While shopping at the department store, Von Maur, I came across this interesting display. The store is set up in the racetrack style display I saw mentioned in the Retail Marketing program video. This telephone booth display fits in with the racetrack theme because it pulls the customers in to come look at it, then while they walk back to the main circle, the customer passes more merchandise. The display is compelling due to three main reasons. First, the display uses the leading lines of the floor to draw a customer’s line of sight to the display. Next, the attention getting color of red stands out around the dark merchandise and plain, light walls. Finally, the shape of a telephone booth is an unusual spotting in the United States and makes customers like myself want to get a closer look at what is inside. The display is clever and works extremely well in the small space.
Instagram is my preferred social media platform. I found a website, Iconosquare, to help me discover my audience. The website has great tools for finding statistics I never thought about such as which filters get me the most likes from my followers. My top filter for the most engagement is Ludwig. Iconosquare also told me almost all of my likes come from people already following me. Less than one percent of my likes come from people not following me, which I do not find surprising because my account used to be private. Above is a picture of the graph showing the time of day my audience is likely to interact with me. The black circles at the top are the hours I typically post an image, the black circles on the right represent my popular posting days. The larger the circle, the more popular the day or time of posting is. I do a great job of not posting between the hours of 1am-9am EST, but I need to start posting more often on Wednesdays at 8pm and Thursdays at 11pm. Before taking the ParsonsxTeenVogue classes, I had not considered the importance of checking my social media account statistics. Now, I will continue watching my audience to see if I can increase the amount of likes and followers on my different accounts. Instagram @madisonstephens Twitter: @maditudestyle

While shopping, I noticed there are four main sizes for shirts that I can fit into. For these particular tops (pictured) the print on the left comfortably fit me, while the shirt on the right by the same brand in the same size did not fit my chest and shoulders. I tried many of the same shirts and was not surprised to discover they all fit differently. In my sewn products class, I had already learned about the 1/2" tolerence allowed when producing the garments. The more expensive the garment is, there is less likely to be much difference between two identical items. I work in retail and see too many women get caught up in the sizes on the label. No one seems to understand each brand has its own way of sizing and producing each garment. I think if there was a set sizing method, less women would get discouraged by sizes while shopping. At the same time, we are more than a label anyways so size should never define anyone.
