“we are. i feel like we always have been.” he smiled as he looked at her. “sometimes your head and your heart know what’s the right thing to do. rarely, but it happens.” he laughed, playing with the ends of her hair when she laid down in his lap. “no way, it would be more of a hobble than a chase. there’s no way it would be at all romantic.” he laughed.
"i feel like we always have been too." she grinned.she laughed, closing her eyes when he played with the ends of her hair, "well, i'm glad it knew the right thing to do for once," she spoke softly. she laughed, "it would be the thought that counted," she grinned, taking his hand and playing with his fingers.

“exactly.” he nodded, smiling at her when she turned to look at him. “for sure. that’s like, my life motto. sometimes it’s best to wait, good stuff can come along where you least expect it.” he shrugged, smiling when she kissed his cheek. “well yeah, but you didn’t have to listen. so thank you.” he nodded. “you saved me from having to chase you down the hallway.” he laughed, pushing his hair behind his ear.
"and we're each others good stuff," she said softly. it was true. he was good for her, and it helped that he knew what made her tick, what made her happy, and what made her sad. the important things. she shrugged her shoulders, "eh. it's kinda hard when your head and your heart are telling you the same thing," she teased. she moved down on the couch so she could lay her head in his lap and laughed, "i mean if you want to chase me down the hallway, you still could,"

benji was just about to get up to convince her to stay when she smiled and turned back to him. “yeah, of course.” he nodded, sighing when she said she’d stay. he let go of her wrist and took her hand instead, interlocking their fingers as she sat down. “it does.” he nodded. “so should i, but i guess all the stuff that happened needed to happen to get us here.” he shrugged, “i’m just glad we did end up here, even if it took too long.” he laughed quietly, giving her hand a light squeeze when she laid against his shoulder. “i’m glad you stayed.” he said softly, his voice just barely above a whisper.
she cringed at the mention of everything that happened lead them here. "from having people who did us dirty to each other.." she glanced over at him, grin in place. she couldn't wipe the smile off her face as she looked down at their interlocked fingers and nodded her head, "i'm glad we did too. better late than never right?" she smiled, raising her head slightly to kiss his cheek, "i am too,not to mention you asked me to."

“no it’s not.” he shook his head, trying not to react at the mention of micah, benji had always hated the guy for what he’d done to maddie, and it usually took just the mere thought of him to get benji riled up. he looked over to her and wiped a lone tear from her cheek with his thumb. “it’s not stupid at all, maddie.” he started, sighing when she stood up. he reached out to grab her wrist, it probably wasn’t the smartest option, but it was the first thing he could think of since it would take him longer to actually get up. “please don’t leave– you’re not going to ruin anything, i love you too. i have for as long as i can remember. i never said anything because there was never a right time, but i do, and i always have. please, just… stay here.”
she stayed silent but just nodded her head. she flashed a small smile feeling his thumb along her cheek. when he grabbed her wrist, she turned, though her head was saying she was stupid and needed to leave then and there, but her heart, was telling her to stay. please. how could she say no? a smile graced her features, eventually growing into a probably completely dorky and idiotic grin. "y-yeah?" she asked, and nodded her head, "i'll stay." she spoke softly, sitting down next to him again, turning to face him, and kissed him. "you know, saying it sounds nice. i mean, i should have done it years ago," she smiled, resting her head on his shoulder.

just as he was about to argue with her claim to eleven percent, she started talking again, this time with a different tone that caught his attention. he turned to look at her, nodding when she announced she was going to say something stupid, keeping quiet so she wouldn’t have an excuse to stop talking. he wasn’t sure what to expect, but whatever he thought she’d say, he was totally wrong. he’d imagined this moment a dozen times, but none of the ones he’d thought of could even compare to how he felt in the moment. he didn’t know what to say at first, but immediately shook his head when she apologized. “why are you apologizing?”
"because that was probably the dumbest thing i could have possibly done." she bit her lip and shook her head,wiping away the fresh tears that pooled in her eyes. "this isn't what i do. i don't just get figuratively naked for people. not...not after micah. i can't. but sitting here with you...this is what i want. as long as i am with you, i'm content. i feel like i should go because i don't want to ruin this.." her voice trailed off as she stood from the couch and bent down to kiss his cheek. "i'll bring you steak tomorrow before i head home, okay?"

“thank you?” he laughed, shaking his head slowly. “you’re a goof, there’s no way there’s ten percent of normal in there.” he laughed, poking her temple lightly. “there’s like, seven percent maximum.”
"you're welcome, peaches," she winked. she laughed, shaking her head, "no, you're insane. i lied. there's 11%," she said with a simple shrug of her shoulders. "h-hey benji.." she spoke softly. "i um..i'm going to be stupid for a second here. i um.." she let out a deep breath, running her fingers through her hair. "i um..i love you. like you're not just my best friend, you're the person i want to spend the rest of my life with, the totally cliche love of my life and you have been for the past year and i..i know this is crazy and stupid and probably pointless but..there it is..." her voice trailed off and she swallowed the lump that formed in her throat. "i'm sorry.."

“maybe i wouldn’t have to if you weren’t poking my face.” he laughed. “…fine.” he sighed, knowing it would be pointless to try and argue with her. “well, as long as you know.” he laughed. “i just don’t want you trying to let yourself believe you’re normal when you’re obviously not.” he smirked.
she pouted, "but i like your face." when he didn't argue, she let out a sig of relief. "thank you." she spoke softly. "i am normal to a certain degree, okay? like 10% normal versus your 3.2%" she teased."but i will happily accept your 3.2."

“please don’t.” he laughed softly, batting he hand away when she poked his face. “i’m the what?” he asked, looking over just as she kissed him. he laughed as he pulled away, hoping that wasn’t her way of avoiding what she was about to say. “thank you. but so are you, so don’t try and pretend you’re not.”
"no sir. don't bat me away, mister." she laughed. she let out a sigh and shook her head, a smile gracing her features, "it's not important." it was important. to her at least. but for now, it would have to wait. she laughed, shaking her head, "i never said i wasn't. i pride myself in it, benji."

“what exactly are you gonna do about it if i don’t?” micah raised his eyebrow once again and chuckled, “ooh i’m reaaaal scared. i’m practically shakin in my boots.” he rolled his eyes, “why the hell would i have any reason to make you jealous? maybe i came over to talk to you to make my lovely friend over there jealous?” a small smirk appeared across his lips, “okay, that wouldn’t be the first time someone wished my death. but the thing is, you can’t kill the unkillable. and i am unkillable, darling.” he retorted, “though please please do try so i can insure my lawyers are properly notified.” his smirk grew as he spoke.
maddie laughed, "right, okay. well you failed in that task because you're not that great and any girl who decides to give you the time of day is the biggest fucking idiot on the planet...and yes, myself included." she rolled her eyes and shook her head, "god you're so full of shit micah. don't fuck with a girl who carries around a pocketknife because i will use it. so keep it up, you might want to inform your bullshit lawyers. and if you think pulling the lawyers card scares me, you’re gonna have to try a lot harder next time"

micah chuckled, raising an eyebrow, “nah, i have no reason to stop. as for the energizer bunny comment, you would know wouldn’t you?” he smirked, winking at the blonde. he scratched his eyebrow and laughed, “who said i was trying to make you jealous, princess? not everything is about you.” the male rolled his eyes and licked his lips, “well, damn. congrats on him still being alive then?”
maddie rolled her eyes, "god, shut the fuck up." she smirked, taking a step towards him, "call me princess again and i will gut you like a fish. do not try me. if you think i'd believe you for a second that you aren't trying to make me jealous, you are dumber than i thought." she chuckled. "you know, him being alive makes me so happy. but i would get the most joy out of the situation being reversed and you not being nearly as lucky. i'm keeping my fingers crossed."
