The Sick Rose by WILLIAM BLAKE
O Rose thou art sick.
The invisible worm,
That flies in the night
In the howling storm:
Has found out thy bed
Of crimson joy:
And his dark secret love
Does thy life destroy.

Be Beautiful, Noble, Like the Antique Ant by Jose Garcia Villa
Be beautiful, noble, like the antique ant, Who bore the storms as he bore the sun, Wearing neither gown nor helmet, though he was archbishop and soldier: Wore only his own flesh Salute characters with gracious dignity: Though what these are is left to Your own terms. Exact: the universe is Not so small but these will be found Somewhere. Exact: they will be found Speak with great moderation: but think With great fierceness, burning passion: Though what the ant thought No annuals reveal, no his descendants Break the seal. Trace the tracelessness of the ant, Every ant has reached this perfection. As he comes, so he goes, Flowing as water flows, Essential but secret like a rose.
Moonlight on Manila Bay By Fernando M. Maramag
A light, serene, ethereal glory rests Its beams effulgent on each crestling wave; The silver touches of the moonlight wave The deep bare bosom that the breeze molests; While lingering whispers deepen as the wavy crests Roll with weird rhythm, now gay, now gently grave; And floods of lambent light appear the sea to pave- All cast a spell that heeds not time‘s behests.
Not always such the scene; the din of fight Has swelled the murmur of the peaceful air; Here East and West have oft displayed their might; Dark battle clouds have dimmed this scene so fair; Here bold Olympia, one historic night, Presaging freedom, claimed a people‘s care.
Lyric 17 by Jose Garcia Villa
First, a poem must be magical, Then musical as a sea-gull. It must be a brightness moving And hold secret a bird’s flowering. It must be slender as a bell, And it must hold fire as well. It must have the wisdom of bows And it must kneel like a rose. It must be able to hear The luminance of dove and deer. It must be able to hide What it seeks, like a bride. And over all I would like to hover God, smiling from the poem’s cover.

Mana Biben when the woman asked her a random question:
Kaya pa sis?
Of Fish, Flies, Dogs and Women
This story emphasizes the pain of a battered wife and foretold her experience unto Mana Biben when she entered the house of Attorney Sabate and saw his daughter named Angela. At first, I was really confused about the title and how it was related to the story and upon reading the first 3 paragraphs but then realized that it tackles the symbols of the story. After knowing the pain of the two women, I was really thumped by their experience and realized that a woman can really understand her co-women. In the other hand, the fish probably symbolizes the life that people are taking risk, that no matter how fierce a dog is (which symbolizes the tough experiences that human are facing), we are still able to conquer it. Lastly, women symbolizes the women through the circumstances that they had to face and how they are now, then the flies might be a symbolic of death that no matter what happen, we will all lead to it.
Touchmove
After reading the story, I came to realized that everyone has different perceptions about things. Not all men are the same but still there are quite few who can prove it. Women must be respected, no matter what happen because we are equal and there's no way that a woman must be disrespected through verbal or even physical abuse. This story emphasizes the pain that a woman could get from the guy who doesn't know how to respect a lady. Thus, the story is a great privilege to enlighten the minds of the people that a woman is not just a woman but a woman should be respected in any ways a person could do.
The Use of Force
This story portrays how people differently reacts on the things when force is being use. I understand why the doctor aimed to use force unto the child for if he won't do it, the child could suffer more from the disease. We, humans sometimes are hard to be encouraged through soft spoken words and be we tend to be hard headed on the situations that were facing. The story reminds us that the use of force is not always a bad thing to do but it depends on the circumstances. We should always think and act for the common good.
21st Century Literature
When we had our class in 21st Century Literature during my Senior high, I've learned different stories, poets and stuff of the Filipino authors in different regions of the Philippines. We were able to define the elements of the story and its moral lessons. Also, we were able to know the discrepancies of how a writer or an an author produces stories in a way that they evince their style of writing. In line with this, Filipino writers truly deserve to be acknowledged because of the creativity that they executes in writing. This definitely proves that Philippines culture is such a rich and unique kind of culture.
