So I drew Kayleigh Kitson because why not!
Car Share is back!
This isn’t a post I thought I’d be writing any time soon, and I’m not sure how many people still frequent this little corner of CS Tumblr, but Car Share is coming back for an audio only episode.
It was announced yesterday on Peter’s Twitter account:
It’ll be available to listen to on iPlayer on Friday 10th April at 7PM. More info can be found in the British Comedy Guide article [here].
Personally, I think it’ll be a lot like Unscripted. I don’t think we’ll see much in terms of plot or where John and Kayleigh are at in their lives at this point. If they did ever decide to do an episode about Rick and Donna’s wedding for example ( which I’m still really, really hoping for 🤞 ) I think they’d save it for a full-length televised episode. Also, the BCG article mentions that this time last week, this audio episode didn’t exist. Maybe spontaneously deciding to write for John and Kayleigh again could convince Peter and Sian to bring Car Share back for a full-length special sometime in the future.
If anyone still goes here, let me know what you think. I miss this little fandom. Hope everyone is staying safe and staying at home if possible. :)
Pretty much my thoughts summed up! I think it’ll just be a slice-of-life return of a typical day with conversation not following a particular plot. Would I love little hints about their relationship, the casual things that distinguish friends from partners? Sure! But I’m just happy we’re getting more from them, and like Amy said - maybe it’ll inspire and encourage more from Peter & co.
I was thinking it could be something around Rick and Donna’s wedding just because the only other thing I could think that something new a Car Share episode could revolve around is finally seeing them working together on the Christmas team which obviously wouldn’t make sense coming out now.
But it would make sense to save Rick and Donna’s wedding for if they ever did another TV episode.
I’m interested to find out how much the music from Forever FM will be involved in the story just because it didn’t exist a week ago and I’m sure I remember them saying that the music was always the longest part of each episode to find songs that could work into what is happening in the story.
It could be a day or two after the last episode and just a normal journey to and from work. But whatever it is I’m just happy that it’s happening!
Sorry I’ve only just seen this! Looks like you were right, @fluffydrunkkayleigh: It could be a day or two after the last episode.
I think it’s pretty much a certainty this wasn’t set long after the finale - a couple of weeks at most. And still no mention of Rick and Donna’s wedding. 100% sure this will persuade Peter and Sian to do more. It felt like no time at all had passed hearing them as John and Kayleigh again.
I'd just like to start by saying I've bloody missed rushing to my laptop after new Car Share content to write down every single thought in my brain while still in a haze of 'that was perfect'. It’s been a while so I might be a bit rusty.
Let's go:
Most of my thoughts center around the first couple of minutes of the episode. Straight away, Love Is In The Air is playing on Forever FM - and love is definitely in the air for John and Kayleigh... because they're exclusive, and doesn't John know it. (Can we just talk about Kayleigh kissing him when she gets in the car, I melted.)
I was so happy about those few lines. I said in my [previous post] I didn't expect anything in terms of plot or where they're at in their lives, so to get this in just the first few minutes was amazing. Just with this little snippet of dialogue we know their relationship is still quite new: I'm assuming this a couple of weeks after the finale. This means all of my personal headcanons about how their relationship progresses still stand which I'm buzzing about.
I think Peter and Sian going to the effort of establishing John and Kayleigh's status and making it clear when this is set is important. (The kids are the same age, John still has a replacement door that's the wrong colour on the car - fresh from the crash, and the dialogue I mentioned). It wasn't just a throwaway sketch like I expected, it felt like a small step forward in the plot. And again, has left it open for us to wonder: what happens next? With the established timeline, we know Rick and Donna haven't had their wedding yet. The wedding discussed in extreme detail in the finale. Interesting.
Also: It was piss funny, as usual. I watched with my dad, and after the initial shock of 'oh my god we're actually watching (listening to) Car Share again' wore off, we were crying with laughter throughout. It was so nice to hear all the familiar adverts and it just felt so right to be back in the car with John and Kayleigh again. This series definitely hasn't run out of steam yet as far as I'm concerned.
As usual, please let me know what you think. I still love discussing this show and I know not many of us are on here now but I’m on [Twitter] too.
And I'd like to finish by mentioning we recently lost a much loved member of our little fandom, Rob Daly. This last shot brought a tear to my eye. Rest in peace, Rob.
So. New Car Share content (audio) in 2 days. Guess this blog will be kicking back into action, yeah?
Sit tight. Who’s excited!? 🚗
We’re baaaaaaaaaaack!

The Project quote compilation
It’s been a while and it’s nice to have an easy way to remind yourself that one day (hopefully soon) we’ll get something new from Peter and Sian. So here’s all the quotes I could find on the mystery project of lore:
Love that people are going to get the ‘peterkayscarshare/lyricaldanceflap posted for the first time in a while’ notification and think there’s been an announcement or something. Unfortunately not - this is purely about reassuring ourselves that we didn’t imagine Peter and Sian say they were working together again because it’s been AGES since anything else has been said about it.
Today marks 1 year since I saw the Car Share finale for the first time in Blackpool. I can’t believe it’s been a year, it feels like so much longer. I still think about this show every day and I miss this little corner of Tumblr a lot.
I remember rushing back to the hotel at nearly midnight and writing down as much as I could remember (that’s why I got the timeline a bit wrong, haha).
Still holding onto a tiny bit of hope that we haven’t seen the last of John and Kayleigh but if we have I’ll always treasure their happy ending. ❤️
Car Share Valentines Day cards, enjoy.
Bringing these back for another year. Happy Valentines Day, CS people! 💖
Car Share wins the NTA for Best Comedy 2019
Just thought I’d try and gather some of the press about the win together in one handy place.
