#Repost @alice.rawsthorn with @repostapp ・・・ Designing for Art - 3. Covering the walls of a part of a derelict gin distillery with gold leaf was surprisingly cheap, according to Rem Koolhaas. It also created a gentle spectacle on the campus of the site's new occupant, the Fondazione Prada contemporary art centre in Milan. The gold leaf was applied by hand, and its motley surface contrasts smartly with the complex, digitally plotted forms of the aluminium foam cladding the newly built galleries beside it. The golden walls also play with the light, glowing in different shades as it changes during the day, and smouldering under electric light at night. Since opening eighteen months ago, Fondazione Prada has injected sorely needed energy into Milan, establishing itself as a beacon of the contemporary art scene, where people go to meet friends in Wes Anderson's inspired Bar Luce, as well as to see the shows.
