FMK vasiliy, ingrid, devrim
❛ marry ingrid. sure, we fight over the smallest things, but what’s a couple that never fights? after two years without ingrid, i wouldn’t trade the petty fights for anything. we’d be happy together. not to be a damper, but i don’t ... have an interest in casual sex, so i’d date devrim before the F happens. kill vasiliy, i suppose, because i’m not sure i’m too familiar with vasiliy. ❜

INTRODUCING THE SECOND MRS. BURLAKOV !
When she meets Vasiliy Konstantinovich on holiday, it feels like love at first sight for the young Rhiannon Ivanovna. Only a fortnight after their first meeting, Vasiliy suddenly proposes marriage and Rhiannon enthusiastically accepts, despite the controversy and gossip surrounding the mysterious disappearance of his previous wife, Adele Han, a year prior. Her new husband’s demeanor changes soon after their arrival to his estate in Moscow, however, and she is not received warmly by the staff of her new home; everyone, including her husband, seems to prefer the other Mrs. Burlakov. Every inch of the grand home is occupied by the presence of Adele: her dresses still hang in the closets, the gardens are filled with her favorite flowers, the staff constantly praise her beauty and kindness, and every available surface is adorned with her monogram of A B. Worst of all is the large portrait of Adele in the hall with eyes that seem to follow Rhiannon’s every move. As her husband’s presence grows colder, the staff’s contempt for her only grows stronger, and each attempt to be the perfect wife and emulate Adele only angers her husband. When the remains of Adele’s body are finally found, Rhiannon must confront the suspicious circumstances surrounding her predecessor’s death and the horrifying truth of what it really means to be MRS. VASILIY BURLAKOV.

solace has always been synonymous with solitude, synonymous with silence, but these connotations have dissipated with time, with growing — even alone, peace is unreachable. the world inside becoming as loud and chaotic as the world outside has turned serenity into a luxury, but just when he’d started to believe luxury was synonymous with impossibility, he’d found it. or, more precisely, he’d broken into its house.
but at least she‘d given him tea and biscuits — and stories. its a strange ( though not unwanted ) irony: when he thinks of warmth, he thinks of ice. adele is serenity. there was a grace about the girl that was almost dreamlike; he didn’t understand it. he wanted to. as he drags his body along the snow covered sidewalks, he offers her a small smile and a soft ❝ hey. ❞standing next to each other, they are a juxtaposition of paradoxes; the petite girl stands tall and carries herself with elegance, the tall boy barely carries himself at all. still, any feelings of envy are outweighed by ADMIRATION. despite the gravity and multitude of her achievements, nothing about adele is intimidating. being around her was easy. her smile exudes softness and patience, as if to say, you can draw hope from this. as if to say, you could grow into this grace if you wanted.
of course, devrim doesn’t let his walls down completely, but he at least stops sinking deeper within himself. adele been most successful at bringing him out of his shell by virtue of the fact that she never tried. sliding his hands into the pockets of a tattered denim jacket, he says, ❝ lake absarraca. it’s right that way — i think? ❞
light peaks past cracks in the pillowy clouds, nothing like the vivid golds and pinks of summer. the sky is baby blue with streaks of yellow, a hopeful yellow, and the sun rises over cheyenne with a quiet whisper of new beginnings. the new beginning bears the beautiful and simple possibility of friendship for adele. life in the survivalist society leaves little chances for many friendships to last, perhaps begin, and the hans fall into the familiar routine they know from childhood: keep to yourselves. a routine broken by the likes of a vibrant and precocious ingrid sergeant comes back after the great loss of such a vibrant soul.
adele is no ingrid. not really, no. pretty and warm? absolutely, adele is a beautiful and warm young woman, but not like ingrid. the kindness and the tranquility devrim finds in adele seems naïve, but it is a way to keep a memory of ingrid as bright and pretty as possible in an ugly world. it is an attempt, perhaps a silly attempt, to make the worst seem better. so, adele embraces the warmth after years as the queen of the ice. ❛ good morning, ❜ the greeting beams with hope and optimism like the sunrise, ❛ i’m excited to spend the day with you. ❜ the smile looks shy, almost as if adele thinks she’s said something very wrong, but the friendly sentiment lingers over them.
lake absarraca means almost nothing to adele, save the memories of central high kids hosting bonfires by the lake through snapchat and instagram. a little hum and a nod sound in reply to the unsure statement, ❛ just south, we’ll know we’re on the right path when we see central high school. ❜
the hem of a skirt brushes against wiry thighs as adele sways. the heaviness of figure skates and the heel to toe sways carry an elegance that speaks of practice, of familiarity, of normalcy that is almost unsettling. adele hums like a lullaby you think you remember from a distant childhood, but you’d rather forget. often, it seems as though adele lives in a world of mysticism and daintiness untouched by the sickness of society. devrim finds the world as a refuge, a shelter, and adele smiles with a warmth that says ‘ please come and rest as long as you need. ’ devrim, it seems, needs to rest in the little world of wonderment and starry eyes with no hesitation. with tea and stories of the olympics spun like the gold medals against the wall, adele feels a quaint warmth to nurture.
outside the house on gramercy drive, the winter wakes and settles in the empty marrow of bones. adele shrugs deeper into a fox fur coat, all four foot nine inches of her standing tall and elegant on the walkway with a look of hazy wonderment. the cold never bothers adele, as the countless students of central high would sing to the tune of ‘ let it go ’ after the wintery hit took the world by ... well, storm. the soft hums pass the time well until they fade into the sound of ice shattering under footsteps; devrim, adele hopes with a glance towards the sidewalks from a safe distance.
