"E-excuse me," Anya stuttered out to the man. "Sorry if you're busy, but would you like a paper? I-it's only a couple cents and I'll be on my way."
❝ if you were sorry for buggin’ me, you wouldn’t ‘ave done it in the first place. ❞
{ russianxroulette: }
Anya took a nervous step back, receding back into her shell at his statement. Part of her wanted to apologize and flee, but he had on a nice suit and she couldn’t help but think he might be rich.
"W-Well… do you need help with anything? I know the streets well, a-and I need the money/”
❝ are you assumin' i don't know where i am? i don't need some lousy street rat's help. ❞
he reached for his pistol, hand lying under his coat just incase he'd have to scare the little twerp away. cheech grunted, chest moving up and down with his heavy sigh.
❝ there are thousands of people in this damn city. go bug someone else, or you'll regret the day you were born. ❞

"It’s my job, ser. I-I need to sell papers so I can eat, and so my sister can eat."
of all the people in manhattan right now, she had to choose him. cheech just wanted to be left alone; he didn't want to deal with anyone else's problems on top of his own.
❝ can't ya go preach to someone else? i already read today's paper, i don't need to again. ❞

"Care for a paper, sir?" Davey asked the man in front of him, holding a copy in his hand.
❝ does it look like i need a damn paper, kid? ❞

the boy puts on his puppy dog eyes, gazing up at the older with a pout. surely kids were allowed. what was so important that kids weren’t allowed? was it one of them meetings grownups have? a crease occurring between both brows. a simple question will fall from his mouth.
❝ why not, old man? ❞
❝ what'd you say? ❞
the man turned around, quickly pacing back towards the kid. cheech leered over the boy, eyes shadowed by his hat. he had to admit, he loved his height. it almost always gave him the upper hand in any tough situation. the puppy dog eyes didn't phase him, they never did. he'd become immune to any kind of look resembling his.
❝ wanna repeat yourself? ❞
a haiku a day (234/365)
he is silent once more, looking down. sort of disheartening, to be told that someone didn’t want to be his pal. didn’t everyone need pals? he chews ton his bottom lip, giving the puppy dog treatment to the older as he said he had to go. he’d met plenty interesting people in his life, but he had taken a liken for this one.
❝ i can come wit’ s’tha.❞
❝ no, you can't you ain't. ❞
he sighed, unable to even give the kid a glare. the man just waved the little boy off, rolling his eyes as he turned to walk down the street. he had no time for any more of his shenanigans, why he even participated in the first place was a mystery to him. cheech wasn't sure if he'd be able to find his so called 'pals' but if he did they were really in for it. no one just scammed cheech out of his rightful earnings.
❝ kids ain't allowed. ❞
{ idk if i ll ever be able to use this gif icon but i have and i love it looo oOOOK }

a shudder. mutt looks back down again, whimpering. the thought of being shot was a scary one. he had heard gunshots before. they echoed and boomed. and the fact that they were so small but they held so much power. they wouldn’t shoot a little kid wouldn’t they? in an attempt to regain his posture, he straights up his slumped shoulders.
❝ sure is, pal. bet yous’ is, too.❞
❝ i ain't your pal. ❞
cheech raised an eyebrow, tilting his head. he'd seen lots of kids around but he'd never talked to one of the little gremlins until now. disregarding his won childhood of course .. he shook away the thought, tossing the cigarette butt to the stone ground.
with a grunt, the man flicked his wrist, taking a look at the time on his watch. they were late .. or he was given the wrong location. he'd wring their necks if they thought they'd gamble without him. they were lucky it was against the rules to slaughter them.
❝ listen, i gotta go. ❞
{ carryabarricade: }
blink. blink. blink. the boy remains silent, mirroring the man’s body language. he follows his gaze, and almost mimicked the way he moved. with a question upon him, he has the nerve to giggle. not a laugh, but a giggle. innocence was still present in his mind, despite growing up in the hard streets, where many children lost their innocence at a young age. however, the child still had his. mutt’s lips purse, a little smirk appears on his face as he jerks his chin up in a haughty way.
❝ why does it matter ? ❞
❝ me pals ain't the nicest bunch either. they'll prolly just shove ya aside, maybe shoot you. ❞
the man chuckled bitterly, biting down so his cigarette wouldn't drop. he couldn't help himself, the kid looked innocent enough to believe anything he heard. it was the way the boy laughed and mimicked him. not like most children were like that anyways .. it was still fun in his sense. kids could sure be annoying though. maybe that's why he enjoyed messing with their pea-brained heads.
❝ you're a stubborn one, ain't you? ❞
