Magical Archives - Malleus Draconia

The dorm leader of Diasomnia and the next lord of Briar Valley, his hometown. He is the descendant of fairies and a magician powerful enough to be called one of the world’s top 5. He is a prince, but he enrolled in Night Raven College in order to broaden his views. At school, there are constant rumors about his powerful abilities, so his presence makes it hard for anyone to get close to him, and other students keep a distance from him. For some reason, there are many times when he is not invited to ceremonies or meetings, so his attendance rate is low.

His power is immeasurable, as he can use two types of magic rapidly at the same time, and he can disappear in an instant and teleport. There are even students who think they would be cursed just by having anything to do with him. Even at inter-dorm magift tournaments, it ends up being one-sided matches, and he has led Diasomnia to victory three years in a row.

The activities of the club he created, the “Gargoyle Studies Club,” are unconventional, consisting of observing gargoyles while strolling around. Also, he deeply treasures the small game device “Feed and care for it! What kind of pet will you raise? Gao-Gao Drakon-kun” which Lilia once gave to him as a souvenir from another country.

Expressions Notes

- His ears are pointed.

- His horns are quite big, so if you don’t draw his head smaller than the other characters, his head would look too big

- His bottom lashes are long, but his facial features are fairer and more delicate than Vil’s or Leona’s. (TN: the term used here is shiogao. This article explains it)

- His fangs are visible when he laughs

- He doesn’t get furious often, but when he does get angry, there’s a “Wow, this guy isn’t human!” feel to it

- He doesn’t lose his composure much, but he’s ignorant of the ways of the world, so there are many times when he goes “Oh”

- He sometimes sulks like a child

- His hair basically reaches to his chest in two locks, but it’s fine if they aren’t there depending on the clothes

- He sleeps with his horns facing comparatively backwards. He probably can’t sleep on his back or maybe he uses a special pillow (lol)

- The carapace (of his horns) is located under his bangs where it can’t be seen

Dorm Leader Uniform Notes

- Malleus already has horns, so his hat doesn’t have the horn-shaped parts

- It’s a long jacket, but its fundamental shape is racing jacket-like

- A staff with the motif of a spindle and thorns. My image is that threads of magic power are fed through it and the wheel turns when it’s used (it’s just my impression, I don’t actually wish for it to move in reality!)

- Most difficult to handle, but I wanted him to have a grim and forbidding staff, so here it is

- A length that lightly surpasses 230cm

Magical Archives - Cater Diamond

His creed is to live life enjoyably and carefreely and take it easy. He has excellent communication skills, is easygoing, and dislikes the sweaty “where there’s a will, there’s a way” way of thinking. Because he has a lot of friends and is good at reading the room, there are many times when he act as a mediator. He’s the type to call things cute if he thinks they’re cute, without caring about gender, but that could be due to the considerable influence from his two older sisters, who live life with “cuteness” as a measure.

He is well-versed in using all sorts of social media, and he’s especially obsessed with Magicam. With the conceit of “Just having something to be aware of will enrich our daily lives,” he never fails to check Magicam after class, and is always searching for content that will look good on Magicam. A knowledgeable person who is up to date on all the latest trends, he regularly uses his diamond-patterned smartphone case, which was so popular that similar ones were sold on the market.

His best subject is astrology, and according to him, it “looks occult and is based on statistics.” He is surprisingly athletic and he’s good at flying because of his natural sense of balance. For some reason, he hides the fact that he doesn’t like sweet things.

Magical Archives - Idia Shroud

Ignihyde’s dorm leader and a self-proclaimed introvert who is bad at dealing with extroverts. He has a shy and gloomy personality, dislikes interacting with people, and tends to shut himself inside his dorm room. He especially hates outdoor classes, and muscles are foreign to him. Since he doesn’t think it’s necessary to have face to face classes in the first place, he doesn’t go to the classroom in person and takes classes through a tablet instead. He does the same thing for dorm leader meetings. The total opposite of the King of the Underworld who excels at the art of bargaining with light banter, he can’t even smoothly talk about his research results in class, but when it comes to his favorite online games, he is able to talk quickly and smoothly in the chat.

He is at his happiest when playing games with his online gamer friend “Muscle Crimson.” In addition to games, he also likes manga, and he’s a fan of the three-member female idol group “Gakeppuchi Moiras” or “Gakemo” for short. He belongs to the Board Game Club (BG Club) for short and is able to get his hands on the newest games immediately.

He believes that there is nothing humans can’t make and created Ortho’s body by packing in all the skills he had.

The tips of his hair are half-transparent, and his eyes are always in shadow. He is quite good-looking, but he himself has no awareness of that

Magical Archives - Kalim Al-Asim

The leader of Scarabia Dorm, and the oldest son of the Asim family, one of the world’s wealthiest families. He has a naive and innocent personality, boundlessly bright, and a positive thinker. He is very generous and warmly responds to the worries of others as if they were his own. However, there are also times when he doesn’t listen to others and runs off on his own. He loves holding large parties and entertaining guests with food, music, and dancing, so he doesn’t spare any effort on that part.

He is part of a large family with more than thirty younger siblings and more than a hundred servants. Since he’s the heir, his life has been targeted in many instances, and he has been poisoned many times. Four years ago, he fell into a coma for two weeks, so from then on, Jamil became Kalim’s poison tester, and Kalim basically doesn’t eat anything except what Jamil cooks. Even so, he easily trusts those he meets for the first time and continues to make life hard for Jamil.

He has been taught traditional dance since he was little, and he is good at dancing and playing instruments. He belongs to the light music club, but he can only play Land of Scalding Sands instruments such as the oud, a string instrument, and the goblet drum.

Magical Archives - Sebek Zigvolt

A new student who’s tall and has a loud voice. He is proud of the fact that he was able to enter Night Raven College, where Malleus, who he respects greatly is, as well as being a new student of the great Diasomnia dorm. There are many times when he couldn’t understand Malleus’ thoughts because they are so great, but that is why he looks up to him so much. He has a senior-junior apprentice relationship as well as rivalry with Silver, who he trained with under Lilia. Whenever their opinions clash, Sebek immediately goes on the warpath. Also, he trains his body as much as he can so he can always be Malleus’ sword and shield, but his extreme motivation to be a suitable vassal tends to go nowhere. In particular, his overly pompous behavior astonishes even the students of other dorms. However, he unwaveringly believes that he is right, and since he can’t acknowledge his mistakes, he often causes trouble for those around him. Also, he is so eager to talk about Malleus it’s as though he is talking about himself.

As Malleus’ vassal, he considers equestrianism essential, so he visited the Horseback Riding Club as his first choice for club activities. There, he was overwhelmed by Riddle’s riding skills with his horse, Vorpal. He was so earnest and energetic that he joined the club right away without thinking.

Expressions Notes

- Not as burly as Jack, but he has a pretty solid build. But his facial features are somewhat similar to Azul’s, a face with refinement. He has an old looking face for a first year, but on the inside he’s like a dog, laughing a lot once he gets to know someone better. In front of Malleus, he tries his best to look smart and crisp, like a follower who can do anything, but he is very expressive.

Hairstyle Notes

- His bangs and eyebrows are lightning bolt shaped. He looks like he has an undercut, but if anything, it’s more like he wants swept back hair, but his hair is so energetic that he couldn’t make it happen. It isn’t tapered in the back. 

- (referring to his hair being down) He definitely doesn’t show himself to Malleus in this state. It’s like, “That’s why I can’t forgive Silver for still having unkempt hair after waking up! How disrespectful!”

- He grows his hair in order to sweep it back

Magical Archives - Deuce Spade

A serious student who enrolled in NRC with the strong resolution to “become a fine magician.” He could be called a model student, but even though he desperately works hard at his schoolwork, his marks are not very good.

Before he came to NRC, he lived with his mother and did nothing but skip classes in middle school. He bleached his hair, hung out with bad upperclassmen and spent all his time getting into fights, and attacked cliffs with his magical wheel every day. It was obvious to anyone who saw him that he was a delinquent. However one day, he witnessed his mother crying to his grandmother and questioning how she raised him. He pledged in his heart to become an honor student who would make his mother proud. Since he was in charge of setting up the appliances at home, he is good at tinkering with machines. He is used to the scramble of limited-time sales from helping his mom, so he won’t let the item he is after get away.

With that masculinity and single-minded personality, he is the type who doesn’t approve of hiding and complaining, but fighting fair and square. Even if the other person is an upperclassman of his dorm, he doesn’t take a step back. His athletic ability is good, and he’s currently on the track team. He is praised for his achievements at the national high school track meet, and has been publicly honored for his achievements along with Jack.

Magical Archives - Ortho Shroud

Idia’s “younger brother.” He always moves together with Idia and adores him. In contrast to his gloomy brother, he is cheerful, earnest, and has a strong sense of curiosity. By changing his attachments, he can convert his body to adapt to different situations. For his current body types, there is the “Archetype Gear,” his all-purpose type platform body; “Athletic Gear,” the independent wheeled-type attachment; “Precision Gear,” the attachment for detailed work; the “Burst Gear,” the attachment for outputting high amounts of magical energy, and more. His hair is made to be the same type as the King of the Dead’s and Idia’s. The gas composition can be adjusted with a control program, and it can change into any color.

The data of 100,000 books are inputted into him, and he is fully equipped with many functions, such as the most cutting-edge medical tools and fiber scopes, as well as arms for precise work. He can load up magical energy and fire powerful beams, hack into the school security system and access the surveillance cameras.

He tries to take his brother, who mostly shuts himself inside his room, outside and tries to join events together with him, but he’s never had much luck with that.

Archetype Gear Notes

- Has flame on left chest

- There is a gap between the belt and the flight equipment at his waist

- His flight equipment at his waist can move up and down as well as left and right

- The parts at his back have an axis in the center, and they operate with that in the center

Athletic Gear Notes

- Pretty much the same as the Archetype Gear, but there are less lines at the chest and torso. There are holes in his legs and arms for weight reduction.

- The sun visor adheres to his face part. It’s also possible to raise it up to his forehead in a sunglass shape

- His feet have springs attached. Unlike the other attachments, they touch the ground.

- His calves are made of transparent parts. There are springs built into them

Precision Gear Notes

- In the back there’s an air vent for getting rid of heat

- (referring to the tail-like attachment at the back) A medical camera. It also has a light. It extends and retracts

Burst Gear Notes

- The face cover is shiny, like a helmet. Hides his face up to the tip of his nose. There are goggles under the cover. His mouth is visible

- The base body has a different coloring than his normal body (white)

- The coating is almost exactly the same color and pattern as the ceremonial robes.

- Normally, there is a blue flame on his left chest

- The underside lights up

- The light coming from his soles is purple

- (referring to the halo looking thing behind his head) Made of a glass-like material, see-through

Ignihyde Gear Notes

- Similar to Idia’s jacket, it has triangle-shaped flat plates sticking together in a row. Material has an ename-like feeling

- (referring to the sleeves) The triangles are big enough for six of them to go from the top line of his shoulder to the under line of his armpit

- Base body has a different coloring than his normal body (white)

- (referring to the wires hanging down from his hips) USB-C shape

- the things jutting out from his belt (?) are skull-shaped

- The light blue parts can all light up

- The ring around his left thigh and the ring around his neck are bands of light that can light up

- Like his brother Idia, his hair is made of flames. Fundamentally, he doesn’t show his entire face (either the upper or lower part is covered). When he talks, the ring with microphone equipment sticking to his cheeks blinks.

- He smiles a lot, unlike his brother

- For the mask version, only his eyes are expressive, so it might be a bit difficult to see that he’s making a mean face or something like that, so if possible, please make motions like having his shoulders go up and down with a “hee-hee” feel, etc.

Magical Archives - Leona Kingscholar

The dorm leader of Savanaclaw and the second prince of his homeland, Afterglow Savanna. He's strong, clever, and shrewd, and he possess high magic power. However, he takes an arrogant attitude towards everyone and hates to make an effort, always languid and listless. He has the view that “almost all of life is decided at birth, so you don’t gain anything in taking it seriously.”

With his high leadership skills, he serves as the captain of the magical shift club. He finds fun in beating his opponents with ingenuity and plays an active role while being called the Genius Playmaker. However, in the inter-dorm competitions, he has been defeated by Diasomnia in the first match two years in a row.

For the work of his dormmates, he has the principle of giving rewards accordingly. This comes from how the King of Beasts didn’t discriminate against herbivores no matter how small they are, and shared prey equally with even the hated hyenas. Also, like the King of Beasts, he has a scar on his left eye. It was said that the King of Beasts’s scar was a valiant scar gotten from protecting his pack, but even when someone asks Leona how he got his scar, he only says, “I forgot.”

The greenhouse, which was at just the right temperature to make him feel sleepy, is his turf, and he uses it as a place for afternoon naps.

Magical Archives - Ruggie Bucchi

The real number two of Savanaclaw dorm. Because he was raised in a poor environment, he is very greedy in regards to food. He believes that even if you’re penniless, as long as you’re alive, you can manage somehow. He can’t resist things that have monetary value like gold and gemstones, and he loves alchemy class. However, he gets too greedy, so he often fails at alchemy experiments. He is fixated on earning money, and even in the middle of classes, he does things like selling mandrakes to the ghosts of Ramshackle Dorm on the side, living shrewdly. If it’s for his goal, he would use any means necessary with his cleverness and light fingers. Even if he’s called a coward, he takes it as the finest compliment.

At the dorm, he volunteered to be Leona’s attendant, not just taking care of general chores like cleaning, laundry, and meals, but even preparing nighttime snacks. Leona’s room has his belongings, such as gemstones, lying all over the place, but for some reason Ruggie never steals them. Also, since his uniforms are secondhand from Leona, they are on the large size, but he doesn’t care as long as they can be worn.

Even now there are many poor households in his hometown, and on every long vacation, he brings back food and give it to the neighborhood children to eat.

Magical Archives - Lilia Vanrouge

The vice dorm leader of Diasomnia and Malleus’ chaperone. He used to be a royal guard who served the lord of the Valley of Thorns. He calls himself a “mysterious beautiful boy,” and he certainly does look young. He himself also bragged that “I have lived for many years,” “I’ve been looking after Malleus since he still had an eggshell on his head,” “I mostly remember the history of the last 500 years because I’ve actually seen it,” and “I know the great-great-grandfather of Sam from the school store,” so no one can tell what is true and what is false. According to Malleus, apparently the textbooks show the appearance of Lilia in the past.

He cooks, but he is catastrophically bad at it. He decorates cakes with cream and candles before he even bakes them, he kneads two eggs into the dough along with the shells, and generally ignores the recipe and goes his own way. In addition, at a recruitment party for the light music club, he showed off an extreme performance, shouting with a gravelly voice and smashing his guitar, and then diving into the audience, scaring the new students.

- His bangs on the left side are above his eyebrow. His two sidelocks are in a hime-cut style

- His bangs are cut diagonally, and almost covers his right eye

- His hair is dyed pink on the underside. His actual hair color is black. His bangs only have a streak and aren’t dyed on the underside, but other than that, the underside of his bob from his sidelocks to the back is all pink. He changes the color based on his mood, so he might change colors once in a while.

- His expressions have a calm and composed feel to it rather than cute. He opens his mouth wider than Riddle, and makes indecent expressions as well. He casually picks his nose.

- He doesn’t get angry too much. He’s pretty composed even when he’s huffy and indignant. He gets angry for very trivial things. For example, eating ice cream he set aside for himself...

Magical Archives - Trey Clover

The vice dorm leader of Heartslabyul. Perhaps because he has a younger brother and sister,  he is an older brother-like, or parent-like, existence who his dorm members can rely on. His excellence as a vice dorm leader sometimes even comes up in discussion during dorm leader meetings, and there are many times when he has to patch things up after Riddle due to him being overly strict.

His family runs a cake shop, and he has been helping out by going out to buy ingredients since he was young. His habit of stocking up on ingredients when there is a bargain sale comes from that. Also, he has been helping out with making cakes since he was little, so he makes use of those skills and is currently in charge of making cakes for “Unbirthday Parties.” He is in the Science Club and develops new dishes everyday. Since his parents’ pet theory is “Stamina is needed to make sweets,” he used to play soccer a lot in the past. Although he isn’t particularly bad at sports now, he doesn’t like doing them very much, but he acts as the main player of Heartslabyul in Magical Shift competitions.

Night Raven College Uniforms - General

General characteristics and main situations to wear the five uniforms

School uniform: The basic uniform worn within the school. A three-piece with jacket, vest, and pants, it is worn for classroom lectures such as magical history class. This uniform is also worn on breaks like Winter Holiday and opportunities to go outside the school

Gym uniform: The uniform worn for classes where you exercise, such as flying class and physical education. All-in-one (jumpsuit) style

Lab coat: Worn for alchemy and potions class. A set with a simple white coat and safety goggles

Ceremonial uniform: A formal and chic ceremonial wear. It is worn for different situations like entrance ceremonies, magical shift friendly games, representing the school in public places. It is custom to wear the hood during the ceremony

Dorm uniform: An outfit unique to each dorm, and each dorm has a different design. It is worn when one is in the dorm, dorm events, inter-dorm magical shift tournaments, etc. Octavinelle students also wear it as a Mostro Lounge uniform

Magical Archives - Epel Felmier

A beautiful boy with an ephemeral charm. He doesn’t talk very much and has a mysterious impression, keeping a little distance from the people around him. He doesn’t talk much about his hometown that sends him apples, but he would sometimes unintentionally talk in dialect. His parents can’t use magic, but his great-grandmother and grandmother are witches. Since there are not many magicians around him, school life feels quite fresh to him. Also, he knows almost nothing about table manners.

Opposite to his looks, his competitive spirit is strong, and he even faces off against upperclassmen without faltering. His ideal appearance is very different from reality, and he actually has a strong longing towards being wild and manly. Specifically, he wants to be muscular like Vargas, be taller, and have a deeper and huskier voice, but he doesn’t seem to be gaining much muscle no matter how much he trains. Also, he actually wanted to join Savanaclaw instead of Pomefiore, so he sometimes thinks about transferring dorms.

He has a talent for artfully crafting with apple skin, or carving apples so to speak, and the results are on the level of fine art. In addition to rabbits from traditional motifs, he can carve apple skins into roses, birds, castles, etc.

Introduction

Stoic and completely devoted to improving his own strength, he does not spare any effort. He takes on sports and tests head to head, and wants to win any contest with his own power. He doesn’t like leisurely passing time without a goal and hates making friends with other people, but he is hard-headed and strict about hierarchies. Because he is so straightforward and direct, he’s been thought of as “inflexible” and “a pain” by those around him.

Three years ago, he was moved at seeing Leona’s Magical Shift play, and dreamed of seriously being in a match with him. And witnessing that true strength right before his eyes once again, he is certain that his aspiration was not wrong. Leona is a goal he wants to surpass one day, as well as an opponent he wants to seriously fight.

He once helped out at Mostro Lounge for a week and surprisingly displayed a natural skill at working in the dining area. He also has the hobby of cultivating cacti and spends his holidays to revitalize the plants that aren’t growing well, showing a hardworking and gentle side to him.

Introduction

The dorm head of Pomefiore and a charismatic beauty who is well known throughout Twisted Wonderland. A world-class supermodel, he is strict on himself and other people as well as stoic. Even in the eyes of other Pomefiore students, his beauty is like that of a painting. He himself believes he is the most beautiful and does not spare any effort when it comes to beauty. He never fails to work out and do stretches, takes care to put on sunscreen and hydrate, and is even fixated on selecting ingredients for his smoothies based on his physical condition on that day.

He is also a famous Magicamer who boasts a following of over 5 million people, and is known as an influencer whose advertising effect is extremely impactful. Since the people of Twisted Wonderland immediately buy the products Vil posts about on Magicam to copy him, the products become popular right away.

In his hometown in the Land of Pyroxene, there are many who are prejudiced against Vil just for being an entertainer. Jack, who came from the same town, lived in his neighborhood, apparently didn’t care about that and talked to him every time he sees him.

Introduction

Despite being a human, he has the personal history of being raised by Malleus and Lilia in the Valley of Thorns, and he calls Lilia Father. He has an unsophisticated personality and is always cool and collected. Ever since he was little, he would suddenly fall asleep, and can’t fight against his sleepiness no matter what. Even if he’s in the middle of a test or walking or practicing swordplay or mixing potions, he falls asleep. Since even doctors have given up on him, he believes it’s his own laziness that’s causing his sleepiness.

He’s aiming to be a knight like Lilia. For that reason, he wants to improve his sleepy constitution. Usually he has the duty to guard Malleus, the same as Sebek, but he opposes Sebek sticking together with Malleus to the point of overprotection, and they frequently argue.

Even the pursuer of beauty Vil states that his refreshing and handsome features are “not bad”, and he even requested him to appear in his self-produced movie. Also, although he isn’t particularly proficient in animal languages or brainwashing magic, animals take to him for some reason. The reason is unknown, but it might have to do with his constitution.

Magical Archives - Ace Trappola

Introduction

A bright personality, a quick wit, and a fast learner. He has a sharp head that’s able to copy something after seeing it several times for most things. The type to say his own opinions outright without hesitation, he sometimes has a mean side to him. He has a rival relationship with fellow first-year Deuce. 

Ace has an older brother seven years older than him who graduated from Night Raven College, and he was also an alumnus of Heartslabyul. For that reason, Ace didn’t find it surprising he was sorted into Heartslabyul at the entrance ceremony. Furthermore, his brother served as the vanguard of the march of the card soldiers at the magical shift tournament’s opening ceremony. Ace copied his brother’s specialty card magic tricks by watching him, and mastered all sorts of tricks. His fingers are naturally dexterous, and his skills are at such a high level that even Riddle and Cater are astonished. Ace is also crafty and cheats all the time in card games, but his tricks are almost impossible for anyone to see through.

He has good reflexes and high physical ability. He has excellent spatial awareness in particular and is the self-proclaimed “promising rookie” in the basketball club. In fact, he can almost always score without looking with just a glance at the hoop, and he can anticipate his opponent’s cut-ins.
