          dimitri has a large, long haired herding dog named beowulf! he is a companion animal gifted to the prince after the tragedy of duscur, and someone he was able to grow alongside even after enrolling into the officers academy. he also has a big ol’ black clydesdale named signy!! he’s had her since she was a foal, by the time she had been fully grown was when he was a tad more experienced with riding. beowulf often tags along when he & signy go out for long rides. 

after the 5 year timeskip he believes his animal companions to have perished, but both were luckily retrieved after his escape from the capital. beowulf in particular managed to follow him back to garreg mach. he’s one of the few that dimitri is kind with in his broken state.

The prince lets out a sigh. Setting her onto her feet, Dimitri is mindful of the books scattered across the floor. With a moment’s glance, he can see the spine of a rather thick tome sticking out from the shelf Annette had been reaching. That must have been the title she’d intended to borrow. He reaches for the book without any trouble, eyes subtly scanning the cover. 

          ❝ Oh! Here you are. ❞ The prince says, handing her the tome in question, ❝ You really should be more careful. Don’t hesitate to ask for help, Annette. I am rather tall myself, I would not mind getting things down for you. ❞
