I know everyone likes the whole “hur hur Sora can’t count” joke (and believe me, it is hilarious to an extent) but also like… Sora is super smart? He’s gotta strategize and come up with battle plans on the fly, I wholeheartedly believe he haggles with the moogles all the time, and after all this time exploring the worlds he probably has an incredibly accurate sense of direction. But even with all of those practical skills aside, Donald and Goofy have been with him this whole time, and have proven time and time again that they take their role of caring for this kid seriously. And they spend lots of time in transit on the gummy ship, and no matter how scrappy Sora is he has to take breaks to rest every once in a while, leaving lots of empty time for this high-energy kid to get bored in.

So imagine Donald coming back to the ship with an armful of old school books he managed to scrounge from around Traverse Town and setting Sora down and saying “alright, show me how much you already know.” And Sora, this kid who’s never been good at math and has always fallen behind his class suddenly has two teachers who are willing to spend the time he needs to get it. And yeah, it takes him a while, and he still makes mistakes, but he finally gets it.

Of course, when you spend that much time with someone, they get to see you do the dumbest things. So every once in a while Donald will casually mention that Sora can’t count, and Goofy will chuckle when he remembers that one time that Sora briefly forgot how to spell “eye”, but they’re filled with nothing but pride for this boy who saved the worlds and got his homework done, all at once.

Idk man but Soriku fans don’t dislike Kairi and Sokai because they get in the way of our ship. We don’t like them because Kairi has been done a huge disservice and has had almost no development in all of the games. She has few discernible character traits because she only exists to serve as Sora’s love interest. I’m not just mad about Soriku not happening, because I never expected it to happen. I’m mad that the Destiny Trio was not given the same treatment as the other trios. I’m mad about the shoddy writing of Kairi and Sokai. There is a small part of me that wanted Sokai to be done and done well (it was my first ship ever after all), but instead of showing me how much Sora and Kairi care for each other, they just told me that they do. I can’t root for that. If Square spent half as much time developing Sokai as they did Soriku, I would like the ship. (I mean, I ship Akuroku and Rokushi 🤷‍♀️). But they didn’t. And I’m sorry that Sokai fans have to deal with tags filled with hate, but if you aren’t criticizing the way that the ship has been treated in canon… you’re blindly accepting the heteronormativity and mistreatment of Kairi and I just… frankly can’t feel that bad about it.

(And if you really think that we just ship Soriku because it’s gay…just try to tell me Sokai had more development than Soriku. I dare you 🤷‍♀️)
