This Little Light
Darkness, he came to me quiet, And he put his lips close to my ear. He said, "Come with me child, you are lonely, And I know that it's lonely you fear." But I said, "Leave me, Darkness, this moment. For it is not I who should fear. In my right hand, I carry a candle, That there may be no darkness here." Then Darkness, he spoke to me softly. From beyond the candlelight, said, "If you put out the light, I will make you The 'you' that you see in your head." But I said, "Darkness, you won't win this. I'll stand here with candle alight. As long as the wick burns, you'll fear me, And retreat farther into the night. Again, Darkness spoke from the shadows He sang like a sweet violin, "Remember the times you were happy, I'll give you those good times again." Then I shouted, "Darkness, I rebuke you!" And I called him by all of his names. "You could offer me all the world's riches, And I still won't take part in your games." Now Darkness became very angry. In a low, monstrous growl he said, "So you won't fear me till I kill you, Won't bow to me till you are dead?" "Do what you want to me, Darkness. I've told you that I'm not afraid. My feet will be planted, unmoving. Neither I nor this candle will fade." He snapped his jaws shut in an instant, And I fell to his black, lightless stomach, But still, the light shone in the darkness, And Darkness could not overcome it.
Bliss
Slowly but surely, My mind’s going sour. It gets worse by the moment, The minute, the hour.
The world, rushing, pressing And every next day Throwing sharp stones to kill me Or tear flesh away.
The earth on my back, It’s hands ‘round my throat While I struggle in water To just stay afloat.
I’m so close to drowning. I’m so nearly there That nothing’s important. I just cannot care.
The world will be evil. And people will die, So why should I bother? What reason to try?
Yes, these are dangerous thoughts, I’m aware. It’s important to try. It’s important to care.
But the stress, the disquiet, They will mangle my spirit Till real pain strikes hard And I hardly feel it.
And I’ll wonder, There in the cold, dark abyss If, at last, I’ve found peace, Or just ignorant bliss.

Writers end up writing about their obsessions. Things that haunt them; things they can’t forget; stories they carry in their bodies waiting to be released.

Red Sky
I could watch the stars Till they all burn down, Till they fall like rain, Till they strike the ground. I could watch the clouds Till they turn dark grey, Till their lightning strikes As bright as day. I could watch the night Till the moon is shade, And the stars rain down From the storm I made.

Hope all in the USA are looking forward to the eclipse today, eerie but stunning darkness. Such an unmissable event.
