"You misunderstand. The beings within live, bright with glow, but the structure itself is…cold." He crouched and pressed his palms against the earth below. "This. What you do. There is glow here. Even if nothing grows."
Warlock wasn’t sure how to explain, especially without letting on that he knew of another world so different from this one. Nothing grew there. The ground had been stripped away for millennia, resources drained until nothing remained. They devoured their own world whole.
"It has meaning," he added more quietly.
She softened, surprisingly soothed by his words. "It would grow if the fighting stopped," she breathed out. Volcanic soil was among the most fertile and if they would just stop fighting for a full season, they could grow so much.
It was why humans stayed in volcanic areas despite the risks. Vegetation grew best on that kind of soil.
"Thank you," she said, reaching a hand to touch his shoulder. "Vita... Vita inveniet viam, aut faciet. Life finds away, or makes it. You'll see."
