I've been fleshing out my TMNT AU and this is what I've come up with so far.

(I am more using these notes to help me keep track of my AU)

I always viewed TMNT as a story about social issues so a lot the characters I kinda moved things around to fit that. Ik many don't much care for that but it's my AU, I can do as I pls

Splinter/Hamato Yoshi

Splinter has the "Hamato Yoshi" origin, where he starts out as a human and is later mutated into a rat. I wanted to give an in universe reason as to why the turtles are so knowledgeable beyond their martial arts so I decided that when Yoshi grew up, he left his clan and became an educator and it is a teacher exchange program that brought him to New York.

I wanted the turtles to have distinct hobbies that benefited their home-life

Leonardo

I kept it tradional, Leo is the leader. Inferiority complex. I wanted Leo to be a master at nothing, his brothers have distinct abilities that they excel at and Leo is still good at those things, Leo has strength, dexterity, intelligence but he is not the best at these skills. I do not think a leader should be the one who is the best but the one willing to make the hard decisions.

His hobby is pottery, I also gave him an interest in poetry and plants and of course, he's still a geek. I'm working on a bootleg version of the justice league to fit into the story.

Raphael

Raph like always is the angry one, he is also the strongest. Raph is the heavy hitter of team but often let himself get clouded by his emotions.

Raph has the most hobbies out of all the brothers, I wanted it to seem like he dabbles in a lot of different things, trying to figure out what sticks to help him deal with his anger issues. The main one is wood working, he's also into painted/drawing, knitting and obviously wrestling.

Donatello

Donnie is obviously the smart one, a character trait that has stayed with him through every iteration. I honestly really liked the characterization of Rise Donnie, his struggle with understanding others emotions, feeling a need to be useful through his tech and so I took a lot of inspiration. I honestly kinda merged 03, Rise and MM Donnie together

Donnie has always been the smart one but I didn't want him to be the sole intellectual that somehow understands all aspects of science so I took from MM and made him only understanding of technology. He'll make gadgets, trip out a cool new ride, maybe do some coding but he is not a know it all. He is very interested in biology but he can't whip up antidotes or anything

Michelangelo

Mikey is the most spiritual of all the brothers. He is carefree, easy going and sees things in a different light that the others cannot understand.

Mikey sews! I draw the turtles in clothes and at one point I wondered "where are they finding clothes large enough to fit over their shells?" And I hit me, Mikey is a little fashionista. I like the idea of a character who is typically a bit air headed having an interest in something that requires a lot of precision.

April O'Neil

April is a teen in this series cause I personally prefer the dynamic of April being like a sister rather than a mom or aunt character. April is actually very well off in this series, her mom is a restate agent and her father works for the police. I have plans for this to add a lot of conflict. I did wanna go with the journalism aspect, April being a character who is very passionate about social issues so that is a career she is striving to go to uni for.

I wanted April to feel somewhat like a normal teen, due to April's higher status I decided to put her into piano, she is also is gymnastics which will give her a bit of a head start when she begins her training with Splinter later down the line and she is into things like makeup and fashion.

Casey Jones

Casey is also a teen. I am Canadian and since Casey is obsessed with hockey I decided to make him a second generation Canadian immigrant to sprinkle in some of my "undying" maple moose beaver patriotism. I didn't go with the comical 80s "imma gonna ram ya head in for j-walking" version, think more 03 personality. Brash and aggressive but loyal.

Obviously Casey is into hockey, I haven't much fleshed out his interests but he certainly still hates the purple dragons.

The main Foot Clan cast for TMNT: Mutant War

(I am still figuring how this art style. I struggle deeply with men and animals, pls bare with me, I understand it looks funky)

Ik my Shredder looks real funky, armor and men are probably my weakest links

I adapted the 2012 series backstory of Shredder. Being friends will Yoshi, the love triangle with Tang Shen, taking Miwa and raising her as his daughter Karai.

Imma just spoil this right here. I plan to make Shinigami a mutant, she's gonna be a bat. I already have the design sketched out, I love it. She's gonna go through it.

I know the 2012 series made Tiger Claw and Alopex siblings, personally I'm not into it. They do kinda have a sibling dynamic in my series but it's more of a trauma bond tbh.

I could not for the life of me figure out how to draw Bebop, bro was a struggle until I came across a cosplay where he looked more humanoid, cause of this I decided that human born mutants are gonna look closer to human than animal born mutants that leans more animalistic.

I'll probably go more into this when I make my Kraang designs.

Currently the idea in my head is the Kraang takes different species from different dimensions to mutate them for whatever reason, still figuring it out. They come in contact with Shredder somehow and while teaming up, The Kraang gives The Shredder mutants to work for him.

For now I'm thinking Tiger Claw and Alopex were taken as cubs and grew close in the Kraang facility and Bepop was a zookeeper and was taken along side a rhinoceros who eventually became Rocksteady.

My Splinter, April and Casey Mutant War designs.

These designs are ment to be at the beginning of the series. I plan to change their designs as Mutant War goes on.

I wanted my April and Jones and to be teens. I've noticed while rewatching the 80s and 03 cartoons, I stopped viewing the turtles as teenagers and could only think of them as young adults. Their still slightly older, April being 17 and Casey being 18 at the start of the series while the turtles are 15.

My favorite version of Splinters backstory is the 2012 version so I took heavy inspiration from that.

I wanted my April to be a young influencer or sorts, kinda social justice warrior vibes.

April comes from a good home and area, loving family, she gets good grades meanwhile Casey has a "not great" home life, struggles in school, got held back a grade. I think this creates some great conflict for the two at the beginning of the series. April thinks Casey doesn't care about anything but himself, that he just wants to goof off and is throwing everything away to just be difficult while Casey thinks April's life is perfect.

I couldn't resist making Casey Canadian. I'm Canadian, bro lowkey reminds me a lot of my older brother, personality wise. He's a hockey man, next to maple syrup that's our M.O

I have been on an art bender. I have over 20 sketches on TMNT redesigns and a story is a cooking in my noggin. I don't usually do fan creations but this has completely taken over.

I've taken inspiration from every ideation of TMNT, from the designs to their personalities. I've even started using the comics for research as well cause I've only watched media before and dear God, Donnie is going through it. They all are but Donnie spacificly.

NGL, wish I got into furry art cause drawing anthropomorphic animals has been a true pain. I went through 3 different designs of each turtle alone cause I just could not get it right, I still don't think I did but I am having fun with this and that's all that matters.

Once I get through the rest of the designs of the main cast (Splinter, April and Casey), maybe I'll drop some lore of "Mutant War". I have a arcs already planned. Obviously Shredder and The Kraang but I'm most excited for my dimensional arc, which will involve Usagi Yojimbo and that cast very heavily.
