Gray really did miss Maddy’s friendship and perhaps even more than the blonde did. For him to just drop all forms of contact with her like that was wrong and he knew that but at the time, it was really the only thing he could do. Okay, so maybe Grayson had a tiny crush on Maddy when he was younger and maybe Grayson was a bit jealous when Maddy got a boyfriend but that didn’t mean anything, right? As Maddy and her boyfriend became official, Gray knew that their friendship wasn’t going to last very long. There was only time until the blonde cut him out of her life completely, since he wasn’t going to be the only guy in her life anymore. The guy didn’t really seem like the type for Maddy anyways and Grayson wasn’t about to get into the middle of that. Gray was always the type to simply separate himself from the issue instead of trying to meddle. Maddy would probably accuse him of ruining her relationship anyways so that would have been a recipe for disaster.

"Fine," he said, nodding once as the corners of his lips quirked up into a smile. He didn’t understand why the blonde made such a big deal about hanging out with him but at least she said yes, right? He just had to hope that this whole thing wouldn’t be so awkward. At least it was only a movie so that meant little talking had to be done. The male had to admit, even though he had expected to watch a movie with his cousin, he was grateful for the unexpected change of plans. This might be the one time that running into someone at the movie theaters worked out for his favor. As she began walking towards the ticket booth, the boy followed behind, his eyes looking up at the board that features the films that were showing. His attention was brought to Maddy as she groaned, his hand reaching for his wallet in the process. "She did?" he asked, realizing that this was all part of Brad’s plan. She really did work everything out actually. "Well she told me that I was going to pay for her, so I guess I’ll pay for you," he said with a small smile. "What do you want to watch?" he asked, looking over at the blonde.

"No, but-..." Maddy began, before cutting herself off. She was being difficult, she knew that. However, the least she could do was manage to be decent or the rest of the night. She wasn't glad that he was paying or her, since she was the type to usually pay for herself. She didn't like to feel dependent on anyone else. Though, with the lack of money on her and her previous agreement to join Gray for a movie, there wasn't much else she could do but accept his offer to pay for her. "Okay. Um..." The blonde looked up at the board, her blue eyes scanning the list of movies currently playing. "I guess something... funny? Since, most of the other options are romantic, and that's not happening." She said with a shrug and a small laugh.

Once they bought their tickets, they made their way into the lobby of the movie theater. As they were passing the concession stands, the conversation she'd had with Brad popped into her head, where the other blonde had promised to buy her snacks - specifically her favorite, Buncha Crunch. However, Maddy would bite her tongue before letting Gray pay for yet another thing tonight. Either way, she knew she would be paying him back for the ticket the next time they saw each other in school.

Grayson’s and Maddy’s friendship was a bit weird as of late actually and Gray took full blame for it. All he wanted to do was go back to the way how things used to be between them but that came across as wrong for Maddy. She would just act like pulling teeth out was better than talking to him and he didn’t understand what he did wrong. Of course he was the one that indirectly ended their friendship but he has a good reason for that. That reason was something Maddy couldn’t ever know but it was still a valid reason. He didn’t have many friends aside from a few guys from the lacrosse team and even they didn’t really count because Gray couldn’t stand half of them most of the time. Maddy was the one person who understood his dark humor and hatred for everyone who was annoying. They were literally one and the same which is why they made the perfect pair of best friends. Too bad their friendship didn’t look like it was ever going to be the same again.

Gray started feeling a bit awkward when his eyes met hers and that was saying something since that usually never happened. The male couldn’t help it though since after his last two attempts to talk to the blonde, he was either pushed away or spoken to like a stranger. He was starting to feel like Maddy didn’t want anything to do with him and he didn’t understand why. “Um, yeah she did. She told me to meet her here for eight.” The male’s eyes surveyed the crowd looking for Brad but couldn’t spot her. She probably thought it was funny for her to set him and Maddy up like this and as much as Gray wanted to get mad at his cousin, he couldn’t because she tried her best to make the two friends hang out. “No, wait—” Gray racked his brain for an appropriate way to invite her to watch a movie with him without sounding forceful or desperate. “Since we’re here already, do you want for me and you to watch a movie? I mean, I’m already here at the movie theater so I might as well do something,” he said in a nonchalant fashion.

Maddy was fully aware of the fact that she had been pushing Gray away. It was a defense mechanism she used on everyone, not solely him. After the accident, she refused to let anyone near her again, fearing losing another person who was important to her. After Gray disappeared from her life, she accepted the fact that chances were she would never know the reason behind his actions. If he didn't want to be a part of her life at the time, then fine. However, she was confused and irritated by the fact that he suddenly chose to approach, with obvious attempt to return to the way things had been. It wouldn't be that simple, though. She never got over how, when she needed him the most, he hadn't been there for her.

Before Maddy was able to turn and leave, Gray spoke up again. Facing him once more, she crossed her arms over her chest and looked him straight in the eye. Squinting slightly, she took in the taller figure that stood directly in front of her. What did he want from her? Wasn't it obvious that she didn't care to follow in his lead and fix their friendship? Her mouth was one step ahead of her brain, though, for while her mind was set on declining his offer, out of her mouth slipped a small sigh, followed by a mumbled "Fine". Her own response had caught her off guard, though she didn't want him to realize that. Instead, she cleared her throat and reiterated her response. "Fine. We'll watch a movie. But, it's only because I'm already here." The blonde said with a lick of the lips, a nervous habit of hers, before making her way straight to the ticket booth. Once she was there, not turning around to check if he had followed her, she began patting her pockets, only to come to the realization that she had left her money at home. A small groan escaped her throat, and although she had yet to check for Gray's presence, she spoke up. "Well, Brad told me she was going to pay for me since she dragged me out here, so I don't have any money to buy my ticket. If you really feel like watching a movie, then I guess I can drive back home and get my wallet."

Grayson wasn’t one to go to the movies. He saw no point in it. Usually whenever he went to the cinemas, he always managed to run into someone at school. That was the downside in living in a small down like Newport—there was no way of going somewhere without seeing someone from school. And everyone knew that Grayson hated majority of the North Ridge population so he wasn’t exactly thrilled by this unexpected rendezvouses. The only reason why he agreed to go to the dumb movies anyways was because Brad invited him. They’ve always been close—practically siblings—so the boy was incapable of saying no to the sister he never had.

Getting ready in casual clothing that consisted of a pair of jeans and a t shirt, the male checked the time on his phone. He wasn’t really caught up in time or appearance because it was just Brad. The girl and him were cousins so there was no use in trying to impress her or anything. Texting the blonde that he was leaving his house soon, Gray prayed that she got there on time as Brad did have the tendency to be late almost always. Although it as probably a girl thing for one to be late so often. Getting into his car, the boy drove to the theaters which took all of ten minutes. Just proved what a small town Newport was, honestly. Walking up to the ticket booth, oceanic orbs scanned the room for the blonde to only find another familiar blonde—Maddy. Maddy was actually one of the few exceptions Gray had at North Ridge since the two of them went way back. Childhood best friends would be the correct term although their friendship kind of faded a bit over the past two or three years ago. Shoving his hands into his pockets, the male approached the blonde. “Uh, hey, Mads. Did you see Brad?” he asked, curiously since he knew that the two were close friends.

A sigh escaped Maddy's lips as she waited for Brad to finally arrive. Slowly, she came to the realization that maybe she shouldn't have agreed to come. Just like the party, Brad most likely ditched her. The blonde continued glancing down at her phone, waiting to see a new text or phone call from the girl. However, there was nothing. As she contemplated whether she should simply leave or not, a familiar voice sounded beside her. It was deep, soft - It was Grayson's. Raising her head, she met her piercing blue eyes with his. This was an unexpected surprise. Yet, somehow, she knew that from the feeling in the pit of her stomach, Brad was behind this not-so-coincidental meeting.

"Oh, Gray... I- No. I haven't seen her." The blonde spoke softly, clearing her throat before continuing. "She was supposed to meet me here for a movie. But, let me guess... She told you the same thing?" She asked with a raise of and eyebrow, before looking around once more. She didn't need to ask, since she already knew the answer. Brad had been trying to get Maddy to talk about Gray and dwell into the past for the last week, much to her curiosity. It was suspicious, but the blonde had decided not to worry about it. It was most likely just Brad being nosy, like she had always been while they were growing up. "I should probably go." She mumbled as she stood up, stuffing her phone into her back pocket.

For some reason, Bradleigh had a new mission, which revolved around trying to drag Maddy out whenever she could. In the last few days, she had already managed to drag her to some party, which in Maddy's opinion, had turned out to be a massive waste of time, just as she knew it would be. Yet, somehow Brad had convinced Maddy to go to the movies with her. No matter how much she tried to decline her offer, the girl simply wouldn't say know. After a quick shower, Maddy slowly got ready for the night. Considering it would only be Brad and her, she wasn't going to dress to impress. Not as if she ever did, anyway. With a lack of motivation, she slipped into a pair of jeans, a large white blouse, and a pair of black boots. She ran a brush quickly through her hair, so to not appear like she'd just woken up, and pushed it all to one side. Grabbing her phone from off the table, she stuffed it into her back pocket and made her way out the door. Once in the car, it didn't take long to arrive at the theater. Assuming they would meet in front of the ticket booth, Maddy made her way over to one of the benches nearby, waiting for Bradleigh to show up.
