!

Aziraphale is looking rather creepy at this stage. Traditional Icon, using egg tempera and gold leaf.
Aziraphale version 2, annoyingly I need more gold leaf, but his halo still shines brightly! Using pigment and egg tempera.
These are the next steps of my Good Omens Icons. They are painted on plywood boards, traditionally gessoed. Then will be painted using egg tempera and historical pigments. These still aren't the final pieces, so the gilding won't be real gold!
Maybe a starting point for a Femme Crowley Cosplay?
