He is more than ready to actually fight again- of course he had been sparring with Gideon for a while since his return, & had stayed back when their own crew boarded another ship to take care of enemies that boarded his ship, so he couldn’t be considered entirely unprepared. But it had been so long since he crossed the unforgiving valley of sea & his boots touched a foreign deck, ready to dodge or strike someone else. Another thing that contributed to his swordsman skills being rusty was that sparring with Gideon didn’t adequately represent a real fight. He knew what the other was more than capable of from the day he was rescued, & he knew Gideon was holding back

Gideon feared little to nothing when it came to battle. Sure, magic was on his side, but did he use it? Generally not until necessary. His sword skills were quite impressive due to his extensive lessons back in England, but there were often binds he couldn’t get out of. His family - his crew - they were always there for him just as he for them. Your crew was FAMILY - they were the people you spent countless days, months, years with. So magic was often used in a way to rescue his loved ones, and in turn they respected and lived in harmony upon their grand vessel. Sure there were quarrels - but no BLOOD yet.
Thank goodness, he would think to himself, before turning to face his co-captian as he spoke. Eyes would meet - his own heart pittered a little faster - before he averted them to begin straightening up his appearance. His amulet would be carefully hidden out of sight, out of reach. Only Zachary knew where it was kept, and that was neither comforting nor concerning to Gideon. They had been through quite a lot - so the former noble held quite a bit of TRUST in the other magician.
Retracting the telescope into a stub and slipping it into his jacket, Gideon would hum in response. He was always the thinker, the strategist, the PLANNER. Of course with confrontations like this, they had time to actually plan it out. Sometimes it was sheer whim and instinct. After a moment, Gideon would turn around to face Zachary, a slow grin pressing against his features. His voice would pour from his lips in a thick accent, like syrup drizzling onto his words. He found the flag to be ironic, maybe that’s why his own English undertone seemed to ring out louder for him.

❛ yeah i know, but the last time we went against trained men it was too close for comfort. i almost lost you once to marriage- i refuse to lose you again to soldiers. & you know... was it not captain kidd who was hung last year ?? he started out like us gideon- ❜
but now isn’t the time for heartfelt confessions of fear- a rare occurrence for zachary anyways- but instead the time for war. he shakes his head- visibly getting rid of any vulnerability- & straightens his pistol holster on one hip & his cutlass holder on the other. he can’t be too careful- if something happens to his throat his magic will be rendered obsolete.
he smirks while hastily moving towards the door leading to the deck, enjoying the sound of his footsteps on hollow wood, & is delighted to hear that their crew already gathering. he peers out the window to see the flag held high, rope cutting axes in their hands, & pistols fully loaded as any doubt he had about losing flew away.
their adoptive family is waiting for orders, but before he opens the door he turns to gideon to steal a quick kiss. he’d stay longer, but time is limited & in this case precious. the longer he waits to approach their men, the more impatient they grow & he knows that. with all the confidence of a famous pirate, which he is, he bursts through the door, grinning widely. now is the time for captain zachary zatara, co-king of the seas to take over.
he quickly looks to gideon, & his next words are spoken softly & with all the confidence in the world. zachary knows if anyone can help him lead these men it would be him.
❛ let’s give these imposters of brave men nightmares, yeah ?? well, if they lived to see another night, that is. the only spoiled englishman i will ever put up with is you, love. ❜
with that he turns to the men again, the very appearance of gideon & zachary causing an excited uproar. now is gideon’s time to lay out the skeleton of their battle plan, & now is zachary’s time to stand there, look handsome, & chime in when necessary

there weren’t many men or women that were oblivious to the names of gideon northwest & zachary zatara. perhaps a pirate’s greatest weapon was his reputation & they certainly possessed one that struck fear into even the most highly regarded captains. even as while lacking the average experience of a usual pirates, they had certain qualities not owned by most other captains- magic & manners. certain ships upon seeing only their blood red flag immediately surrendered- for they knew even if they were handy at firing pistols or swinging around cutlasses, magic was something to fear.
sure, they had trouble from time to time, but their ship was run like any other machine with fantastic order. their men- & the few women they had on deck- respected them & their crew was almost like a family. even in all their years of gaining treasure & adventure they hadn’t even gone through one mutiny, which was remarkable considering they were younger than a quarter of their crew. but the most notable thing was very few ships had two captains, but given that they were both too stubborn to have one in charge of the other gideon & zachary managed to work it all out.
but now, as they spot another ship with nothing other than a british flag, zachary decides it’s best to pause their brief period of relaxing in their shared quarters in order to strategize. he closes the book on ancient magicians he was reading & sits up, grabbing his hat & putting it back on. he has to appear collected & always approaches every battle as if the men would act like vicious dogs. his italian origins are never as apparent than when he speaks, but it is something he flaunts. of course being from one of the richest italian families he is well-educated in the english language & it never hinders too much on his communications. but as he speaks this time it’s the concern of possibly losing the person he loves the most to soldiers who were actually prepared.

reasons why zachary zatara needs to be loved
he was part of an underground ring where super teens had to fight/ kill others & were drugged & brainwashed & it was horrible
he’s been to hell & back. literally. twice.
he had a girlfriend who got pregnant with twins, but then she died & he feels guilty a lot
he was then offered the chance to have her come back to life and have the kids he always wanted, but had to give up the life he wants to save the souls of his two other friends + him
u don’t understand, his girlfriend always called him ‘magic boy’ & he loved it & there’s this emotional moment & i cry every time
he had to fucking see how his dead children would’ve been and give up that life. he had to basically kill them.
his best friend, knew he was being held captive, yet kept moping about what he had been through as opposed to helping zachary. meanwhile, while fighting, zach would say things like ‘this is for what you did to kid devil!’ but his friend never saved him.
he stuffs all of his feelings, has 4 friends, and tries to drown his emotions in sarcasm
most demons literally refer to him as ‘lonely boy.’ lo NE LY B O Y Y

despite that he still regularly puts his life on the line to save her
on that note, they also broke contact for a while & he was the one who reached out to her first

My way of showing my friendship is by being an ass, but in a loving and joking way.
❛ me? afraid to lose? to you? don’t count on it. in fact, if anyone should be afraid to lose, it should be y o u. ❜ there was a hint of a smile that curled across her lips, eyes darting towards the pillows in the chances of GRABBING ONE in case he started without warning. ( she knows her baby cousin well. a little too well. he won’t let her start another sentence before throwing a pillow directly into her face. ) despite her refusal at starting a pillow fight, that’s not to say she doesn’t have a thrill for one. or that she’s un-happy for having him here.
zatanna was more then happy to have zachary here. he might drive her insane and quite honestly, the next time he goes off at her for being richer, she might just sock him in the face —- but he was her family. and she LOVED him dearly, with every bit of her body and soul. blue orbs narrow at him and she lunges for the pillow she had been eyeing, preparing herself for the assault that was about to come.

without much warning, he grabbed the pillow nearest him & threw it clear at his cousin’s head. he laughed & tried to retrieve the deadly projectile, but zatanna took it as a great opportunity to hit him instead. zachary decided that she definitely meant business & was able to escape after putting forth his best effort. while still getting assaulted by zee throwing constant pillows at him, he ran up the grand staircase to the guest bedroom, throwing open the closet door where he knew the extra pillows were kept.
after hearing her run up the stairs, zahary hastily gathered the pillows into a pile, one by one throwing them at her as if he were a pillow-firing automatic assault rifle. but- after a hardfought battle on his end, eventually zatanna gathered the pillows he had mostly missed throwing at her, & hit him dead-on with every single one. he really didn’t stand much of a chance as he collapsed into a laughing mess on the bedroom floor, letting go of the last pillow in defeat.

but he said that knowing with every fiber of his being that perhaps the only thing that time hadn’t touched was who always won at pillow fights.
im NOT saying you can’t be anything you want to be. but the whole “ superhero ” thing is much more than just wearing a cape and getting famous. what is it with this “ american idol ” generation ? [ read the full interview ]
& exit stage right okay a few fun facts !! next week is tech week for a show we are in no way prepared for & so i’ll probably end up staying there until around 9:00pm est monday-friday of next week & not be on here very much !! we also have several performances throughout the weekend, so no promises on being on then too !! on another note, i have strep throat & will not be attending school tomorrow so i expect to get a lot of stuff done !! soooo basically a hiatus from april 11th to april 17th !!

zachary had definitely gotten back to the large crowds he once bowed for & no longer had to rent out his own venues to avoid sharing ticket prices. but that still didn’t mean he was satisfied with the level of attention the public gave him. he’d be lying if he stated he had never looked up zatanna’s net worth- & it made his seem as if he were only some local celebrity on the four ‘o clock news. besides... he does actually enjoy working with her on shows, & she truly is a great magician. he slides to the edge of his seat, looking up to her much in the way an excited puppy would look at their owner. the younger gives his best smile, positioning green eyes carefully upon her blue ones in an effort to gain sympathy from zatanna.
