A WIP I don't plan to actually progress past this point on:
This was going to be a piece of the three BWs in a personal take on their SG appearance singing Mollie Elizabeth's "Run Rabbit", but I can't bring myself to finish it.
Short explanation: I'm not going to be drawing BW for a while, and I don't know if that'll ever change. His official SG design and description was so personally upsetting that I have genuinely lost care for the character as a whole.
Long explanation: I know I talk a LOT, and I know I can be overly dramatic over small things. I am a grown ass adult, and unless I specifically state that I am being serious about something, I normally say everything I say with a degree of levity or self-aware theatrics. And, despite my teasing tone, I promise that I ALWAYS strive to be aware of what I say and who I say it to.
But, I've decided that I'm going to allow myself this one moment of letting myself be immature and to say something that may upset or offended others. Please know that you do not have to agree with or respect my opinion, just that it is my own, and it's not changing anytime soon:
Seeing how BW is portrayed in the official upcoming T.F.A. SG comic is such a profound bastardization of what I loved about his established character - and the lore around him - that I do not enjoy content of him anymore.
I recognize that my opinion is fundamentally unkind and entitled compared to that of other fans of the character in the upcoming comic, and I do honestly envy that they can enjoy him in the SG comics by simply taking him as he is. However, I myself just can't, and I have already vented to three separate friends I BONDED OVER OUR SHARED LOVE OF THE ORIGINAL CHARACTER WITH about how I loathe what SG BW's depiction means for how his own creators see his character. It was one thing when it was just the atrocious color design, which itself actually inspired me to try my own attempts at a SG BW design-
-but, following the official description of his SG self along with the final SG design, I just can't put myself in the necessary headspace to enjoy any of it.
The color choices, the flattening of character, the prioritization of subversion over good writing, and the retconning of their own lore?!?
Yeah, no, the character I loved for how he could be added onto is now of no interest to me because his official creators instead removed the few things he was firmly established to be.
But who am I to decide what they do with their own character and story, after all?
Months back, I was telling my sister about my disappointment in how the second season of a show had gone compared to what I had hoped to see following season one. In words I hope to never forget, she told me "then the show wasn't made for you". She explained that she wasn't trying to tell me that my opinion was wrong, but simply that the reason I was disappointed in the show was because it wasn't going to be what I WANTED it to be, and thereby was not "made for me".
And that's how I feel at present about BW. I have avoided tagging this post with his name and have abbreviated it in the text so that it doesn't appear in searches, because I don't have to go shoving my unfavorable opinion down the throats of people who just want to see content of BW on this site while I'm out here directly expressing my discontent.
The character I wanted him to be from what the original creators had given us is no longer the character I enjoy with how those creators have shown their own understanding of him.
I am genuinely sorry to anyone this disappoints. I will respond to the Asks and fan art that have built up in my Inbox over the next few days and then take a looooooong breather from the giant, fictitious, alien robot-jet-tank.
