one of the million things i really loved about Moana was that she starts off being totally prepared to be chief?? like within the first 15 mins of the movie, she’s ready to go. and not even in an overzealous way that needs correction. she’s completely naturally capable and her people love her and she has great ideas and teaches her customs to the younger kids and learns from her dad and ultimately she even wants to be chief. i feel like in so many movies, especially disney ones, they have the main character’s arc revolve around becoming a better version of themselves so they can learn to lead or love or understand responsibility or whatever. but no, Moana doesn’t need any of that. and that’s just AMAZING. cause her journey gets to be about realizing that the call she’s trying to heed is actually a strength inside her that she should embrace!!! because it doesn’t detract from her being a leader, it actually enhances it and connects her more to her past and her ancestors and gives her a confidence in her choices and adskl;fjkdals;fjkl;dasf I JUST WANT TO SCREAM, I REALLY LOVED MOANA???

Moana helping the turtle as a child was a metaphor for how the ocean helped her throughout the film.

Moana didn’t pick up the turtle and carry it to the ocean, which would have been easiest for the both of them. She protected the turtle and let it make the journey itself. Because it was important that the turtle got to the ocean on its own.

This is why the ocean chose Moana. Even at a young age, she understood why the turtle needed to make its own journey.

Throughout the film, the ocean guides and protects her along the way, but it most certainly does not carry her to return the heart of the sea. It is important for Moana to make the journey by herself. She needs to fight her own battles, endure her own hardships, and forge her own path so she may become stronger.

I know your problems aren’t relevant to me--I wouldn’t “get it” or relate to it personally because it doesn’t affect me directly--so you feel like you can’t talk about them with me or anyone--but I’m here for you anyway and I hope your situation improves soon.

So I noticed a lot of you were feeling sad this week or in general lately and you shut down or stop talking as much as you used to–to anyone altogether. I don’t know if you’ll read this now, tonight, or later when you randomly wander to my blog–but I promise I’m here if you need anything I can provide–and here if you just need to say something to get it off your chest–and here.

I’m just here and there are absolutely no conditions you have to meet–esp. none you failed—to “maintain” our friendship. Friendship is like wine–it’s all good.

So you don’t recognize yourself anymore? Stuff you used to do and stuff you used you like–none of it interests you anymore and that bothers you because that was the ‘you’ everybody knew. Now you feel like a stranger and it looks impossible to pick back up where you started. You don’t know where to begin. You have to start from scratch–from the beginning, and that distance scares the $%&* out of you–so you don’t even want to begin to try.

Don’t expect to stay the same forever. You’re a human being and things change. The world–it turns. And, you better believe it–it can change for the better but sometimes like a sketch it looks crappy at first. Work on yourself for as long as you need to–you need to take care of yourself. There is no race. It’s not about what other people think. If you don’t feel good, you don’t feel good. Let’s be realistic–there’s no magic button or switch to flip “I’m okay” back on. It takes time and you have time. Trust me.
