Just a few short weeks ago Ohio State backup quarterback, Tate Martell wanted all the smoke. He sent subliminal, cryptic tweets that seemed to be directed towards Justin Fields, advising him not to swing and miss on his second try. Martell later followed up such spicy sentiments by issuing statements after the Buckeyes Rose Bowl win that he was “100%” confident he would named the starter if current, record breaking, quarterback, Dwayne Haskins were to declare for the NFL draft. He went on to say, "why would I leave for someone who hasn't put a single second into this program yet? I've put two years of working my ass off for something that I've been waiting for and dreaming of having my whole life."
Well, fast forward just a mere 2 weeks or so and Martell in fact was not here for the smoke. Within days of Fields arriving on The Ohio State campus, and Haskins declaring for the NFL, Martell enterer his name into the NCAA transfer portal. In October 2018, the NCAA changed transfer rules which would as a result allow for student athletes to discuss opportunities with other programs without facing being blocked by their current school.
5 days after entering his name to the portal, not to my surprise, Martell announced he would be taking his talents down to south beach and joining the Miami Hurricanes.
So much for not leaving, huh Tate??

For those like myself who were excited to see Justin Field and Tate Martell in a head to head competition for the QB1 position now that Dwayne Haskins has officially announced that he will declare for the NFL draft, unfortunately it looks like we ultimately may be in for a disappointment as Martell has entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal.
Reportedly three teams have emerged as the favorites for potential transfer, Louisville, West Virginia, and Miami. While Martell is expected to visit all three schools in the up coming week. Based on his recent Twitter activity though, something tells me he has his eye set on Miami.
What a whirlwind of a start to the New Year it has been for the Buckeyes!
Fresh off a win at the Rose Bowl 🌹🌹🌹, Coach Meyer handed the whistle off to Coach Day, literally. In his first week, Coach Day made moves and savagely rang out shots heard around the world (or maybe just Buckeye Nation).
In reevaluating the Ohio State football staff after the worst statistical season in school history, Ryan Day wiped the defensive coaching staff slate clean. Ohio State found itself all too gladly parting ways withAlex Grinch who left for Oklahoma, and both Greg Schiano and Bill Davis who are headed back to the NFL. Coach Day filled the defensive spots with a combination of respected veterans and up and coming talent. However what is most impressive is that in making Ohio State better in stronger, he also delivered a direct blow and weakened the rival up north by stealing not one but TWO members of their staff, Greg Mattison and Al Washington.
Oh, and lets not forget that Ryan Day also landed the most highly recruited player in school history in quarterback transfer Justin Fields. Which positions the Buckeyes for yet another interesting quarterback competition come Spring!
Thanks @urbanmeyer for an amazing 7 years. Gonna miss you on the sidelines but excited to see your accomplishments as Assistant AD! #BuckeyeNation #UrbanLegend #BetterLateThanNever 🌰🌰 https://www.instagram.com/p/BsmYUw9lPUO/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=41056391ihqo
On Sunday evening Ohio State running back, Mike Weber announced on Twitter that he will forfeit his last year of remaining eligibility and will enter the 2019 NFL draft. Weber, like Senior Dre’mont Jones who also this week announced he will enter the draft, will be playing in the Rose Bowl to finish what the brotherhood started at the beginning of the season, and to send Coach Meyer off with a win.

Urban Legend
What an emotional day for Buckeye Nation!
There are not words to describe what it felt like to immediately upon waking up on this gloomy and overcast morning learn the news that our beloved coach, Urban Meyer has announced his retirement. Despite weeks, and maybe even months of speculation, this still came as a shock. I, like many, thought (hoped) we had at least one more year with the man, the myth, the legend. It has now been a good 12 hours since learning the news and honestly, I’m still working on processing it. So for now, I will simply say thank you for an amazing 7 years and you will be missed!
