You may see some insects here and there but there’s only one frog in this illustration. The Paedophryne amauensis is recognized as the smallest frog and probably the smallest vertebrate in the world. Found in Papua New Guinea, it is so difficult to detect since it spends most of its time camouflaged in the forest floor. It does not go through the tadpole stage in its lifetime and are born as “hoppers”. These froggies can jump 30 times its length! Have you found it?

ERIN RILEY’S TABOO TAPESTRY

Philadelphia based fiber artist Erin M. Riley is tackling taboo issues with her loom. She’s capturing the issues of today’s generation with very old school traditional form of storytelling. Her threads weave together depictions of female sexuality, drug use, birth control, car crashes, selfies, among others. The results of which are breathtaking in a very perverse way - most of the images will make you feel as if you’re sneaking a peek at private photos on someones phone, the element of being privy to what’s going on behind the scene but not being talked about - and at second glance you can’t help but stare in awe at the painstaking efforts that go into her work. 

Erin’s work will be showing at Philadelphia based Paradigm Gallery + Studio from August 30th - October 12th, 2013. Hope you can make it out, these tapestries are sure to stir up a dialogue.

Art Project #1

We had to remake a famous artwork, so I chose the cabaret poster Le Chat Noir by Théophile Steinlen for the theatre café of Rodolphe Salis. It’s my favourite. 

I know there is some text missing, but I didn’t have enough time. Also, sorry for taking such a bad picture. It was made at school, because it has to be filed for my final grade next year. I got an 8.5/10 for this one.

Art Project #2

For this project, we had to make something inspired by music. I chose to make a painting of a scene from The Great Gatsby (2013) with the song Love Is Blindness by Jack White (originally by U2). 

It hasn’t been graded yet, but I don’t think my grade is going to be that high. This painting just isn’t right in some way, the perspective is wrong and I really had to rush with the background, because I started way too late with this project. I think I could have done this way better than I did, but it is alright I guess. 

By the way, I loved to ink the car! The details of the Duesenberg model J are just beautiful.
